I think it's cute to refer to a character as "X pone", where X is one of their characteristics (Pink pone, shy pone, etc.). There are certain situations where "poni" is fun to use, such as "best poni".

Ekwos. It's proto-Gaelic. Going through ancient Gaulish it became epwos, which was Latinized into epona, and eventually pony.

 

Of course going another way, it went into Greek as equus, which was Latinized into equinus, and eventually equine.

 

Or through the Proto-Germanic, becoming ehrusa, then Norse hross, from where we get horse.

 

So, I go back to the correct, original spelling. Ekwos.

*P*O*N*Y* is literally the only way to spell pony. There is nothing trendy or cute about varying it. Spelling pony any other way makes the writer look like an idiot.
