Are there episodes you would deem inappropriate for their "target demographic"?

Suppose the " target demographic" is (according to some) ages 3 to 10 or so, if EqG is intended for an older audience. Would you deem any episode of Friendship is Magic inappropriate for children of such an age range? Perhaps (this is strictly my own opinion) Any that elude to outright show war or controversial topics (The Cutie Map, Twilight's Kingdom) in a way that might seem unsettling or cause nightmares (like sucking a character's energy out through them, like a starved succubus, or mind controlling and brainwashing to achieve your agenda of sameness)

No, I think this show's pretty safe.  I don't think anything gets too over-the-top for kids.  Keep in mind that I grew up on shows like Secret of NIMH and Land Before Time.  So I've seen firsthand that kids can usually handle anything in cartoons, as long as there's a happy ending.

Hey @@Nightmare Muffin, your thread title cut off before the question mark, just letting ya know that was fixed. :)

As for the question, I'd say there are a few, such as the Cutie Map or the Cutie Remark. I wouldn't call them inappropriate for children, but they feel more mature compared to the other episodes (like having themes of brainwashing and war).

I don't remember any episodes that are remotely inappropriate. It's a very safe show. They do tackle some more mature topics, but they do it very well.

Honestly, the old MLP show from the 80's was way more intense. Like, there were demons and necromancy and sh**.

OK, it sounds WAY worse than it was when I say it like that, but that show was metal.

...When I think about it, I guess FIM also has some of that stuff too. I mean, Sombra is clearly based off of of Sauron, who was based off of the Devil... so...

...but they do all that in a very kid friendly way.

Nope.  It's all good.  They handle mature topics very well, and I don't think anything in the show would upset children at all.  And I think kids might be a bit more resilient and mature then adults sometimes give them credit for.  They needn't and shouldn't be shielded from everything.  A wholesome show that tackles some mature topics is very healthy and beneficial for children, in my opinion.

Exactly! Some of the mature themes are introduced in such a subtle (and/or sugar-coated) way, the kids don't even grasp them. :)

Like Luna's guilt issues in Do Pricesses Dream of Magis Sheep? That stuff was really relatable for the older audience, but for kids... Nah, I'm pretty sure they were there just for the awesome boss fight.

Not at all, the show is incredibly safe and it handles mature topics fairly well. I watch the show to wind down and it's never given me any sort of intense feelings after a long day at work, which by my standards means it's fine.  Most of the children I babysit have the show marked as one of the "Approved" shows.

Rarity dressed like a Vegas showgirl in Sonic Rainboom was wholly inappropriate.

Seriously though, I do not think the show has ever presented a topic or scene that is unsuitable for a general audience.

Actually, the scariest scene in all of FiM was created by a commercial break.

In Magical Mystery Cure where Twilight got zapped by the elements and all that was left was a cutie mark etched in the ground <cue commercial> THEN ascension.

Behalf of younger viewers, the fight with Tirek may upset or unsettle them. Twilight's treehouse blew up in a inferno and the omnipotent Tirek seeks Twilight's power after stealing everypony's magic. Then again, that's the only episode that I feel like it's a little intense for younger ones.

On the contrary, as long as a show/movie has a happy ending and no R, or hard PG-13 content, it is okay for children. Even if that was to intense for children (it isn't, are you one of those people who think any action scene is to intense for children?), it would't matter because that scene was awesome for us adults and teenagers. Besides, there has been way worse stuff in the show...

I love that scene like any true fan and it's just pure awesome. It's just might seem out of place for an anime comparable fight scene in a show like MLP and doing so is a nod to the fandom and not to younger viewers. It's true that the show covers more mature/older material and to younger viewers that may go over their heads.

EqG stands for Equestria girls right? If it does, then what? I think EqG was definitely meant for an younger audience. They spent no time on the plot, and just took all the high school movie cliches and threw the MLP character into it. It's only purpose was to sell toys. That is it. Even the people who like EqG have to admit that it's only purpose originally was to sell toys.

Anything that has to do with Spike, for any reason, both logical and illogical, and no matter how unreasonable it is.

I should mention I don't care for Spike.

so because of your bias, All Spike episodes are inappropriate for your 3-10 year old nephew, cousin, etc? (Someone else besides you)

a one time basis on both occasions is a lifestyle?

We have no idea what happens between episodes. He could be running a underground ring and we would have no idea. He's Twilight's assistant. Someone with connections to a princess makes PLENTY of connections.

We can't confirm nor deny that Spike hasn't killed anyone for trying to expose him.
