music Why do so many people hate on country music?

I'll say why I don't like country, personally. Sure there's a couple of actually pretty decent country songs like "Country Roads".

Are you referring to "Take Me Home, Country Roads", by John Denver? The funny thing is that I think that song and John Denver in general is much more folk than country. I get that he has a country "edge" and that some songs are closer to country than others, but Country Roads and many of the other songs I love by him (Annie's Song, Starwood in Aspen, Rhymes and Reasons) are much more on the folk side.

Yeah I'm referring to that one. It's technically a Country song but it has charm that other Country songs lack. But that's probably because as you say it is more of a Folk song. I didn't remember the whole name off-hand.

Because it is easy to hate on. Why do people hate on Fortnite? Because it's incredibly popular and people usually seem to have an affront to something that is everywhere.

I couldn't tell you, but if I were to guess, I'd assume because it's of the negative stimga that surrounds it. It's easy to bash.

At first I rejected the zero, but that was because I simply didn't understand it. Now I do.

Because, at least to me, for the longest time now it has all been soulless trash and hilariously identical. Like battle royale video games. Country music often relies on the exact same chords, the same rhythm, the same subjects, all to give a sense of "I'm relatable!". Like when some idiot like Brad Paisley sings about "working on the farm and simple country life yeah" while they live in some mansion with hundreds of millions in money. Oh sure, it might give tons of middle class people something to latch onto as the lyrics are a reflection of their middle class life, but the person making the 'music' is as corporate as one could get. The music is pathetically safe, never innovative, never questioning the status quo, never challenging anyone to think. Sums up America pretty well actually. So I guess the music has some kind of purpose, to be a reflection on what America truly is. Corporate, shallow, conforming, exploitative.

So if it's easy to hate on, that must also mean from my experiences the criticisms are easy to bury.

The country music they play nowadays is just bad pop.

For those who dismiss country music as “hick trash” and have zero respect for it, I pity you because you clearly know nothing about country music’s history. It moulded many of the sounds you know today.

And that’s the bottom line, ‘cause Stone Cold said so!

Personally I like the twanginess of country music and the fact that the banjo is quite a unique piece of musical instrument. It’s all about preferences and tastes, and according to my tastes and preferences I have no problems with the twanginess of country music. As for the rest of them, it’s more of a hit and miss. Some of them sound offensive like the Peter Coyote song aptly named No C:mlp_yay:k like Horse :mlp_yay:k (No I’m not putting that song here) which gives country music a bad influence to societyWhile others are good like King of The Hill theme song. Plus it’s so catchy and gets stuck in my ears for weeks. You can’t escape the twang.

Probably because it's too gimmicky. The subject matter, the twang in your voice, the melodies, they're all limiting factors that don't allow for much variety.

Well I guess it's official. We're now on facebook. I really wuddn't sure about this at the start, but then a friend of mine said something that just made all kinds of sense. She said, "think of it more as a conversation" I like that.

But I'm already finding out on my own, it's that it's wiping away the walls between you and me. And I really like that. It allows us into each other's worlds, or I guess in my case, a hotel room. When I think about things I wanna post, I wanna post cool stuff, slick stuff, neat stuff. But most of the stuff Im gonna post is gonna be raw stuff, like this. Cause it's just who I am.

So if this is truly a conversation, then I say, let the conversation begin.

I love country music, it's most modern country music that annoys me, and in my humble opinion there are still a lot of lesser known yet very good artists out there!

Still good and meaningful country out there, you just wont find it on the mainstream radio.

I don't like country because it usually has something do do with love, beer, jesus and trucks with jesus beer and lovemaking in. I don't like the pedal steel guitar as a main instrument. I don't like it when it has distorted "rock-like" guitar. I don't care for Johnny Cash and the like. I don't care for the banjo nor most bluegrass instruments. The sounds go into my brain, my brain goes "nope" and generates anti-good.

WAIT, how can you dislike Johnny? His music is FILLED with meaning and stories from times of past! :pistachio:

Here's what I don't understand: a lot of people have been naming the subjects of country music as why they don't like it, but is that really a problem?

Someone can always put a new twist on an old subject, and if country artists want to talk about beers, girls, and trucks, I see no problem as long as they keep it fresh and provide new sounds and new lyrics that I can get down to.

Like I said earlier in this topic, I know next to nothing about country, but the same logic could technically be applied to all genres if you just listened to songs on the radio. I mean, how many rock songs are about love, especially love gone wrong? Or sex?

If I listened to the radio, a huge amount I bet.

Look later in this thread, I posted some "less popular" Indie country, and it's excellent!

Because it's usually watered down rock with absolutely no talent, no substance and no redeeming value. It's the southern version of really shitty pop music.

However, some good country does exist. Check out Blackberry Smoke. Super good and I rather like it. And I hate country.

Also Chris Knight, Turnpike Trbadours, Ryan Bingham, chris knight etc, ell amazing and for some reason you wont here them all on the radio.

As a Texan, it may surprise you that I dislike country music.

It's annoying, and all the songs sound the same. It's just kinda stupid.

I mean, I listened to Taylor Swift back when she actually was a country artist and that was actually good. That's the closest I've ever gotten.

Nope. I don't dislike it because it's popular (which I don't really think it is - as I've said before, country is a love it or hate it genre), and cool to hate. I dislike it because I personally find that the music is a real drag to listen to. The vocals, the instrumentation. Something about it just doesn't work and irritates the heck out of me. Country music is either irritable, or it is just straight-up depressing. And I mean depressing in an actual chemical sense. I actually like music that is unhappy (a lot of the British Folk I listen to is just misery personified in song form) but country music that is depressing, is like depressing to the level that it brings me down on a psychological level and makes me function less.
