spoiler What if for a major plot twist of Starlight Glimmer...

She's been faking her friendship with the group the whole time as a new revenge tactic against Twilight Sparkle. She knows she couldn't win with the time travel trick, so she surrendered to bide her time for another way of revenge.

In all seriousness though I think it would fall under levels of Captain America being a Hydra agent all along.

As much of a twist as that would be, I think there have been a whole lot of hints dropped that Starlight was faking her friendship with Twilight.  She does seem to be learning some legitimate lessons, and the way she still feels guilty about her actions as the leader of Our Town really shows that she's either an incredibly good actor, or she has no interest in going back to being a villain.

With how terrible and awful and rushed her "character reformation" was in The Cutie Re-Mark I would accept this.

Plus if it means that she actually gets punished for her actions this time around, than I am all for it.

Good actor, SG fooled an entire town for a long time and manipulated them into a cult. She also gave up against Twilight very easy and got off easy as well. SG also spied on TS and Mane 5 for a while.

THIS.

If she was just faking her friendship, it'd be WAY more obvious. Like, her entire freakout scene in The crystaling where she has that big big ringing noise going on while the camera zooms in on her face and all that, or her various mental insecurities about friendship... those are very real, and just would seem like plotholes if she was faking it.

Two words: mea culpa. Re-Mark and every episode she appeared afterwards shows us that she truly wants to learn the Magic of Friendship. She removed herself of her villainy. If she changes her mind at any point or reveals she faked it, then her progression is completely pointless and suggests to the audience that DHX gave up trying to write a memorable character. Reverting her back to a villain makes no sense whatsoever.

Okay first off the title should be: What if we're in for a major plot twist or similar.

Secondly While I would rather enjoy this, it's not going to happen. The show isn't going to back out of the whole "Friendship is Magic" thing even though it would be great to see how friendship alone just doesn't win the day and some people can't be your friends.

I am slowly starting to actually like Starlight a bit. Doing this would only make me hate her again. I really don't like seeing progress be completely destroyed like that.

It's pointless and would only make Starlight's character even worse during to the fact of her redemption. There's no clear notion that Starlight would refuse all the friendship lessons that S6 had put upon her currently and certainly she wouldn't want to throw away all her profound friends too.

What is the point? Just for shock value? Waste the whole season just to shock the fan and they will hate it for eternity. Some people didnt like Starlight and this plot twist wont help. Some people just want Starlights get her ass kicked  :please:

I made a post about this very topic on another thread a couple months ago. My thoughts haven't changed all that much since then.

This is the last thing the writers should do: there are already a lot of fans who think Starlight shouldn't have been forgiven so easily (myself included), so having her betray the Mane Six after they forgave her would do little to endear Starlight to the audience. If anything, it'd result in a whole lot more people turning against her, because Starlight would come off as untrustworthy and ungrateful, as well as undeserving of forgiveness.

I doubt it. First, as people have pointed out, it would vitiate all her development. And if they tried to make it that she had a backslide and returned to being a villain before being re-redeemed, that would just be rehashing what happened with Discord.

Know what would make that twist even bigger? Is if half of the story of her reveal of her betrayal was Trixies heart break that her one and only friend ended up only pretending to be her friend the entire time and after "another suicide" like scene like we got from No second Prances, she ends up being the only pony who can pull Starlight back! Maybe they have a magic duel and Trixie finds some new found power she didn't know she had or something like that.

That would be interesting. I wouldn't mind experiencing a major plot twist like that.

Starlight Glimmer has had a few moments where i noticed she was acting a bit off. But that could possibly be just because she is still a little nervous. She hasn't had many proper friends in the past so it would be a bit sad if she betrays twilight. If Starlight teamed up with Trixie, and there was an epic battle between them, then it would be pretty awesome. So i feel 50/50 about this if it did happen. :dash:

First off, doing so would spit in the eye of the very theme of the show, that of friendship. Yes, Discord betrayed his friends, but that was a spur of the moment thing. He may have had ideas, but no intentions of doing so until the offer arose. If Starlight was shown to have been faking it the entire time, then what would that teach kids? "Never become friends with people like her because they'll just betray you in the end?"

To say that Starlight has been faking the entire time would also put everything she's done so far into question, make her reunion with Sunburst pointless and step on every moral for every episode she's appeared in. From a story telling perspective, and a character perspective, to say that's a bad idea would be putting it mildly.

Plus, there's no gain from this. Starlight was winning in The Re-Cutie Mark! Twilight's attempts to restore time had failed dozen of times and Starlight was seconds away from tearing the spell in half, making whatever future occurred permanent. Yet, she gave all this up in some attempt to slowly gain Twilight's trust, just to betray her? Why?

I see no reason for her pretending to be learning about friendship. She seems to genuinely want to change. If anything, this is just another "I hate Starlight Glimmer" thing. I respect your opinion, but understand that Starlight is here to stay,

Yet, she gave all this up in some attempt to slowly gain Twilight's trust, just to betray her? Why?

If I had to guess, I'd say that she suddenly believed Twilight's words about what changing the past would do to the present and had a sudden stroke of self-preservation. So she simply decided to accept Twilight's offer in order to give herself some time to find another way to harm her in a way that would not also do harm to herself.

Anyway, at this point, I think the notion that Starlight could relapse back to evil is a possibility that probably shouldn't be ignored. She has yet to make a single appearance in which her past as a villain wasn't brought up in some way. For whatever reason, she's not allowed to move forward, which I think is highly troubling since there's really nothing to gain from her past being brought up. The only reason I can think of why it continues to hang over her head is because we actually haven't seen the last of Starlight as a villain.

Couple this with the fact that the writers are barely making any attempt to include her within the mane six, and it ultimately just feels like there's a lot of uncertainty where she's concerned.

Starlight turning out to be a villain honestly wouldn't be that impressive, because we've already seen her as a villain in the show.  No, in order to have a Captain Hydra character, Twilight would have to become the villain.

But hey, FiM has a comic series, and one rule of comics as Harvey Dent put it is, 'You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain'.  So who knows?  It could happen if we got a really creative writer in on the show.  Or if they went to the FiM equivalent of Ravenloft.

Seriously though, wouldn't it be interesting if some major thing happened that caused Twilight to turn into a Nightmare form (even if only temporarily)?

I hope it does not come to that...Starlight is my favorite character and if that were the case all of her character development would be  moot.

But...Knowing the writers I wouldn't be surprised if that were to happen...Given the poor writing in season 3 where they made Twilight a princess but didn't foreshadow it.
