Spoiler

So, I would like to point something out. In Shadow Play, Part 1, Twilight points out how Limbo works. But how exactly does she know? She couldn't have been in limbo, and to write a book on it, you'd have to go there and back.

Maybe she magically learned it?

It's farfetched to say this is just a 'fact Twilight knows'.
Because you have to EXPERIENCE a fact to learn it. She didn't learn a spell for nor go to limbo.

Not really. In theoretical science, it all hinges on observing pre-existing trends to predict how something that cannot be tested might act.

Assuming no one HAS been able to truly study limbo and how it works, Twilight might have still read up on theories pertaining to it.

It’s a joke.

I like how not once in this episode, Twilight didn't consider that the Pony of Shadows was in a limbo spell she wanted to undo.
She could've been like, "Oh, huh. If I undo this spell, the Pony of Shadows  might return."
Anyone wanna explain why NOT ONCE THIS WAS HINTED?! Aside from Starlight mentioning with common sense how they shouldn't undo the spell.
There's a reason there's a difference in 'imprisoned themselves' and 'sacrificed themselves.'

Twilight: Oh hey... if I undo this Limbo spell the Pony Of Shadows may come back as well, and that would suck horse apples. OK sorry pillars, your just going to have to stay trapped. Oh wow... we still have 15 minutes in this episode and 23 in the next. Hmmm, I guess we can get Pinkie Pie to do stand up... or better yet... Conway Twitty... it worked for Family Guy!

As for how Twilight knows... she read it in a book. No one has died and gone to heaven here and come back and told us about it, but the best selling book in the world is happy to tell us all about it. So yeah... when you can't make the trip yourself, write about it with authority.

I mean, all these years, and you didn't even worry about Starswirl's disappearance. All cuz of a stupid book you suddenly started fangirling over him. Didn't help he turned out to be a salty dick, now did it? (I admit it's because she undid the spell, but still.)

It is just like with black holes. We can't go there by ourselfs, but we know that they are there and what they can do. I assume Twilight did the same thing with Limbo. It could also be that Discord helped her out. He is after all the master of switching dimensions. :dash:

@Loyal Defender

But the Crystal Empire disappeared off the face of Wherever Equestria is for 1000 years and to the Crystal Ponies, it was they were in frozen statis for over 1000 years and it felt like yesterday they were still there. Just like Limbo. Just replace Sombra with Pony of Shadows.

A.J. in the war timeline even said when the Crystal Empire returned it brought Sombra with it.

Wasn't Twilight Sparkle in limbo for a bit before she became an Alicorn during Magical Mystery Cure?

In a way, she might have. Valid idea.

My guess is that the crystal empire was brought to limbo for that thousand years. With the residual magic coming off of it, Twilight could probably with some help of our three other alicorns and discord anylize it. This would allow a way to trace and connect dots.

Maybe because she was excited at the prospect of resuscitating the guy who literally got her as invested into magic as she is?

Twilight isn't infallible. It's demonstrated in past episodes that Twilight can have a bit of a tunnel-vision when she focuses on a certain thing too much - it's actually where a lot of her neuroses stems from. Lesson Zero literally happened, for instance, because she focused so obsessively on the fact that she would be tardy that she didn't consider how irrational it would be for Celestia to send her back to Magic Kindergarten for failing a friendship lesson of all things.

Theories, though, unless they're PROVEN theories.

That's not how theories work in science.

Theories are not facts that you can prove. They aren't the same thing. A theory is a well-substantiated explanation for a collection of facts that exhibit a pattern.

She fangirled over him as early as Luna Eclipsed, which was in season 2.

I thought it was implied she read about it Starswirl’s notes. She was talking about what she learned in his journal when she brought up what happened to the pillars.

Didnt she smack AJ in the face with the book right before bringing up Limbo?

Maybe she read "Visions of Heaven and Hell".

All of right-thinking humanity is on my side. Sandwiches are meant to be cut in half. You would never, unless under extreme duress or madness cut a hot dog in half. Picture yourself at a ball park, or even at a restaurant, cutting a hot dog and you will feel an instinctive, entire repulsion at the very thought of it. You can get a soup with a half sandwich, but you’d never serve a half hot dog with a soup. It’s the equivalent of cutting a pizza with a knife and fork. Pashman says anything “sandwiched is a sandwich.” He’s using the derivative verb to describe the sandwich, so he is proving the premise with itself; it is a complete logical fallacy. I hope they’ll openly boo him.
