What do you think of Tumblr?

The only time I've ever really used it was to read the blog of my cousin who was in China for 6 weeks.

I never really go on it. I don't even really understand it. Is it supposed to e a blog? An image sharing website? Both?

I follow several Tumblrs. However, I cannot say that it's my favorite blogging system. The default settings are not exactly user-friendly if you're wanting to go through archives, which I spend a lot of time in.

I basically wish that Tumblr, YouTube, DeviantArt, and this forum itself were more... integrateable? Maybe that's the direction Ponyverse is going, but I don't know.

Why wouldn't people like tumblr? There's some good stuff there! Like the lovestruck derpy tumblr and my favorite.. ask-thecrusaders.tumblr.com. And there's these things that I think of when I think of tumblr. http://www.memecenter.com/fun/1885977/tumblr-stuff-3

Oh tumblr.

Ooohhh man do I love Tumblr. I've made a few friends on there, and there is some truly amazing content on there. I love being able to discuss fandoms and stuff. Like really, I know zero Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Firefly fans, but I've met quite a few on Tumblr and it's great to be able to talk about these shows, when before I was just sort of geeking out on my own. Also it's a really great place for me to vent.

As for people wondering how to get followers and traffic, it mostly takes time and dedication. I only have 49 followers, so I may not be the best to give advice, but I think I've been growing pretty rapidly lately. Basically you have to tag all of your posts. Make sure their relevant tags though, otherwise you're just being a douche. That way people searching for whatever you're posting will find your posts. Second you have to be consistent in your posting. If you only make a few posts a day, or post a ton a few days of the week, you're not going to attract a lot of followers because you're not being very active, and you're not being consistently active. Third get in on some promos! Larger blogs will often host promos for fledgling blogs. These often come in the form of contests for best URL, best theme, best content etc., or they will come in things like "first 20 to reblog get's a promo!" Fourth aesthetic is really important. If people see a post and decide to check out your blog and you have an exceptionally common or horrendous theme, they will probably just navigate away from your blog. Sort of tied into is is URL. If you make your URL like a username like jackw545, people won't be attracted to it. Try to base your URL on your interests or what kind of things you post. Mine is assortedgeekerys for reference and a few of my favorite blogs URLs: queen-of-worlds-that-dont-exist, flutter-dashie, angry-tardis-noises, hyruliandumbass and thelizardwomenfromthedawnoftime.

AND shameless self plug time! assortedgeekerys.tumblr.com. If I were forced to classify my blog, I'd say multifandom, but I mostly reblog anything I like. The fandoms I post are MLP (of course), Sherlock, Doctor Who, Harry Potter, Supernatural, Buffy/Angel, Firefly, The Mortal Instruments and LoTR. There are tons more but I don't want to bore you with the long list of them.

I really like the site, but I haven't quite figured out how I can use it or drive any traffic to me using it. All the users I follow on it usually post or repost art from others, but that's not really my thing. Anyone got any pointers?

Tag everything. Put as many tags on whatever you are posting that relate to it. A lot of the time people will do searches on there and if they search for a phrase that you put in the tags (mlp, mlp:fim ect.) then they will find your post.

I guess I should put up my tumblr

I have one. Don't use it. Too confusing, but, however, my friend has one and is obsessed with it and shows me some FUNNY things on there. So, I guess it has a lot of funny stuff? I don't know, if I do use it more, It wouldn't be confusing to me, but I really don't care much about it. I don't even care about Facebook, Twitter, etc, even though I have those too. I feel like MLP forums is the only thing that interests me, but sometimes I don't have time to get on it anymore...I try though xD

While it may not be the best blogging post on the web, it's pretty good for most of the times.

I usually enjoy what kind of art, jokes, and animations they re blog most of the times.

My favorite part has to be the ask blogs towards ponies like filly rarity.

Would you say it was good for posting articles though? I'd like to use it to post some written articles (I use it right now to promote my YouTube videos and have somewhere people can ASK and SUBMIT stuff to me. But I'd also like to post written stuff there (ie game reviews) and then when I have my own website I'll try and transfer all my written posts on Tumblr to my site.

I go on there just for fan-art.  I don't have one myself and it can be pretty annoying browsing on there because it keeps asking me to make an account if I want to browse more or see certain posts...

It's a great repository for art and funny moments but many of the ones worth following for their artwork don't just post artwork and if they do they don't tag any of their crap so you can filter out all of the crap and jump to the good stuff.

Tumblr is my mothership.

I follow a variety of blogs and I think that's what I like about it- variety. I don't really blog much of my own stuff but I love reblogging stuff I like or agree with and finding some neat stuff.

Anyone know how to get people to follow your Tumblr? I still don't understand how it works. This is my own tumblr btw I think I have like 3 followers right now :( http://comicconreviews.tumblr.com/

It's the same with YouTube and subscribers really. There isn't a secret to getting people to follow you, it just happens if people like what you've got. So really with Tumblr, you've just got to be smart with the tags so people can find your posts.

It's overrated. And I think it's pretty lame how you can't leave comments or even dislike when someone says something you just can't cosign with.

You can leave comments, actually. You just gotta reblog it. It annoyed me at first, but thinking about it, I actually kinda prefer it this way. It means that there's less spam.

"dislike" features are unnecessary for things like Tumblr/Facebook/Twitter. If you don't like it, then don't hit the like button brah. :0

That's never good enough. Now keep in mind, I won't dislike someone having a different opinion than me, I'd dislike the hate speech, I'd dislike the douchebaggery. There's a lot of things on Facebook for example that deserve no mercy.

I understand.

Personally, I just can't be arsed with stuff like that. Even with websites that do have "dislike" buttons like Youtube, I rarely click it. I'm more interested in liking videos that I love, then disliking ones that I hate.

I like Tumblr, I get to see all the art a person makes as well as follow entertaining little stories and ask tumblrs. There's a very close relationship between different tumblrs and that's what makes it so great, the fact that everyone is close. Plus there's plenty of news on tumblr so I always manage to stay on top of gaming trivia.

I have one problem with it though, and that's the amount of reposts, I don't give a damn about reposts and having my page clogged full with them is something I DON'T want.

Reblogging is the reason why my news feed is just an endless stream of Doctor Who gifs

I've only ever reblogged once. AM I A GOOD BLOGGER?

Yeah, people share opinions and eventually reblog them for everyone to see like ideas and facts of Did you know gaming.

I say yeah, but I just usually watch, reblog, and enjoy whatever I see there.
