I want to emigrate, but to where should I immigrate?

Okay, I am rather desperate to emigrate from my country, but to where should I immigrate? I don't want to go through the trouble and expenses to leave this bleep country only to end up in one just as bad.

No comment on where I am from.

At the moment, the countries I am considering are Sweden, Australia, and Japan.

At the moment, Sweden is my favorite choice and Australia is my husband's favorite choice.

Japan is an option because it would be the quickest & easiest for us to immigrate there. I am worried about their political situation and economic stability, though. Japan is also the only country listed above that I have traveled to, and I have a number of good friends who live there. I am also most familiar with Japan's language and culture than I am the others.

I am quick to learn foreign languages, so a country that does not speak English would be no problem for me. My husband, though, feels much much much more comfortable with places that are already predominantly English speaking.

Topics that are very important to me that I am looking for are:

1) Peaceful foreign policy

2) Egalitarian society (females being equal with males and not punished for being inherently female, religions not being persecuted nor part of the ruling)

3) Non-crazy non-corrupt judicial system

I have a degree and my major is Foreign Language & International Trade. When my husband graduates, he will have a degree in Computer Engineering.

I consider mentioning our education relevant in that we would be "educated immigrants." From the research I have done, for most of these countries we could enter on a work visa. I have researched each country's immigrant policy according to their own government websites.

If any of you have any relevant information about the countries listed, please give me a detailed list of pros and cons. Crime rate and frequency/type of natural disasters are also a factor I'd like to include.

Also, for whatever country you are recommending, please state "safe areas" to live and also "not safe never live here" areas to make sure we avoid.

Thank you everypony!

Pinkie Pie is my favoritest of the mane six for several reasons, but most importantly because she always has a good attitude. The others can doubt her, say somewhat unkind things, not believe her, and she just rolls with it. I also love her because her self-defined purpose in life is to make others happy. I believe her balloons cutie mark actually represents her uplifting others. Her amazing dimension bending and psychic powers are a factor, too :) When poor Pinkie Pie looses her mind, well, it is quite humorous. She has her own depression demons to fight, yet focuses on others. The world will be a better place when she succeeds in breaking that 4th wall! >:D

Well my question for you is how are you doing this? if you want to go to any country you have to have a legitimate reason, you cannot just move 'because you want to' unless you are loaded, do you have any family in any of these countries? Any job opportunities? are you an investor (have over $500,000)? Are you applying for a residence cause these are REALLY hard to get.

To be honest, I wouldn't choose Denmark. Sure, we're a nice country and all. But as far as I know it's hard as hell to immigrate over here. If you do choose to immigrate to scandinavia, go for Sweden or something.

I would intend to enter the country of choice with a work permit and hopefully, eventually gain citizenship.

Japan is only listed as an option because I have close friends there who could help me set up a home, and it's the easiest one that I could enter with a work visa - although it would be difficult to stay, and even more difficult to gain citizenship/permanent residence. It is an option, but not one I'm really banking on.

The true debate is between Sweden and New Zealand, but I would consider all listed. Please list all pros and cons.

We are not rich nor do we have any family elsewhere. We are educated and intend to immigrate somewhere with a work visa. That seems our most viable option.

I would not suggest going to Japan, especially if you yourself are not Japanese. They are very xenophobic, and you would not be welcomed if you lived there if you are a foreigner.

I completely agree. I went into a program to study abroad my junior year. Don't get me wrong it was an AMAZING experience and I got my Japanese linguistics pretty well down, but it took me a bit to find friends that didn't care that i was from america, but even then they still called me Gaijin(Foreigner) by nickname. Even my family I lived with had assumptions about me, they made a bunch of american food for me alone for a while while they all ate what they normally ate, until we went out to a sushi bar one day and I ordered yellowtail sashimi.

I'd recommend it if you wouldn't care about that kind of thing for a bit, because the jobs over there are great. With all the technology they have your husband would find a job easy, and you would be able to as well, you'd just need to learn the language and customs. But I hope you decide easy and make a great choice. Good Luck! ^-^

I would NOT suggest Finland simply because Russia is STILL trying to take control over it.

I believe your best bet is Sweden. They have the best prison system that actually works to TRY and integrate criminals back into society and not just punish them to Hell then hope for the best.

I'd say Norway or Sweden. It's pretty similar between the two, but brother Sweden is cheaper I say to live in. The weather is probably better and warmer over there as well.

Still, Norway has the nicer outdoor scenery, and still ranks 1st in the world for Human Development Index.

Have you considered Australia?

My husband would love Australia, actually. What info can you give me to make us officially consider it? :)

I have studied Japanese language and culture for many years, made perfect grades in all of my Japanese college courses, and have traveled there before. I absolutely loved it, though it was odd how soooo many strangers would take pictures of me. I was impressed with how polite everyone was, and very impressed with the public transportation. In my country, public transportation doesn't really exist, or if you take it in the rare areas it DOES exist, well... good luck coming back alive and not-mugged. But it is very, very inefficient and one cannot solely travel by walking nor public transit. Japan is an option I'd consider mainly because I know I could gain legal entry with a nice work visa, I already have many friends/contacts that could help us find residence and adjust. I haven't solely decided upon it though mostly because I'm worried it might go downhill too because of its foreign relations with some places.

Thanks for the tip! I'll mark off Finland as potential-war-zone. I had no idea.

This interactive based on a 2011 Newsweek magazine article might help:

Neat! Thank you!

This might help if you wanna know which is cheaper...

That looks like an interesting and useful site for direct comparisons. Thank you!

Come to Norway, it's nice to live here, but don't count on the politicans, they suck :P And where in Sweden was in your mind? Don't ever go to Malmo, it's an aweful place. But yeah both Sweden And Norway are very simular, but Norway got taller mountains. Sweden have better roads and politicans, but if you are interested in beautiful nature I would love to see you here in Norway :)

Similar situation here. My top choice is Sweden because of it's policies and large Socialist groups. It also has a huge tech industry from what I understand.

Don't you need a ton of money to settle in another country?
