Lo, that was the premiere. What exactly have they done with her afterwards?

Need I remind you of this little gem:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2r134EZXI6c&feature=youtu.be&t=5m07s

Need I remind you that Twilight is still uncomfortable being looked upon as royalty? It would make sense that she wouldn't be willing to use her authority unless a situation is serious enough to require her to do so.

She's humble enough that she'd go out of her way to avoid being treated like royalty, of course the good people of Equestria aren't gonna notice or even care that she's an Alicorn, she doesn't want them too.

It also explains why she hasn't worn any of her royal attire since the Season 4 premiere, Twilight's not the type to want to draw attention to herself and wouldn't see any point in doing so needlessly (unlike Trixie).  Twilight's always been the sort of pony that wants to be treated like anypony else and she likely always will be.

Heck, Twilight likely took advantage of the fact she was only recently crowned to immediately and deliberately downplay her status to assure it doesn't change the way ponies think of her or act around her.

Why don't we ever see humans in Equestria?

Yeah but imo that's all a bit of an issue. because overall, what does that mean? That she's no different really than before? Why make such a supposedly drastic change just to essentially change nothing? It's sort of like how I think people had a problem with Keep Calm and Flutter On because suddenly, Discord is a good guy! But then he never shows up. So what's the point of it?

What I'm essentially saying is MOAR DISCORD!!!

Eh, Twilight used to be the best unicorn, but now she's just worst alicorn.

You didn't get my point, did you? If you're going to go through so much trouble to make a HUGE character change, then take advantage of it! So far, aside from the premiere, Twilight has not done anything that needs her to be a princess.

Also, you didn't explain that little clip with the cabbie.

Also, you didn't explain that little clip with the cabbie.

You're not taking into account that Twilight's princesshood was meant to be little more than her reward for achieving full understanding of friendship as well as the end of her journey of going from student to teacher, it wasn't supposed to be looked at as a more drastic of a change than that. And the Season 4 premiere had Twilight learn how she actually shouldn't let her position change anything about her relationship with her friends. So having her now being a full-time princess would only screw that episode's aesop.

And you didn't take into account my previous statement of how it would be out-of-character for Twilight to use her authority unless a problem is serious enough to require it, which actually explains why she didn't order anypony to simply give her a cab; knowing her, she'd think doing so would just make her look petty and entitled.

Really, if she used her authority as a princess for mundane things, it may screw with the modesty she's know for, leading to considerable character derailment, if she didn't it would lead to the point you're trying to bring across.

If you really want to see Twilight take advantage of her being a princes, refer to my previous statement on how we'll have to wait 'till a situation is dire enough to truly demand it.

Bottom line, in your case, we're looking more at what is, to an extent, a 'Damned if you do, damned if you don't' scenario, and given the initial reception Twilight's coronation got, we can't really blame the dev team for not wanting to take any unneeded risks.

Twilight's new wings. Ughhh... It makes my brian hurt.

I mean, I am proud of Twilight for the "promotion", but it just does not feel right.

I like Twilight for her book-worm-y self. Like a kind, sweet, little dorky filly. But when she got her wings, and after that, she seems to have.. changed in a way. I don't know about you, but I like lil' twily as she was. What about you?twilight_sparkle_by_raikoh_illust-d5es99

I think you're pretty late to this party. I wasn't a member of the fandom yet but I've heard there was a big backlash when this originally happened.

I don't really mind them, to be honest. I think she earned them so I'm proud of her, and I haven't noticed as much difference in her personality as others have. She just wasn't given many moments to shine this past season so hopefully that changes in the upcoming one.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you're just new to the fandom, but this is an issue long gone. Many people preferred twilight without the wings, but by now have learned to look past it.

EDIT: post was originally part of Lunar Glow's thread

They're OK but I'd have preferred she stayed a unicorn. Now there're 3 out of the 6 main characters who can fly, plus it broke the 2 unicorns 2 pegasi 2 earth ponies balance.

@Lunar Glow, just letting you know that I've merged your thread with an older one for talking about whether we like Twilight as an alicorn or not. Helps to keep the discussion all in one place, for organizational reasons :).

My main concern was how all this talk of Twilight's grand destiny seemed to be leaving little room for Twilight herself, as a character. I saw her taking center stage more and more in big plot and adventure episodes--where usually I prefer for the group to shine, as opposed to any individual character--while doing less with her in day to day situations. In my mind, her becoming a princess of all things was unlikely to change things on that end.

As of now, I'm mostly used to her with wings. Still want more Slice of Life Twilight than we've getting (she was amazing in Testing Testing  ) and for her to be taking more of a backseat during the big premieres/finales/laser shows. Rainbow Rocks was an encouraging step in that direction :)

I despise how she got those wings, but I don't ming her being an alicorn itself.

But I don't want her becoming a mentor figure, Celestia has a lot of problems with her character, I still like celestia (Except in magical mystery cure, screw that episode) however I don't want Twilight being Cenestia #2, especially to her friends because that leads to twilight and the others having an unbalenced relationship, I don't want that.

Twilight is better off as an equal rather than a princess, y'know.

I've supported Twilicorn since I heard of it, and after the finale, I still support. I personally think it's silly to still think it's a bad idea, or to leave the fandom because of it.

Now, MMC, in terms of subjectivity, yes, it was rushed and sloppy, but I still enjoyed it overall.

Excuse me... This is one topic I'm especially passionate about.

I've always regarded Twilight's transformation into an alicorn as a vital aspect of her character development, and believed that it was well done. I also disagree that she is some form of "Mary Sue," because her character is actually relatively deep.

Also, about it seeming to be a marketing scheme... OBVIOUSLY. My Little Pony is a children's television show created by a toy company. Did we think there would be no marketing schemes?

Sig made by Kyoshi.

Cool things people have said about me:

Never heard of him but I guess just you mentioning him is a good reason not to go anywhere near that name.

(In reference to an author I suggested.)

I remember when the rumors came out, I was one of the first people to say: "Yep. This is gonna be awesome."
On the day of the episode, I had my little: "I believe in M.A Larson" badge ready. I was totally right. Twilicorn is fantastic!

Straight up, what do you think of Twilight as an alicorn princess?

I think that the plot was interestingly set up with Twilight gaining and using wings, she's had to make even bigger and more vital leader decisions, she's had more character development, good Lord.

Twilight is too OP Hasbro plz nerf.

Anyway, yeah. Don't even get me started on her clash with Tirek.

So, all-in-all, Alicorn Twilight is heavily overhated and is a great plotline. I love it. Thank you, Hasbro. SEASON 5 WHY MUST YOU BE SO FAR OFF!

Anyway, what do you think?
