  1. True. What seems strange to me is that apparently they are all in the same class yet never noticed. This bring forth a few questions. Are there more than one class in Ponyville's school? If so how does that work as it seems Cheerilee is the only instructor? Is she the only instructor? In the end these don't really matter but it is something that went through my head.
  2. Im not really sure why MMM has people so confused about cutie marks. I think they went out of their way to state that the cutie marks weren't the only thing switched, their destinies were switched through the elements of harmony. Their entire life paths were switched which is made evident by the fact that they switched pretty much everything save for their core personalities. This included memories, living spaces, and cutie marks. The elements switched a heck of a lot more than the cutie marks. So why the focus on them? Well as has been very firmly established a cutie mark is a huge part in a pony's self identity. Gaining one is a huge exciting event of self discovery worthy of celebration. It is shown to be more than just finding something you enjoy doing. It seems to correlate with your very essence and place in the world. A cutie mark doesn't govern what the pony does. Barring powerful magical spells/potions they come about when the pony has discovered what they are meant to do. The cutie mark is a major affirmation of their discovery, an image for all to see. Of coarse the cutie mark is hugely, irrevocably connected to the major events in the pony's life it would have to be. So with that said I think the cutie mark is more complicated than people think it is, just look at Twilight's. It should be mentioned that background pony's cutie marks wont be as well thought out(if at all) and there will be weird ones. This is of coarse because the background ponies are just put there to fill out the scene. So your gonna get weird cutie marks like Derpy's.
  3. How about the first two together? After all friendship is magic. Twilight's talent was and is magic. This was represented by her cutie mark which had on it five stars. Those stars represented her friends. She received her cutie mark as the result of them all being connected for a brief time in Cutie Mark Chronicles. The show has shown there is a huge and now inseparable connection between her aptitude for magic and her aptitude for friendship. It is shown in how she got her cutie mark, in her cutie mark, and in her very actions.
  4. You forgot friendship which is magic. To answer the question none of them is most important. We should all strive to use all of these qualities in real life. After all isnt that the message of the show? Friendship is magic, that magic is represented by the elements of harmony and channeled through twilight. It has been shown that without them working in harmony that that magic is unable to manifest. In the real life case you should be using all of these qualities to better your friendship. All of the elements are important no one is the most important thing to a relationship, one should strive to have all these qualities. Are you going to be better at some than others? Of course, but again I think all are needed.
  5. I cant wait for scientists to conclusively agree that plants are in some way conscious. Then these particular vegetarians will be forcibly kicked off their moral high horses. What will they do then? Not eat? As others have said you have to kill to eat it is necessary.
  6. I don't think you need at all to even point out that this was originally intended to be the series finale For one it gets into unknown production factors. I think you should instead be focusing on the content in the actual show. There are factors in the actual show you could point that lead to this moment. Arguments can and have been made for why this is a good thing and how well the show had led to it.
  7. Considering how she sang a song about how she gleefully tricked someone into marrying her that she didn't love and merely intended to use as a tool. With the intention of also conquering and using the entire population in the same manner. Whilst also stating that she had literally dreamed of that moment since she was a child. Yeah Im thinking redemption pretty unlikely. She is pretty darn evil, one of the scariest kinds of evil. The kind that lurks in front of your face and only reveals itself when its too late.
  8. First of all I was blown away by Celestia's Ballad it was unexpected and beautiful. I really enjoyed the presentation of twilight's past and the loving tone of the song, it genuinely touched me and still does. When the transformation happened I was just thinking on how well done the sequence was. The hair blowing and swirling energy that emerged from twilight was reminiscent of a Disney sequence.
  9. GAAAHHHHHH!!!! I cant decide! I cant! In a show where 80%-90% of the entire cast of characters is made up of incredibly cute pony you ask us to pick one? How am I to do this? Ok Ill let fate decide Ill click with my eyes closed. Twilight it landed on twilight there.
  10. My number one desired future episode would be one where we get to see Luna and Celestia's relationship. I love everything we have seen from them thus far both are wise and kind, but they each have distinct differences. Celestia seems a bit more easy going and less formal, but when things get serious so does she. Luna seems the opposite a bit more serious most of the time, but when you get her in the right social setting you can bring out her fun side. Considering Twilight is now an alicorn we actually have a bridging point that can make it so we can see their pasts. Now the writers can explore them without turning completely away from twilight and the main six. It seems more likely to me that we may very well learn more about them in season four. Imagine Cutie Mark Chronicles except switch the cutie marks out for alicorn hood. Celestia, Luna, and Cadence all relay how they became alicorns to Twilight and give her advice on what it means to be a princess. You know what that's my new number one desired episode.
  11. An episode where the citizens of ponyville become all apprehensive and OCD around Twilight because she is a princess. Twilight does not like this but no one will listen to her. She seeks Celestia's advice on the matter and Celestia relays similar feelings.
  12. I don't think this is just head cannon it is indicated in the episode itself. Look at the animal's reaction to Fluttershy as she is talking to them right before reharmonizing. They don't seem to recognize her and take a bit to warm up to her. Look at Pinkie's reharmonization. The ponies don't seem to recognize Pinkie they seem confused. Then her hair poofs up and she she says "Come on everypony I wanna see you smile" after which they exclaim her name joyously in what would seem to be recognition. Notice also how no pony ever questions why Fluttershy is in Sugar Cube Corner, or Why Rarity is doing the weather. All they express is frustration at their work. This is all supported by the other changes we see in the ponies, they have the memories, living places, and cutie marks of the other ponies. This is all compounded by their relationship to the elements. They are bound to the elements and the elements to them as is demonstrated in the pilot episode by Twilights dialog and visualy through shapes of the elements as their cutie marks. It has also been shown a change to the ponies effects the usage of the elements. When discord changed the ponies the elements could no longer be used as they require the ponies's connection to function. The opposite happened in MMM a change to the elements was reflected in the ponies. Though it was also visible in the elements as their color were changed. They are connected to the elements a connection they have had since before most of them met which was shown in Cutie Mark Chronicles. That connection is there throughout their lives. In MMM those connections are switched.
  13. As Earl Grey stated we kinda saw this happen in the Cutie Pox episode. One of my favorite things about that episode is how supportive Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle were. They didn't get jealous and when Applebloom got two cutie marks they were even more excited and supportive. So I think a cutie mark episode should be focused more on the self discovery aspect. So kinda like the flash backs in Cutie Mark Chronicles except extended. However it may be possible for Applebloom to get jealous considering out of the three she seems the most impatient.
  14. Here's where I think people are coming from with this. A lot of people criticize the episode for not explaining the role of a princess, or just not answering what comes next for twilight. Where she is going to live, Will she still see her friends ect. The people who use this argument are I think trying to say is that those questions may indeed be addressed in the future as this is an ongoing series. The point of the episode was to show twilight getting to that point, not answer everything. At the very least the time wouldn't allow for that. So I think many who use the argument are actually addressing specific statements and not trying to use it to address the episode as a whole. They just may not express their stances as well perhaps. Though of coarse there are those that do use it to defend the whole episode. However I agree, this shouldnt be the basis of your argument for the episode's or any episodes quality. If it is I think most will find it mos unconvincing.
  15. It would be pretty hard to make believable redeeming a character so consumed by his own dark desires that his physical appearance changes. I mean look at what he does. Mind alteration, bringing forth your deepest fears and haunting you with them, enslaving an entire race, banishing said race from reality, hiding their only hope just out of reach of them. Yeah this dude is pure evil so it would be very hard to believe. Though I would like to see him appear again.
  16. When did I do that? I'm objecting to your use of the word objective. The main point of that whole post wasn't which episode was better than the other, but that either view is not objective. I never said liking it was good and not liking it was bad. Either is a view to have and it is a subjective one. We can discuss points of the the show that are presented and are objective (crystal ponies) but our views on whether those points are good or bad are subjective ones. I read your review, and whilst I may disagree with certain points of it I think it is well structured. However it is not objective no review can be. Another example is you view the pacing as too fast, a view which many share however not all do and they could make compelling arguments as to why. You find the concept of twilicorn stupid, but others could make compelling arguments otherwise. Many animators in my class argued compellingly that musical numbers conveyed plot and character elements better than dialog. Conversely you could make a compelling argument for dialog being better at doing so. You may hold your view on why the cutie marks are a contradiction in MMM to be objective fact, compelling arguments can and probably have been made as to why it is not so. Does this make your view and argument objectively wrong? I don't think so. I think certain episodes are good because I think they present the subject matter well. I can talk for days about why, citing the intent of the message and all the corresponding visual ques and dialog. I can talk about how the animation expresses the mood of the scene and better conveys said message. I can talk about how amazing that transition shot was or anything else. Conversely someone can argue the opposite or from a different angle or perspective. Are they wrong? They may be misinterpreting the scene's intent and I can argue that point, but they can just as easily argue that they felt the message was unclear and was presented poorly. I might not feel that way and would list why. It can go back and forth. Are either of us objectively wrong? I don't think so. I could make an argument on why Sonic Rainboom is a terrible episode, I could also make an argument for why it is a great episode. Which view is right and which one wrong? In my book neither. Its all in how you present your stance. My whole point here is that saying this is objectively this or that, implies that anyone holding the opposite view is by default wrong. After all you are stating your view is the true objective one. At best any opponent you have is just blind to what is really there. This to me is not a good way to present your stance. Im not objecting to your views here nor did I make a point to really argue them at this time, just the use of the word objective.
  17. Well in the realistic scenario fail miserably. For one I don't know how to cast magic at all and even if granted that knowledge Id be very inexperienced. Considering who I am facing its highly likely Id fail regardless. Im facing the ponies who's connection represents and manifests the ultimate magic of friendship, Two ascended beings by who's powers alone control the sun, moon, and stars, and a being who can alter reality at will. Yeah I'm pretty screwed. So lets see. Perhaps if I'm meta like pinkie I can rip other fictional characters in with me. So maybe the Justice League can help out....if not I'm kinda done for.
  18. Its probably not the best way to start presenting your case by saying one episode is objectively better and then present a bunch of opinions on why you think one is better than the other. In the end that's really all any of us can do present our cases(opinions) as best as possible. The only facts we can use are those present in the episode itself, whether those are good or bad is a subjective stance. For example you like the dialog scenes from crystal empire as opposed to the songs which you actually expressed as eating up time in the episode. I know many (particularly animators) who would vehemently disagree with that position and could bring up many valid points as to why you are "wrong". So no its not "needless to say" why either is better than the other, if it were then this topic would not exist.
  19. I think it comes down to people missing key words in the song and the point of the episode as a whole. When I listen to What my Cutie Mark is Telling Me this line in particular stands out "It's got to be my destiny, and its what my cutie mark is telling me." They didn't just switch cutie marks they switched destinies. The entire life paths of the ponies was magically switched including memories, their homes, and occupations. What was Rainbow Dash's occupation at the time of the switch? She was Ponyville's weather manager. The ponies believed it was what they were meant to do at the time a belief that was reinforced by the cutie marks they had. Also remember that Rainbow's talent is the reason she is good at her current job. In the pilot episode she cleared the sky in ten seconds flat. The very introduction the audience had to her talent was introduced through her job as a weather manager. In Magical Mystery Cure when Rainbow is reconnecting with her element and destiny she again clears the sky in ten seconds flat. Whilst Rainbows ultimate destiny may be among the Wonderbolts, her position in ponyville is a huge part of that destiny and her life Her talent also is a really major part of all of that. I would say that it has been shown that a ponies talent can mean more than one thing or just have a deeper meaning than even the pony knows. Twilights talent is magic as such she is excellent at magic. For the earlier portion of her life she thought that solely meant studying the application of magic and its effects, she never guessed it had anything to do with friendship. In the end however it is apparent she never would have grasped the true nature of her magic had she not realized the importance of friendship. Rainbow's too has a deeper meaning which I think is her connection to loyalty. Think about how she got her cutie mark to begin with, she was "defending Fluttershy's honor". The way she got her cutie mark was through a demonstration of loyalty to Fluttershy. All of the main six most likely have such a deeper connection and meaning. Perhaps Twilight isnt the only one of the main six that will become an alicorn. Not that I think that likely but its possible. Regaurding your point about the connection between the rainboom and weather. Yeah forget affecting the weather are rainbows themselves not considered an aspect of weather, so yeah the rainboom is an extreme magical weather effect. What makes it more impressive in that world is that we have seen that rainbows are produced or at the very least have to be treated in a factory by pegasi before being ready. Yet Rainbow Dash is capable of creating them on demand in a spectacular fashion.
  20. I think you may be focusing too much, yes that can happen. Loosen up a bit and relax when drawing, try not to get frustrated. You need to learn the basics principals as well. I will post some helpful links below. Some of them will involve human poses, just take the principles and apply them to ponies. hope these help. Starting out with a basic line of action is important as it lays the foundations for the entire pose and serves as a guide line for the drawing as a whole. http://artists.pixelovely.com/gesture-basics-1-line-of-action/ http://mattjonezanimation.blogspot.com/2011/09/line-of-action.html Drawing with volume is what makes a 2 dimensional picture feel three dimensional. pony stuff http://flintofmother3.deviantart.com/art/Tutorial-Drawing-with-volume-52042636 pony stuff http://i.imgur.com/koe2v.jpg http://arch.413chan.net/how_to_draw_pony_bodies-(n1298445298404).png http://www.equestriadaily.com/2011/01/pony-drawing-guides.html
  21. This seems to me to be a case of missing the point of this visual piece of information. We know that the other five stars represented the other five ponies/elements. She gained her cutie mark when the main six for a brief time first became connected. This connection sent Twilight into a magic crazy state as the connection was that of that of friendship which is magic. Twilight however wouldn't come to realize this for some time, and instead focused on the study of applying magic. She could very well have stayed that course and remained a talented pony, but would have never understood the true meaning behind her talent or magic itself. Of course in the pilot she came to recognize friendship as an important aspect in her life and in doing so reactivated the elements of harmony. She then pursued the study of both magic and friendship, which she gained an increasing knowledge of throughout the show. In Magical Mystery Cure she finally gained a heightened/full understanding of friendship and finally applied that knowledge by completing starswirl's spell. For the first time time she wrote with a full understanding of the connection between friendship and magic. Notice how the sixth star is shown twice. Once during her epiphany on how to solve the crisis and the second during the latter half of her transformation. The first time is her begging to reach this full understanding realizing for herself that friendship was the solution. The second time was during her transformation the last and ultimate symbol of that understanding. The Star represents her not some new pony. It represents the unity of the mane six and the elements as the solution and understanding involved all of them. Having the sixth star represent a new pony would seem to go against the theme present in the episode. Though I could see them make it work I think it would be a misstep. Also Twilight gone? Is there a secret ending where she dies? She seemed fine to me. All indications are that she will be back for season 4. So yeah she doesn't need replacing. As for this pony, I don't know. She might be involved she might not. I'm leaning towards not at this point, but I can defiantly see ways in which they could utilize her.
  22. Guys...seriously?,its literally the exact same picture as the Skyla toy. Same art assets, same crappy toy wings, it seems pixel for pixel the same image. It seems pretty obvious to me this is photoshoped.
  23. Well maybe. I did watch Power Puff Girls and I loved it(still do). I briefly became obsessed with Sailor Moon. Then again I was also more judgmental as a child and could not recognize good qualities in something once my mind was made up, so there is also the distinct possibility I might denounce it. In fact I was very dubious about the current show coming into it, partially because of the name, but mostly because of my experience watching the first MLP movie and the various snippets I saw from other previous generations. there should probably be a maybe option
  24. Id have to say no not my favorite. It is among them though. Its hard to pick a concrete favorite, though if I had to it would probably be Batman The Animated Series.
  25. Of course. I see this and almost all other interactions on this forum to be discussions not all out arguments. That is why I have become frequent on this forum. This forum in particular harbors discussions not arguments most of the time. I can count the times I have been insulted on this forum on one hand(its about four) and even those were kinda indirect insults. I have only to my memory told someone they were out right wrong on this forum once. It was to the complaint that animated musicals were lazy and that it was lazy to do a musical episode. Which is actually wrong on a technical level, the second you decide to add a musical number you are doubling or tripling the work and budget costs for that scene. Though I wont linger on that. I feel one must try to take on the others perspective, that way I can endeavor to better communicate and understand what the other is trying to say. That way hopefully my response is more understandable. 1.) Indeed not only Rainbow Dash I could also see Pinkie becoming a princess of laughter and happiness or Fluttershy one of kindness. Though I think it unlikely seeing as they seem content with their positions in life at the moment, they are not striving to an ultimate end goal at this time(though they most likely have one). Rainbow Dash seems most likely to me though she has her sights set on the Wonderbolts so it might be unlikely she gets to a point where she fully understands her connection to loyalty. Twilight was one of those rare cases where it was bound to click once set on the right path. 2.) What you say is true I think he did at one point mention the absence of free will. To me it did seem like he kinda had contradictions or perhaps changed his views. The reason I mentioned it is I could remember his name, I cant remember any of the other philosophers names that were mentioned in that class(I'm terrible with names). Though we went over the developed distinction between fate and destiny. Fate ‘“ the preordained course of your life that will occur because of or in spite of your actions. Destiny ‘“ a set of predetermined events within your life that you take an active course in shaping. That's just a basic definition though. The views and debates get a lot more complex on how much of a hand you have in shaping destiny. So destiny by its definition is malleable to some extent. The degree of that extent depends on who you talk to. I view it as a set end goal that you may be pulled towards, but you yourself have to set into motion through choice (free will). 3.) whilst that's possible I don't think it fits with the overall theme of the episode. The whole moral of the episode revolved around having a deep connection between friends. In this case before most of them had met. I think the Rainboom connected all of them because they all saw it. All of the main six who would be and perhaps even then represented the elements of harmony all for a brief moment were connected. Its that same connection that activated the elements of harmony and that connection is in itself a form of magic, the magic of friendship. The focus seemed to be on the connection, the rainboom was what enabled them to be connected. "All of us had a special connection before we even met" "Today I learned something amazing. Everypony everywhere has a special magical connection with her friends, maybe even before she's met them. If you're feeling lonely and you're still searching for your true friends, just look up in the sky. Who knows? Maybe you and your future best friends are all looking at the same rainbow." So the connection seems to revolve around the magic of friendship. With that mentioned it seems likely Twilight's magical outburst was in response to the connection the rainboom enabled not the rainboom itself. Also consider her cutie mark was gained. What is her talent? Magic of course. What is the ultimate expression of her talent? Friendship through the elements of harmony enabled by the very connection mentioned in this episode. Also as stated before the stars on her cutie mark represent her friends this makes sense if it was the connection that spurred her magic outburst. It connects very very well thematically and it seems very intentional and I think it most likely is.
