Am I the only one this Christmas?
Princess Lona replied to SwigglySwiggly's topic in General Discussion
If your family is Buddhist why do you celebrate Christmas? -
That's a place where a new character could be introduced right now and it could work. I don't think I'd like to see a fourth CMC added until after they get their marks (which I suspect will happen this season) because that whole storyline has been about these three ponies forming bonds which will be forever sealed when they all get their marks. Adding a fourth into the mix at this stage would take away from it. But adding a colt to Babs' branch would work nicely. It would also be nice to show the best friends dynamic between a male and female character without romance interfering as it often does in that situation in works of fiction. Or, after the mane CMC get their marks, they could carry on the club name and devote their time to helping other young ponies get their marks. Enter our new colt character.

One thing that always bothered me about the shows I watched as a kid was that in any team situation there was always a token female character. Sometimes two, but never more. The G.I. Joes had Scarlet, Transformers had that pink curvy one, the live action TMNT had that Japanese girl turtle, the Smurfs have Smurfette, and more recently we have Black Widow in the Avengers. The reason I hate this is that the token female is always there just to be a girl. She is only there so that people won't get mad that there are no female characters on the show and as a result, she ends up being an underdeveloped and forgettable character. In that case, I would much rather watch a show with no female main characters at all. And this works for token male characters as well. Adding a shoehorned, male character would just be an insult to the male viewers in my opinion. It could have been cool if a few of the mane six had been stallions from the start, but Hasbro thought the show was going to be watched only by young girls so they designed the characters to be as relatable as possible to that demographic. It's too late to change it now.

That's why I said some of the most powerful characters are princesses. I was specifically thinking of Discord when I said that because I know a lot of fans see him as the most powerful character even though I am not aware of any proof of that. In my opinion, when you get up to hero and villain levels of power in this show, it becomes like Dragonball and the numbers don't mean anything. Characters are as powerful in any given moment as the writers need them to be for the plot.

If Twilight was evil... Dun Dun DUN!
Princess Lona replied to fantasyTheorist's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
This made me think of the episode of The Twilight Zone where the little boy has psychic powers and he turns all the adults into horrible versions of death if they think unpleasant thoughts. On topic: I would love to see this happen. I like the alternate dimension Twilight idea because then good Twilight could fight her like Shadow Link. I love evil twin/replica plots. -
The Fandom's (Second) Worst Trait: Crippling Over-Speculation
Princess Lona replied to MissDashie's topic in Sugarcube Corner
I am a theatre person. I study and practice theatre. I chose to study theatre because I already loved being told stories and telling stories. A part of good storytelling is detail, and a part of being a good audience member to a story is caring about all the details of the story you are being told. So I don't consider any amount of analyzing to be "over-analyzing", it's just good audienceship. In fact, I would say the more a piece of art is analyzed, the more engaging and therefore better it probably is. And people will make their analysis through mediums in which they are already talented or interested. If that Russian guy wanted to create a formula showing how Pegasi can fly I say good for him! If I was more into math I would probably find it fun too. I'm more into influencing culture, so I like to analyze plots and the messages they send, and speculate on what kind of messages future plots might send. I wouldn't be a member of this fandom if I didn't care enough to wonder why Queen Chrysalis was able to maintain the level of power she got from Shining Armour's love even after she revealed herself and was clearly not receiving that love anymore. -

I thought Flutterhulk was perfect. The fact that she didn't hulk out until the very end made it so much sweeter when she finally did. For a moment there, I thought the joke was going to be that she would never do it. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. But if I had to choose another power for Fluttershy I would say jetpack. That would be funny to me because she can already fly, but it seems she prefers to walk.

movies/tv Why is anime so popular?
Princess Lona replied to Static Electricity's topic in Media Discussion
Some of the more well-versed anime fans in this thread have pointed out that any animation is technically an anime. I was not aware of that. I was under the impression that anime refers specifically to animation drawn in the general style of a manga and I think that's what the OP meant so I'll continue under that definition. I never considered myself an anime fan but recently I discovered one or two animes that I like and for me the draw was not so much the style/mood/themes/whatever, but the subject matter. I love all things pirate, so naturally when I heard about One Piece I started watching it (131 episodes down, a billion to go!). Another time when I was feeling a bit heartsick I stumbled upon Itzura Na Kiss and watched the whole series in like a week. But as for why others like it: One thing I have noticed about the bit of anime I know is that emotions are heightened to extremes. So I believe that some people in the west really like anime because in the last few decades western entertainment and storytelling culture has become very sarcastic and many of the characters are way too "cool" so they just don't emote properly. There are few moments of genuine feels. Some people are getting fed up with it. Anime characters are almost always quite genuine when expressing their feelings, and when they are lying it is obvious so they never really lie to the audience. Come to think of it, that's the very reason Shakespeare was so loved. Huh. -
Like others have said, it's totally because the marketing executives know that "Princess Twilight Sparkle" sells more toys than "Queen Twilight Sparkle". And I've heard the tales about how the writers wanted Celestia, Luna, Cadence, and Twilight to have the title of Queen rather than Princess because they thought it would add more regality and seriousness. But I think in the end it's better that they have the title Princess, because this show redefines what "princess" means. Throughout the history of children's stories princesses have almost always either been powerless or their power has come from being physically beautiful or possessing some sort of enchantment that they themselves don't actually control. Not the most empowering message for young girls. By making some of the most powerful characters on the show adult princesses, MLP blows away the stereotypical princess.

Call of the Cutie = Girl going through Puberty?
Princess Lona replied to DiscordAnarchy's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
I think the analogy is more specific than just general puberty. Puberty is usually regarded as being solely about physical development, whereas getting a cutie mark is about personal/emotional/spiritual development. In the real world, even though we only think of puberty as a physical thing, it really is a time when you are learning a lot about yourself and defining yourself. The physical changes in your body definitely affect that to some extent, so I think cutie marks are more specifically a metaphor for the inner growth that occurs during puberty, with a physical manifestation in the form of a butt tattoo. -
I would love to see Tabula with my eyes for once, instead of just my mind's eye. Her link is in my sig. Thank you so much for the kind offer!

I can't believe in the sasquatch at the moment, because I have not seen enough proof that they exist. However, I really really want sasquatch to exist. If they truly are as gentle and pacifist as the legends say then I think they could teach us a lot. I imagine that if they exist they are at least as intelligent as humans, so they are smart enough to realize that there is little they can do to convince us to stop our destructive ways without resorting to using force themselves. So they just live in hiding, waiting for us to learn on our own to be more gentle with our planet. Once we have evolved mentally to the point where we are no longer a threat to them, they will reveal themselves and help us learn how to reclaim our wild ways. At least that's what I hope.

I've never seen a horse on the show, but they must exist because they are mentioned. I assume that all of the equine characters we have seen so far except Zecora have been ponies, because they call themselves ponies. Yet there are certain characters like Big Mac who looks like a clydesdale or other type of pack horse even though his family are all ponies. Celestia and Nightmare Moon both resemble horses more than ponies because of their longer necks and taller stature. I don't think they have ever been referred to as ponies or horses. It's a good point you raise. It would be cool to see a part of Equestria that is inhabited by horses. Maybe Saddle Arabia.

Wow, thank you so much. I guess Carrot Top is polyamorous. I forgot about the Oranges too. In the MLP Gameloft App Aunt and Uncle Orange live in different houses in different towns. I found this strange and it made me begin to headcannon that they got divorced. But I figure nothing in that game is really cannon. It was probably just a matter of game writers not knowing enough about the show.

Caramel and whoever this mare is (seen in the perfect stallion song from Hearts and Hooves Day) All of these couples (also seen in the same song) And these two in the background of Flight to the Finish. I guess they could be family or friends, but when I see two people alone embracing on a train station platform I always think lovers. If anyone can identify any of these characters, please do. I'm dying to know. Edit: oh, and Jet Set and Upper Crust. http://mlp.wikia.com/wiki/Jet_Set_and_Upper_Crust

MLP:FiM Gameloft App, Friends, and Info
Princess Lona replied to Lost Profile's topic in Sugarcube Corner
Does anyone know of any good glitches one could exploit to get free gems? There was a good glitch that I used to use on the first version of the game but since the updates it's been fixed and I can't find anymore glitches. Also, has anyone won Caramel from the balloon pop game? He's the last balloon pop pony I need and I never get him. Is he even winnable? -
Season 4: Predictions & Hopes
Princess Lona replied to JonathanDP81's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
Spoiler warning if you haven't watched Flight to the Finish yet. The Scootaloo cutie mark troll at the end of Flight to the Finish has given me a suspicion. I think the CMC are all going to get their cutie marks simultaneously during the flag ceremony at the games. Even though it has been made obvious what the CMC's cutie marks are going to be, they have also shown that teamwork is a talent that they are all good at, and their bond has become quite strong through their crusading. Because of this, I feel that teamwork and friendship has to at least play a part in them getting their marks, if it isn't reflected in the marks themselves. Scoots has not yet realized that her talent is scooter tricks, but she took a big step toward that realization by choosing to have faith in her part of the flag routine despite not being able to fly. I think there may be similar episodes for Sweetie Belle and Apple Bloom leading up to the Equestria Games. Then during the flag ceremony, something will go horribly wrong and the Crusaders will have to improvise or step up their game a notch, resulting in them saving the day and all getting their marks at the same time. I don't know exactly what will happen, but to venture a guess: Perhaps the stadium will come under some tremendous stress to the point where it could collapse with everyone in it. The CMC realize the problem, but don't want to sound the alarm for fear of causing a stampede. So Apple Bloom must use her carpentry skills to fix the problem, while the others keep the crowd distracted using their talents. They stabilize the stadium and pull off a sweet flag routine which everyone loves then they all get their marks in the same moment. The CMC all getting cutie marks at the same time isn't necessarily what I want to see happen, but it looks like it may be in the cards.- 851 replies

I always say gif in my head, but I think I read an article once that said the creator of the file type says it should be jif. It doesn't really matter to me because the only time I ever talk about gifs is in writing on the internet.
