general media Do you like happy or sad stories?

When it comes to movies, series, fanfics, books, etc, what do you prefer: light and happy or dark and grim stories? Or you like it in the middle?

For me, I love dark, grim and philosophical stories and (this might sound wrong) I like stories with suffering. Not physically but mental, you know that kind of stories when the main hero slowly loses his mind, can't distinguish reality from hallucinations, everything is so abstract and philosophical, etc. Such stories are my favorite (that's why I'll never be tired of mentioning my favorite Background Pony:wub:)

Also I noticed recently that I feel almost nothing for light stories with happy ends because they feel so unrealistic, good guys never sacrifice/lose anything, no balance. Like FiM, afair the only thing mane 6 lost is Twi's library (and got the whole castle instead). I know that such light-hearted things are created to run away from cruel reality (and for kids), but I guess I don't really want to run away from it:huh:

Anyway, it was my opinion, I'd love to read yours!

When it comes to my series I prefer a happy cute ending but movies are allowed to be dark UwU

it depends on my mood. Sometimes i can't stand depressing movies or the ones that preach some kind of philosophy, sometimes I just want a nice escapist dream where everyone lived happily ever after. Other times I can't stand the happy ever afters and i need a movie that makes me want to not live in this plane of existence any more because it's so true it hurts.

It depends. Either way, both must be at least good.

My favorite books are ones where the character mostly goes through some hardships to obtain a goal or is in a survival situation, so there are sad events along the way and things improve by the end but they're rarely better off than they were at the start,,,

Call me pessimistic, but I prefer sad endings since they’re more realistic.

I almost started to think I'm the only one here who prefer sad endings. I find the much more emotional

Like happy, feel-good stories. Nowadays a lot of people seems to love sad stories too much, they just come off complete downers that just come off as trying too hard to be artsy

difficult to answer, probably both depends on the mood. I read a lot of different stories and stories on studydriver.com, regardless of whether they are funny or sad, I just go to the topics that interest me, that's all. But nevertheless, if you conduct statistics, then more often there are funny stories, because even if the mood is bad, then you want to improve it
