Poniverse Logo Design Contest

I teased Poniverse, our new "supercommunity" that will unite and integrate MLP Forums, Pony.fm, and our various other pony fan projects, when I announced that MLP Forums will be attending BronyCon. In fact, we will be attending BronyCon as Poniverse.

 

But Poniverse can't get out there and face the world without a logo. So we're reaching out to you, the community, to create one for us! The winning logo will become an integral part of Poniverse's identity, and will be used on the Poniverse websites, our BronyCon booth and panel, future apparel and merch, and everywhere else we need a logo.

How to enter

Attach your logo to an email and send it to logo.contest@poniverse.net. The deadline is 11:59 PM PDT on May 19, 2013.

 

This contest is open to everyone: you do not need to be a member of MLP Forums/Poniverse to enter. If you know anyone who's artistically minded and might be interested in winning some cash, share this post with them!

 

Rules

• SVG, AI, or EPS files are preferred.
• High-resolution PSD, PNG, or other image-type files will be accepted as well.
• We will request the source file(s) for the winning logo, so please don't throw them out!
• There is no limit to how many logos you can enter. However, you can only win one prize.
• In your email, include the names of all fonts used. If you downloaded any of them from the Internet, include links to where you found them as well.
  • Of course, you're welcome to forgo a font and create your own letters, too.
• Do not use any official My Little Pony assets. That means, no canon ponies/characters/locations/etc.; however, you're more than welcome to use generic pony silhouettes that aren't recognizable as any of Hasbro's characters.
• Do not post your submission on this thread.  Only submit your designs via the email provided.  Any and all posts that contain your logo submission will be removed.

 

Prizes

• 1st Place: $100, everlasting glory, and your design becomes Poniverse's identity!
• 2nd Place: $50 and everlasting glory.
• 3rd Place: $25 and everlasting glory.

The lucky three will have their logos showcased on MLP Forums and announced to our mailing list (~10,000 people!) with links to your deviantART account, Twitter profile, or anywhere you want. Prizes will be paid out via PayPal in Canadian Dollars (they can be converted to your local currency if you're outside of Canada).

Just to note, vectoring in Photoshop can make a PSD file with vector graphics. So it isn't a completely wasted format.

 

Perhaps also talk about what extremely high res could mean. 3,000 x 3,000 could do.

1) Ultimately, we're looking to get a vector out of this, which can be scaled indefinitely. If a winning entrant provides a raster image, we'll have it traced by a vector artist. So, the size doesn't matter too much, as long as it isn't microscopic. If you're working in a raster environment and have no idea what "not microscopic" is, a minimum of 1000x1000 pixels would be a good place to start. But again, because the final logo will be vectored, it really doesn't matter that much.

You can convert CAD to Euros, you know.

 

As outlined in the contest rules, PSD is an acceptable format. I would prefer vectors whenever possible, but we're in a position to vectorize raster images if needed.

I really like making logos randomly, so you can pretty much guarantee a submission from me.  *Pull out paper for ideas* GLHF everyone.

You may submit as many logos as you wish before the contest closes, but only one of them can win a prize.

Because I don't have any good ways to vector the sketch that I might submit.

 

A raster image is any kind of image that is composed of pixels. If the image's dimensions are in pixels and it gets blurry/pixelated when you blow it up, it's a raster. Vectors have no concept of pixels and always look good at any size.

 

Although we prefer digitally made logos, I don't want that to stop any good concepts/ideas from entering. If you submit a sketched logo and it wins, we'll make a vector out of it.

You're welcome to use anything as long as it isn't recognizable as a pony from the official show. With that said, I personally suggest sticking to generic pony silhouettes if you're going to have an "OC" in your submission, as they don't imply a specific association with any one pony.

There are no limits on dimensions and file size. You should not be having to cut down anything to submit your entry. If you run into any specific issues, email or PM me and we'll work something out.

You may send in a downsized file if uploading the source files presents a serious issue; however, if you feel comfortable submitting your source files directly, that would be preferable, as we can then judge the logo in its fullest glory. Our mail server can handle pretty huge attachments, so don't worry about difficulties on our end.

 

If the file is too big to comfortably send via email, get in touch with me privately and I can provide alternate submission options for you.

Some questions, does the logo have to be on a transparent background? Because sometime backgrounds are unneccesary when you use in on something like, a website header or something...

1. I'm too young to have a Paypal account, and my parents aren't a big fan of mlp contests... So what about that?

 

2. (Here's the really stupid one) Source files? What? Is that like a .pdn or a Manga Studios file?
