Would My Little Pony be better if it was for Cartoon Network?

Don't get me wrong, I love MLP. But what people don't seem to realize is that it would probably be a very different show if Lauren Faust could have done anything she wanted with it. Hasbro changed a lot of what she had planned, and I'm sure if she worked for a looser company she probably would make it differently. (So people stop acting like its such a huge deal that Hasbro made them make her an alicorn, and "its all for toy sales!" because they made her do a LOT of junk, and it was ALWAYS "All for toy sales!"

Cartoon Network gives the people who make their shows more creative freedom, in my opinion. The Powerpuff Girls was made for CN and they basically let Craig do whatever he wanted with it. (Just watch: The Powerpuff Girls. Who what when why...who cares?  It shows how he made it.)  If the Hub/Hasbro let Lauren Faust do WHATEVER she wanted with it, do you think it would be even better?

Most of us know she would have used different designs based on G1 ponies. They are Surprise, Twilight, Posie, Sparkler, Applejack and Firefly. Hasbro made her change their names and color schemes to match G3 ponies. Most bronys don't like their ponies to look different so when they see these designs they automatically dislike them, and I'll admit I like some of the newer designs better, but I think they fit Laurens vision, and their personality better. Especially Surprise. First of all, as much as I like Pinkie Pie.......Pinkie Pie? What the hay is that supposed to mean? Shouldn't have something to do with her love of parties, or making ponies smile? And I'm guessing she likes to bake which is why she has Pie in her name but she doesn't love to bake all that much. It could mean something like how clowns use pies in their joke a lot, but I think the name Surprise better. Also her colors are a lot better IMO. They make her look even cuter! Also I think Fireflies color scheme fits her better (although I'm not so much for bright pink and bright blue together) because it shows that you can be a girl (pink) but still be tough and tomboyish (blue)  I'm not in love with Sparkler however, because white is a cleaner color and goes with Rarity better.

Also, she was planning to name Applebloom Appleseed. She changed other ponies colors and names

too.

But enough about the colors and names. I think other things would be a bit different too. The Hub is for little kids, so there can be very little violence, or adult jokes. The Powerpuff girls was lighthearted but still had some violence (and surprisingly a lot of adult jokes XD) I'm not saying I like the Powerpuff girls better then MLP, or that MLP isn't good, but I actually think it would be even better if Lauren had more creative freedom and everything was more like in her vision. What do you think?

(On a side note, Lauren Faust did NOT creative the Powerpuff girls, her husband did. She had just as much to do with it as the other writers and designers.)
(On another side note, does anyone else think they based the CMC on the Powerpuff girls? Applebloom is kind of the leader, and has red hair and a red bow, like Blossom. Sweetie Belle is the cutsie one and a bit more girly and naive, like Bubbles. And Scootaloo is a tomboy like Buttercup.)

Dear goodness no.  I think cartoon network would change it way to much.  I mean yeah cartoon network is alright but Hasbro has done what no other company could ever do I personally think.  I feel like CN would kinda "kid it up", and make it more for little kids.  Well..........it's already "for kids", but less references to other stuff that only older dudes would know.  I think that MLP is good with Hasbro.

Well, Lauren's husband did have a big hit with the Powerpuff Girls on Cartoon Network and the Cutie Mark Crusaders do remind me of the Powerpuff Girls. But, I don't think that it would be better if it was on Cartoon Network since Cartoon Network is known for killing good shows these days and they would find a way to mess up the show.

Regarding the, would it be better, My initial instict is no. Currently i love the show how it is, and although Lauren may of had a bit more creative license( or megan now) it would be very different because ultimatly it would have been by different people and it might be alot worse then it is now.

I an understand where your comming from though, it does get annoying when they seemingly hinder them, but i wouldnt want anything changed ( except maybe the whole derpy gate thing).

Well... considering modern cartoon network is where shows go to die, then god no. Don't get me wrong, I loved cartoon network... when it had quality shows. I think CN would mess it up. I like the show the way it is, and I don't know what the big deal is with alicorn twilight either. Just leave it how it is.

Maybe I should change the title and stuff. I'm not so sure what CN does to shows these days (though I think Adventure Time is amazing) I only know that the old CN gave them a lot of freedom. Craig was able to do almost whatever he wanted with Power Puff girls.

As everyone else said, it wouldn't be the greatest idea. In my opinion, Cartoon Network has made a few bad shows lately, and having a place like that support MLP would just ruin it. Just like you said, it would be loosely supported, and that usually leads to a show of pure random and unentertaining aspects.

I don't think Cartoon Network would necessarily be a better place for My Little Pony.  Yes, Lauren probably would've gotten more creative freedom but My Little Pony's vibe is different from Cartoon Networks. Cartoon Network is randomness. My Little Pony just wouldn't fit in, I don't think. Oh well, I'm happy with what we have now so I'm not going to complain.

Although creative freedom is very important, I also think it's important to have some structure and outside opinions. I don't find anything inherently wrong with the names or color schemes of the ponies we have now, nor to I think it's a very important part of the show. Lauren Faust's original names don't seem very appealing to me, but maybe I'm just bias.

However profit-oriented Hasbro's motives may seem, they are still a very big part of what the show is today. The fact that Hasbro made Twilight an alicorn may have been for the sake of selling more toys, but it is following Faust's original vision of the show, as well as helping it move forward in general.

Well, I never cared about this for two main reasons :-
1- I rarely use TV, I use TV to watch Breaking news (Which is occasionally)
2- In middle east, We already have MLP: FiM on Cartoon Network Arabic! :P

What would happen? MLP wouldn't exist. It would have been cancelled before the fandom picked up on it. A majority of CN's audience isn't the target demographic, and they would have killed it when the production cost (professional animation in flash is expensive) was far greater than the projected potential income. Also it wouldn't be as easy to get it online.

Er, I don't really know, and I'm not sure I'd care either way. I think MLP is doing a great job thus far, and Lauren gave us the great world of Equestria, and now Meghan is pushing it in the right direction, I think.

To be honest, I like it just the way it is. (No change-averse people here.)

Eh to be honest it could go either way. Cartoon network does have a few good shows like Adventure Time and Regular Show and that's because the network doesn't really force anything on them like the Hub does to its producers.

MLP would most likely stay the same so to be truthful, there would be little to no difference than what it already is.

That was because that no longer help the rights to those names and designs. It had nothing to do with marketing. So everything the long winded bit about liking the old designs is a moot point because using them would've been near impossible.

As for the subject of topic, you're using a cartoon from the  late 90s/early 00s as a comparison point. CN has greatly declined since then to point that only have like two halfway decent shows on the air.

So in short, no.

Also, how is the Hub a channel for "little kids"?

It wouldn't even take off no-matter how "Good" it could have possibly been on CN.

The target demographic just isn't there, first season would air and it'd be gone and our Fandom would've never existed in such a great manner as it is now.

On Cartoon Network, it more than likely would have existed as a sardonic send-up of the original series, especially if it would've been in prime time. Might have been entertaining, too.

But, as it stands, it's primary purpose is to sell plastic ponies - just as My Little Pony cartoons always have been about selling them - and yet it seems to rise above that goal and have higher aspirations. That's the reason I took notice of it, and probably the reason many others did, too. The fact that it's been successful in that regard AND on a fledgling network are keys to its fame that you probably wouldn't want to toy (pun) with in retrospect.

Hasbro could have used those designs and names. The copyright thing is bunk. I think Hasbro just didn't want to use them for some reason. They could have called them Firefly the pegasus and Twilight the Unicorn and then just call them Firefly and Twilight. Like with Twilight Sparkle, they still call her Twilight. Applejack is also a G1 pony but they used her design didn't they? Also, Hasbro doesn't have the rights to old Transformers but they brought back Bumble Bee, just changing his name slightly. So they really could have done it.

Also, I stated earlier, I meant the old CN, from the Powerpuff Girls time.

I'm not necessarily bias towards my idea, I just think it would probably be more what Lauren envisioned it to be.

1)Hasbro pretty much gave away the rights to the early gens when they sold the old toy molds, so it would've been a nightmare to re-aquire the rights in any shape or form.

2)CN is a kids channel to.

No, Cartoon Network stuff has mostly random shows that usually make no sense, where as MLP Does have a legitimate storyline. It wouldn't fit into the rest of their programming. We also JUST got Cartoon Network here in Canada., like last year I think.

That being said MLP: FiM  DOES air on "Treehouse"  here in Canada., but it's random episodes.  They don't air them in order. We don't get "The Hub" here on our satellite. But I've got my PVR/DVR set to record episodes from Treehouse. And best of all they're commercial free.

So for me to watch any "new" episode I have to go to Youtube a day later, or find a live stream somewhere.

I doubt it. For one thing no show goes from concept to show unchanged. Lauren knew this. For another thing most companies wouldn't take the risk on this type of show for girls. Heck it was Cartoon Network that denied her pitch for the Galaxy girls despite the success of Power Puff girls. Even Hasbro was iffy about creating a show for little girls with complex characters and actual conflict.

I do agree with you on that last part. They actually made a fan made video where The Powerpuff Girls opening was changed to Zecora making the CMC. I was like LOL! But maybe if Lauren had more creative freedom some things would have been better.

But frankly I can't imagine Surprise singing The Smile Song. Just NO!!

The thing is, and I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet, regardless of what channel it airs on, My Little Pony is still a Hasbro-owned property. If Lauren Faust wanted to make her own My Little Pony show just out of the blue, she'd still have to get Hasbro's permission to use the property. You can't compare them to other Cartoon Network original programming (such as Powerpuff Girls, Adventure Time, etc) because the operative word in those shows is original programming. They can do what they want because it's their property to manage as they see fit. Ms Faust doesn't own MLP, so whether it's aired on the Hub, or CN, or Nickelodeon, or Discovery Channel, they'd still have to do whatever Hasbro says as it belongs to them entirely.

What you can compare it to, is Transformers, another Hasbro property that did air on Cartoon Network for a time, before the Hub existed. Every incarnation of that show had to do whatever Hasbro said. Beast Wars had to deal with a lot of this (though it was still an amazing show). And MLP would be just the same.

As for names, trademarks is serious bizniss and Hasbro has had to deal with that COUNTLESS times. Again, I bring up Transformers. Hasbro has had unbelievable amounts of trouble in making new toys that homage characters in previous generations, because they lost the names. It happens, trademarks expire, and this is especially troublesome when reviving 80's franchises (which MLP is). They had the same problems with G.I. Joe. I am not one bit surprised that they lost the G1 names for MLP.

So please, before laying Hasbro on the guillotine, keep all this in mind.

Honestly, there is no way of telling whether the show would've been better or worse on Cartoon Network. Maybe in some crazy alternate universe, it is hosted there, and it did turn out better. Either way, that is that universe, not this one.

I think it was for the best that Hasbro hosted it, honestly. While I do feel like the show is slowly becoming less about plotline and more about introducing new characters they can turn into toys, overall it has some pretty good moments in it.

I wouldn't change a thing.  B)
