What's the relation between TF2 and MLP?

MLP + Modders = Ponified games, TF2 being really popular leads to a greater chance of it being ponified.

Or at least, that's what I think o.O

couldn't have said it better myself

Where there are bronies, and some freedom in video games... Such a thing could only mix so well!

I believe that people only recognize Team Fortress Two as one of the main brony "ghettos" because of the freedom to express it, such as in paints and stuff. This allows bronies to pronounce their interests better, which will obviously attract more bronies. I can only explain so far, however, because I do not play.

Well, it's a greater extension of the fact that apparently, people like making models of ponies to use in GMod. Unfortunately not too many GMod videos are actually good, with pony based ones being no exception.

Those that are tend to be rather fun though.

As for Team Fortress Two itself...I think I should start playing it again, play on a pony server, see how I like it. It's been too long since I've tried it.

The flexibility with pony-related mods, as others have mentioned, is a huge part of it.

A chunk of it is also the fact that since the game has such a large player base, it's just sheer odds that there will be a lot of MLP fans there, right? And people like to combine their interests, so it just works.

Pretty much ever popular multiplayer/massively multiplayer game out there has it's own groups of MLP fans. Sometimes you just have to look harder for them.

I've seen so many things connecting TF2 and MLP. What exactly is the connection between the two things?

Personally I haven't seen many as you say, but awnsering your question, it's clearly their fans

There really isn't one. It just happened that MLP got very popular in the TF2 community for various reasons when it first started. I believe it was one of the most important brony communities at that time and so lots of bronies were created from this.

Both overlap in terms of audience (i.e., young adult males) while appealing to fans with vibrant characters, unique art styles, and sharp writing. I imagine there is also an "antithesis effect" where such disparate characters and themes are brought together on the very basis of their differences. For example, Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball were frequently crossed over in the late 90s and early 2000s by fans even though the shows had stark contrasts.

I mainly attribute it to their mutual popularity and fan bases.

You took the words right out of my mouth!

I heard that once the meme left 4chan it spread around and TF2 was one of the places it went, where a bunch of community's were set up, and people learned about it from there.

It spreads quite easily in the TF2 community because of the sprays. I can't count the number of times my friend and I have put our pony sprays up next to each other and other people have put more up around them.

The relationship is simple.

Awesome + Awesome = DOUBLE THE AWESOME.

In short, adding one to the other makes the result AT LEAST 20% cooler.

Does this also explain why Skyrim and Minecraft have many brony fans, too?

Probably, yeah. Mutual, internet savvy fan bases which are predominantely male will increase the likelihood of shared fandoms.

An Acronym is an abbreviation that you can pronounce, like RADAR, LASER or NASA.

An Initialism is an abbreviation using the first letters of the words in an identification or title.

You can pronounce mlp like "mulp" and tf2 like "tfftoo"
