Unicorns put the rings on their horns.  Earth ponies have another item and Pegasus' have another item as well.  It could be that only unicorns have rings.

I've been wondering about this also ever since I saw A Canterlot Wedding parts 1 and 2.  What I always thought was this, they wear the rings just for the wedding, and then put them on display in their homes for everyone to see.  For Earth Ponies and Pegasi, they might have something different, since they don't have a horn to wear a ring on.  They might have a necklace, tiara, hat, etc.  Who knows, maybe even Pegasi wear rings, but only on their wings.

If they did, we'd see rings appearing somewhere on other pony couples who are already married, however, we do not. I think it's safe to assume they do not have them at all.

 

Maybe they have The Ring 2 though.

That was something on my mind to after thinking about the episode. The only thing I could come up with is maybe earth ponies and pegasus have different types of marriage and don't use rings. It's only a unicorn thing. So maybe they have something else to show their marriage. Maybe a pendent, or some other thing. Only an idea.

Honestly I have no idea. I'm pretty sure that the rings, well, maybe they are supposed to be bought with a necklace and just put the two together and wear it on the neck.

Maybe ponies just wear their rings for their weddings day, or whatever symbol they wear when getting married, but then don't wear it again.

 

To be fair Cadence nor Shinning Armor are ever seen with their rings after their wedding.

 

So its possible the other ponies get a ring, or something, and just don't wear it after the wedding day.

 

Either that or they just don't get anything.

 

I feel like they must get something, I just can't picture them getting nothing in the wedding. Especially if we know Unicorns get rings. They just don't wear them after their weddings.

Makes sense when you think about Hearth's Warming Eve, too. Unicorns, being obsessed with gems and precious metals (and having appendages on which you can wear rings) would give them as tokens. The more warlike Pegasi would give tokens showing their bravery and toughness by plucking out a feather. And the gentle Earth pony farmers would give the symbol of rebirth and beauty.

Rings are made for humans to wear them on their fingers. And the writers decided that this would go on the horn of the unicorns.

And since a hoof a bunch of fingers merged together (evolution), it could just be a bracelet.

How would that even work? Either those are some massive rings, more like hula hoops, or the rings magically shrink around their wings.

 

I believe that Pegasi would probably just wear bracelets or a necklace too.

Interesting, if I'm correct, they must wear either a bracelet or a necklace since it can't be equiped to a non unicorn.

 

Other than that, it makes sense.
