Any autistic bronies here in MLP Forums?

I'm from New Zealand, And i have Asperger's. I can't physically attend Bronycon but i can contribute to the fandom by purchasing off Amazon, watching the Show and posting on forums. I am known to keep my involvement in the fandom quiet because there are people out there, as i would say, would love nothing better to judge me before they know me. But it doesn't upset me. Whenever I am severly judged, I think to myself: You're hurting no one but yourself and the things you represent/stand for. I have come from a very supportive family, which has generated a lot of positivity and achievement in my life. I believe people are allowed to do whatever they want, as long as it's not hurting anyone else.

I’m glad a stumbled across this thread as it makes for very interesting reading for me.

As far as I know I’m not autistic, or ever have been, but I did suffer from a serious

attack or Viral Meningitis several years ago. This left me in coma for 10 days and the

resulting brain damage I suffered has now left me as a sever epileptic among other

Things.

Another upshot of the damage was that I lost 20 years of memories and underwent a

change in personality. I used to be outgoing and easy to get along with. I never had

trouble socially interacting with people and making new friends, now I’m just the

opposite. In real life, when not hiding behind the screen of my laptop, I am

completely socially inept and can be difficult to deal with suffering from severe mood

swings. I hide in corners and find it almost impossible to interact with another person

face to face, I just loose the mental ability to talk or hold any sort of meaningful

conversation, or even want to. My affliction has taken the small amount of shyness I

had and blown it out of all proportion.

I’ve never known anybody that is autistic, and have very little understanding of it as a

result, but if this is what you guys have gone through from your childhood I feel real

empathy for you. It is so nice to see your positive attitude towards it, and just getting

on with your lives. It gives me the strength to try and work with my own life for the

better.

Thank you. :kindness:

I only know 1 person IRL with autism, my cousin, who I heard also had a case of Schizophrenia. I don't have it, I just have anxiety, and idk what else. But i've never been diagnosed with it. I have a lot of trouble learning things im not interested in too though. This didn't happen to me before, but since like, April this year, everytime I speak to someone I've never met before (even right now), I start shaking, and I feel hot and cold at the same time, and start sweating, but shivering at the same time. And I mean like, really shiverry.

MLP tends to make people feel happy. It gets my mind off a lot of things going on in the real world for a whole 22 minutes, so I can definitely see it being able to calm people down, or even make them happier.

I never thought that there would actually be a person like you NOT in the 5:00 news, whom of which never gets mentioned again anywhere after that.

Yet, you are here being an active member of a brony forum.

It's kind of funny how although you are socially inept outside of the internet, yet you are here. It's like the screen is a gateway to conversation.

That's cool.

Also, if this reply "offended" you, I am sorry. I was trying to output my thoughts on here and I don't know how to word it correctly.

Thanks.

Aww come on you beat me to it

Also, everyone is on the spectrum (hence why it's a spectrum) its just many people sit in the middle, and thus are "normal" whilst those of us of center have autism.

Um, so, by your logic, everyone is autistic and normal at the same time.

Also, remember, Autism isn't like other disorders. No two Autistic people have the same symptoms. Yes, they do have symptoms, but which ones they get and how severe they are depend on God's mood at the moment or something like that.

Fear not friend, I am in no way offended  :kindness:

Thank God.

I was worried for a second.

Where you going to present a documentary like the kind I made (including the overall tone I used throughout the whole thing?)?

I was going to write a big thing about Autism.

Never got around to it because I am lazy, but here's one thing I would have put in there:

"The best people who can teach Special Ed in public schools are people who were in the program at one point. They know what not to do."

I actually self-diagnosed myself with autism spectrum disorder after years of research and wondering. I know there is a stigma against people who self-diagnose, but I feel that those of us cannot or do not want to be diagnosed are just as important. I, personally, am uncertain about the prospect of diagnosis in my own life because I have heard many people struggle with getting one after their childhood years.

Yet again, if you've seen the very end before the credits, I already brought out a clear and powerful message.

I have Autism--it's the reason I prefer to interact with others through the internet. It's MUCH easier to post on message boards than talk to people face to face (socialization is scary stuff, people! :( ).

I have Aspergers if that counts. It's not too bad, I can deal with it. I'm not open about being on the spectrum though. It's embarrassing to talk about. I keep it a secret even from my friends.

I have Autism or Asperger's Syndrome, socializing and making friends has always been a problem for me, it's easier for me online than in real life but still not easy and i have limited interests.

I was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome when I was around 14-15 years old. Before that it was probably a contributing factor to me being bullied in elementary school. My secondary school was however specifically designed for people with Asperger's, and it was probably the best time in my life (not that it is bad now). We even got our own computers, and played LAN on the breaks with each other. Good times!

I still however am rather socially awkward don't have many friends and is very "algoritmic-thinking" as a consequence. Still, I'm working on overcoming my flaws, and I am making progress.

I wouldn't advise that you think of your Autism negatively, but rather use it as a positive advantage.

I recommend you give my documentary short here a watch, as it has a message that you most likely want to hear about Autism Advocacy:

I don't think of Asperger's as something negative. I think of it more as a trade-of. A knack for logical thinking and other positive effects, but also some negative effects such as reduced social competence (essentially the "nerd syndrome" as it has been called, and it's nerds that rule the world). Nothing insurmountable, however.

I will give the video a look.

I think I am autistic (Asperger's).

I am probably one of the few you will ever meet to have been in special ed and advanced placement in school, due to the fact I couldn't tie my shoes and my handwriting was (and still is) extremely poor. But also due to a high IQ of about 140.

But I also do not understand social behavior well. I have been made fun of, in fact, for not being able to tell if someone wanted to shake my hand or high-five.

I have lived fine with it, but it is difficult, being that I am extremely awkward and clumsy. But, I maintain high averages in school (basically straight A's), and understand life in general. I feel moderately impaired, though.

The life story of a self-proclaimed aspie.

But I know others on here like me. Might be why I keep posting here. These are my people.

I see.

Good. :)

Also, I'm not sure if you've noticed anything before, but the show personally helped me develop my social skills. This article I wrote explains my testimony about it: http://raisetheflagforautism.com/asd-and-me/

Were you able to get an official diagnosis yet?

Because I was fortunate to get diagnosed when I was 4. Yet it shouldn't be too late for you to get a diagnosis to confirm if you do in fact have Asperger's.

Considering the fact the autism spectrum has been increased to include WAY too many things, nearly everyone has it.
I have it, since they put ADD and ADHD in the autism spectrum.

Feel free to add me on steam if you want to play something. Also don't be afraid to message and talk to me. I've had bad luck when I start a conversation, so I more then likely won't start one.

Aka "LadyPKchu".

I changed my name again cuz lately fluttershy has been more my favorite pony :3 I like her innocence, and I think I may get active in the fluttershy fan club. I really like a lot of the other main 6 too though.

I'm also a FlutterDash supporter.

I still love Korrina from pokemon a lot and plan on keeping my Korrina profile for now :P

Eyyyyyy-yup, i got high-functioning autism too. When i was first diagnosed arouuuuund...i wanna say 9, but i'm not entirely sure, i didn't really care, which then turned into full-blown self-hatred in my mid-teens. But now, i've just accepted that it's part of who i am. In fact, i take a sort of pleasure in being a weirdo! :P
