Hey people. After taking a personal evaluation I have seen my behavioral habits change drastically. Why? I have linked the reason to my music listening preferences. Nowadays I listen to a lot of classical symphonies and orchestrated pieces. While listening to this, I find myself evaluating art with a much more critical eye. I used to not even care about art in any form. The music I currently listen to has changed the way I evaluate things around me.

Has it changed you at all?

The mind of the host will desperately try to create memories where none exist. Simple right?

Yes, yes it has.

Music is about 1/4 of my life. And its the side of my life that affects my personality.

Since I listen to almost everything in Electronica (including dubstep) im usually in a sort of evil/good mood depending on the song.

If its a real downright dirty song, im in the mood for some coke.

If its a soft yet harsh song, im in the mood for serious roleplaying.

If its by Katy Perry, im done.

If its a soft then super dirty song, im in the mood for continuing my all of my oc's lives.

If its a soft song, then im listening to Blackmill.

Yup.

Changes my personallity alright.

Actually I might be going a bit insane from all of this. Im starting to really like both blood and ink right now. I remember my life being a little scarred by chopping off Pheasant's necks one day. After listening to a bunch of dirty dub, now it feels like that day was kinda fun.

Ink I just love from the black/purple color, as you can see here.

And from thinking of it, this is actually the pic that got me into that stuff.

I've been listening to all sorts of music but I've been listening to orchestral and epic music the most. This sort of music has made me a more clear thinker and has put me in touch with my more mature side over time. Music helped me discover my poetic side a side I would of overlooked normally.

Also, if it wasn't for music I would of lost my mind and be in an asylum by now. So yes, music can effect a person.

Music will have a huge impact on emotion, which is probably the biggest reason as to why they put music in movies, TV shows, and video games.

As far as it actually affecting behavior and personality, it's entirely possible that it will and I have read several times in actually credible and legitimate sources that it will.

Listening to music helps me concentrate on homework. This is because having sounds in my ears take away some of the boredom that comes from homework. So, yes, music does affect my behavior. However I never get emotional from any kind of music.

I found out the song that made me lose my sanity a while back.

Its a very good piece of dubstep even though there's more background then treble. Reccomended for bassheads.

Actually brb while I post this into the music thingy thread.

Yup. Majority of the time, music puts me in a good mood. Which is nice. However, bad music makes me grumpy. Like heavy metal and such.

yes music changes how i act and how my personality is that day. i am always listing to music. so the type im listing to has a huge effect on what im doing at the moment. i listen to so much music because i hate silence and with music it help to keep just a little background noise in my life so i can work or do whatever it is im doing at the moment. my brain also has a tendency to wander a lot ^_^ so music also helps keep that in check.

Of course. Music can help you relax, it can help you concentrate and get stuff done, it can get you pumped. He'll, half the reason I listen to music is to change the mood I'm currently in.

I've never really notice my personality changing, but my behavior inside changes. If I listen to music with more of a soothing vibe, I tend to relax and stay at ease. Usually I start to get in a roleplay type of mood. However I've noticed the screamo has never changed my behavior. I tend to just listen to it without complications. I also like soft house music, especially ones with little words and more music. It makes me feel revived.

I find I put on different types of music depending on what I am doing. When I am doing math homework I put on drum & bass. When I am painting or drawing I put on ambient, chillout, or classical orchestra. When I am waiting for the bus I listen to a singer/songwriter I can sing along to. When I'm home alone on a rainy day crocheting or something I put on really sad music. When I am doing dishes or cleaning the bathroom I put on hiphop or punk rock. When I am doing something that requires heavy concentration (for me this is reading) I turn off music all together.

I find when I put something on that doesn't fit what I am doing (like if I am cooking and my boyfriend puts on metal) it annoys and bothers me. I am uncomfortable. I usually feel a certain way though beforehand. And people say music can change your mood, which I agree with to an extent, but I don't think the music is the only thing affecting you there, its much more minor.

When I come home from the bar angry, I listen to something dark like Kittie. When I come home from the bar sad, I listen to something emotional like the Avett Brothers. When I come home from the bar horny I listen to something funky like Shpongle. When I come home from the bar really happy, I listen to something mainstream & upbeat like Pink. But in each of these situations I am still coming home from the bar, my mood (that is already set) is how I choose my music. The music itself isn't really affecting anything.

But I guess this is one of those which came first scenarios, the chicken or the egg? Isn't it?

Yes I believe music deeply affects me. Might listen to Rock or Metal to get that energy boost I need to get though the day, while I'll listen to progressive techno music to relax, and hip-hop, rap, pop, for when I feel the need to party!

I'm not sure. I often find myself listening to a lot of heavy/death/speed/viking metal and a bit of aggressive rap (Tyler The Creator, Odd Future) but I'm usually a very calm and nice individual. Then again, I'm usually crazy, but not really aggressive. So I really don't know.

i listen to new and different music all the time, i honestly don't think its one of the things that has a permanent affect on my personality, although i am still a little shaken after the Rodger Waters concert i went to!

Not all of the time does it effect my behavior

Sometimes it does but sometimes it doesn't

I guess it all just depends on my mood and what I'm listening to

When I'm sad and I listen to a more upbeat song

It seems to have no effect on me

While as when I listen to a more sadder song

When I'm happy

It makes me just feel like doing nothing at all

I just wanna pace around and not talk to anybody

Well it depends, sometimes it does sometimes it doesn't.

Alot of the time it'll make me more hyped up, or even calm sometimes, and sometimes when I'm sad it can make me happy. And then sometimes it'll just motivate me.

It doesn't really effect my personality in any noticeable ways though.

I like to listen to movie soundtracks when I'm on long distance drives.

I can no longer do that.

Soundtracks like James Bond make me speed! Varrroooom!

what is sad is audio books do the same thing. During the exciting parts I get a lead foot.

Sometimes when I listen to Polka, i feel like Weird Al.

On a more serious note, music doesn't affect my personality.  Its more of just a pass-time that i enjoy singing or dancing too as random intervals.  Its a great stress reliever.

  • 10 months later...

Very much so, I could be very sad.. play a happy song! and hot damn! I'm feeling like a million bits! or play a sad song.. and it well make me feel like dirt.

Music speaks to me, in so many ways. Maybe more then I think it dose.
