What is a true friend?

A true friend is someone who you'd sacrifice your life for and they'd sacrifice their life for you. Thus only if you deem them worthy to live instead of you. And I'd only sacrifice my life for someone who I like a lot. Now liking comes in many ways. Either he has the qualities of a good person (trustworthy, caring etc) or we share common interests or stuff like that. I don't believe I have a single true friend

A friend is an illusion. A true friend, is reality. You see, friends are compannions/accuantances. They are the people that you can enjoy to be around. You might laugh, or play, or share your secrets, but in the end, they can't help you when you need it most. A friend may fail you. They may hurt you. They may even leave you, leaving you with a scar in the heart. Not all friends are true to you.

However, a true friend is different. A true friend is someone who you can share a smile with, and be with for comfort. You can come to them when you need a sholder to cry on. They will take time out of their lifes to help you with yours if needed. A true friend will stand by your side until the end. If the situation were to come up, a true friend will die for you. They will take their life in order to let you have your own. A true friend is almost like true love. Because it is still love, but a different kind. When you fall, a true friend will pick you up.

All you have to do is open your eyes. They are out there. Look at the people you have now. Will they die for you? Will they be their for you, even if they want to be elsewhere, but they care enough about you to give up that other thing? Because a true friend will.
I don't know who said it, but "Friends are people who know everything about you, and like you anyways." Well, to me. A true friend is someone who knows everything about you, and shares the experience of who you are with you. That's what a true friend is to me.

Someone that is ALWAYS looking out for your BEST interest, even when you can't see it, because they know you better than you know yourself, and they are your second pair of eyes. To see past the mistakes you have made, and to be there to keep you from making them again. That can be there to show you tough love, but will always be there to show you love none the less. Someone you can trust with your life, and should feel safe doing so because they hold your life in higher regards than you do yourself. Someone that looks to you when they need support, and someone that you will know is your true friend when you are to consider them a priority rather than a distraction or bad influence. A friend will be there to make mistakes with you, but he is also the one there that learns from those mistakes, the ones that see you as just a charcter in their story, to get the things that THEY want, aren't your friends, and they would see you make the same mistake every day of your life, if it meant getting ahead for one day in their life.

What is a true friend that is a big question well for me a true friend never back stabs you and is always there for you when you need help. now tell me what your idea of a true friend is?

Hm, I find the "always" part to be stretching it a bit. The thing is, there are times when your friends just aren't going to be available and that their immediate tasks may outweigh your immediate needs or because they have good reasons not to be available at a given time. Even good parents can't be there for their children every second of every day of every month of every year. Once in a while they too need rest because being someone who tried to be there for some very troubled folks, I can tell you it really drains you. This is why I am respectful if a friend tells me that he or she cannot really talk about something bothering me at a given moment because I myself would not recommend anyone force themselves to support someone they the person trying to do the supporting is already shaking in one's boots out of, namely, exhaustion.

 

One part I very definitely agree upon is never backstabbing nor breaking someone's trust. True friends are people you can be vulnerable to where they will always be honest with you but still avoid being hurtful. Sometimes a bit of tough love is necessary but at the end of the day, you know and understand that they did that to try and get you to realize if you did something objectionable or if you're being stubborn. But never will they shut the door in your face.

I think a true friend is someone who really has stuck with you through thick and thin, someone who's been your friend for so many years, especially childhood friends. A true friend is someone who never talks crap behind your back and who would choose your side over anyone else's. A true friend is also when you get into arguments, but still don't stop being friends. There is those people who fight and be like "We aren't friends no more" and a week later, they're friends. Obviously, you were still friends. 

 

I have my best friend who's been my friend since I was 8. She truly has stuck with me and we not ONCE almost stopped being friends or she's never talked crap and always been there and I can trust her with my life and rely on her whenever.
