[S3 Spoilers] Do you think Twilight's becoming way too powerful?

Clarity

Recommended Posts

Before you comment, know that I'm not trying to bash Twilight in any way.

But...don't you guys think she's becoming a little bit too powerful?

I mean, she can conjure wings, teleport herself and other ponies LONG distance, levitate things well, and now she can change the laws of gravity, use dark magic, and even turn full-grown mares into temporary fillies (as seen in the upcoming Trixie episode commercial).

That's...like, a bit too powerful, I think. She had limits in the sixth episode, but now she seemed to be able to conjure magic without breaking a sweat.

Discuss.

Haven't you heard? When the show hits the Seventh episode in Season 4 Twilight Becomes powerful than Celestia and takes over Equestria. She will evolve into an Alicorn and massacre hundreds of ponies after they protest against her!

It has been told in my Fanfiction.

even turn full-grown mares into temporary fillies

What proof do you have that it was Twilight who managed to do that? It could've easily been Trixie who did it thanks to that new Sombra-like necklace of hers!

Um...I watched the commercial? Duh...? It was shown that she turned them into fillies, not Trixie like it was previously believed.

Eh I guess she is growing in power quite fast. but at the same time it does add to twilight in a way. i just hope that it doesn't become to the point where they have to do some kinda dragon ball Z thing where they just keep getting more ridiculous till its crazy(I don't have DBZ just saying)

She is the element of magic so idk :P

it doesn't bother me that much tbh. I guess she is getting quite powerful though.

Nope. As long as the villains and obstacles she faces don't just become ridiculously simple due to her advancement in magic, and they occasionally continue to show limitations of some kind as she goes along, it doesn't bother me. She's the princess's prized pupil, an avid learner and a prodigy, to me it seems natural she's progressing so fast. The gravity spell is an example of this. As for the dark magic, it caused her great strain to even do one zap, and that's because she hasn't actually learned, practiced and mastered black magic yet, she just saw the princess do it, and strained herself to be able to do her best mimicry of it.

So, no. I don't think so.

Well I do think she is becoming a little over powerful, but remeber, it's only been one episode, there is not telling what might happen between now and say some later episodes. She could lose all her power or something. But for the time being she is a little overpowerd, it seems more powerful that Celestia at times, but I guess that could be expected from the "Main character"(Notice the air quotes there...). It would be nice for them to either limit her some, or make the other characters as well a little more powerful.

If I like something or someone a certain way, I prefer they not change if possible. That's how I feel about Twilight. I have no problem with her being skilled at magic, but not become some powerful goddess like Celestia. I like her better as one of the Mane 6, with her magic enhancing thier friendship, but not setting her apart and making her untouchable.

Not really. She is the element of magic. You said she can make wings but that's not entirely correct. She can't make actual pegasus wings, she can make a makeshift wing though. These wings have a huge flaw though. They are fragile. This is incredibly dangerous thing to have.

The other stuff is, like I said, she is the element of magic.

I don't have a problem with powering up Twilight, not if they power up her friends accordingly. My issue it that even though Twilight has always been the "main" character they seem to be ramping up her importance relative to the rest of the 6. This I wholeheartedly disapprove of. I miss the Discord episode, where it was clear that ALL of them were equally necessary to save Equestria. Now it's all like

" Ok guys, make some baskets and pass out some horns, Spike and I'll go take down the psycho dark lord. Oh, but don't worry about us, cause we don't need you"

It just rubs me the wrong way.

I'm thinking she's not too powerful yet. All these spells she used are ones she's learned and she even mentions that she practised them (with exception of dark magic). Also remember that these spells were only used on her and spike at most within season 3 so far. I know she gave Rarity wings which was very difficult and made the others walk on cloud but we saw her what is possibly after hours of recovery.

So I'm thinking if she tried to use her powers too much she would suffer from the strain. And as has been mentioned its only the first few episodes in more will bne shown of it I'm sure.

I'm actually more worried about her totally overshadowing the others.

Wait until she dies fighting her older sister from outer space. Then we'll see her train for a year with Kaio-sama in the afterlife.

So long as the power scale is fairly well distributed---and Twilight never gets to a point where her friends are basically a formality---then I haven't any problem with her increased abilities.

I apologize if I mention anything that's already been brought up but I wanted to leave my input here without reading too many spoilers.

With that aside, no, I really don't think Twilight is becoming too powerful. Not only is she the main main character, she represents the element of magic and has learned all the spells she has used previously on fair terms.

The only way it might bother me a bit is if she just randomly became a lot more powerful. Heck, she could become invincible and it wouldn't bother me as long as she learned how to do so fairly

Well it makes seines, I mean she is the element of magic and her ability is magic. So it's understandable that her magic would grow stronger and she would be able to do more things with out to many problems. Also Twilight practices everyday. So if you practice on something you well get better and better at it.

Also I am not sure she is the one who turned her friends into foals. I have seen the commercial, but the two seances don't mach up to well. It looks more like Twilight was photo shop in that part. Still we don't know yet what has happened so we well just have to wait and see.

Egh.. I think Twilight might be a tad too powerful for her role in the show. I know we're supposed to show improvement (which even with the lessons EVERY PONY has resisted) But it seems like she progressed very quickly in The first few episodes of this season. I can't speak for the episodes that haven't come out yet, but being that she STARTED with the ability to ward off a celestial bear, (and originally has the ability to channel large amounts of magic into little Spike when he was hatched...) she's always HAD alot of power. It's just never been necessary until this recent episode to really SHOW it.

My mind immediately went to Skrillex on that one...

Back OT: She has a lot of power, but that doesn't necessarily mean that she's too powerful; She IS the Element of Magic, after all.

I personally think that it's less of becoming too powerful, and more of her honing her skills and developing as a character, It fits with the theme of sending letters to Celestia (a princess/goddess that taught Twilight magic) and having gone to make friends in the first place.

But to finish off this sh*t sandwich, AJ is best pony.

Well I simply see it as a natural progression in the show's overarching story-arc. Twilight, as she grows older and progresses in her studies, is inevitably going to become more powerful in wielding her magic, especially if she has as much potential as Celestia and Luna seem to think she does. However, I will say that she could come to a point soon where she might easily abuse that power, especially now that she's taken her first steps into learning about dark magic. Mind you, I did not originate this idea, that credit goes to Chaotic Discord, I'm simply borrowing his idea that Twilight might become corrupted in some future episode by mishandling dark magic simply because I liked it a lot. But, coming back to your original question Clarity, do I think Twilight's too powerful? No, not at all; I'd say we've seen her quite steadily progressing in her magical abilities since the show started, so the amount of ability she displayed in the season opener wasn't all that surprising to me.

Here's my thinking...perhaps they were ramping up Twilight's powers rapidly just in case Season 3 was going to be the last one. Season 4 hasn't been ordered yet, but it's early and this show is too successful to wrap up now. I think Twilight's progress will slow and meet with some adversity this season, and not just in the next duel with Trixie. And even if Twilight Sparkle were to become the most powerful magician in Equestria, she still has her quirks and insecurities. She gets hung up on little points and often misses the big picture. In other words, it'll still be a long time before she's Equestria's equivalent of Superman or Optimus Prime.

And I don't even like the term Mary Sue...that name must be 100 years old.

I think this may be leading to Twilight overthrowing Celestia. I mean, what if Celestia is corrupted by black magic? She would be too powerful, so we need somepony who could stand against her.

Imagine a final showdown between Twilight and Celestia. It might happen!

She has ALWAYS been OP. Have you not seen the cutie mark filly episode? She was powerful enough to not only hatch a dragon egg, but transmute all of the onlookers into various objects as well as age a baby dragon to a full grown dragon in a matter of seconds. I do not think she has done anything that OP since then, but she has always been OP. Edited by Bronynonymous

I think Twilight has been kinda overpowered from the start first off she was going beserk and had uncontrollable magic as a filly. Her magic can also mind rape almost everyone with her "Want it Need It" spell. She can also use dark magic at a young age (You would think it took years for Celestia and Luna to learn Dark Magic but Twilight learns it in like a day) She could proprably take on and beat Celestia if she really wanted to but obviously not since she is so loyal to her.

EDIT: Oh yeah she can also Spam teleport

I have to sort of agree with what your saying. My biggest fear is that soon she'll become way too powerful. She still does have her quirks, and I don't think any amount of magic can fix those, but I do think that in time she'll have to regress in some way.
