  1. No, there was a dream in the dream world with Discord and the Smooze hanging out. Neither of them are Ponies.
  2. And it looks like Glimmy is getting sidelined... again. Why can’t the writers ever manage a happy middle ground with her and the rest of the main six?
  3. This got really boring after the first minute, it just wasn’t a joke worth dragging out so long. That’s actually an impressive bit of bad writing to make a three minute short feel too long.
  4. I really don’t care any which way. I just want it to be well written.
  5. Alright, it’s finally here! Here’s an adorable StarTrix animation to get everyone on board!
  6. Starlight’s mother and cutie mark story are the only things I really truly want from the show at this point. Anything else is just icing on the cake.
  7. The birds are flying North for the winter? Uh... either Fluttershy doesn’t know anything about bird migratory patterns, or Canterlot in the human world is in the Southern Hemisphere for some reason. Or the writers made a rookie mistake.
  8. Same, but if they returned for G5, I’d be much more optimistic about it as well.
  9. Absolutely, we should always -Always- remember Applejacks greatest lesson. ”I didn’t learn anything!”
  10. Nope, not worried in the slightest. I don’t have the weirdly perpetual hate boner that others seem to have for a show they are still watching for some reason.
  11. I like Sunset... but I also acknowledge that’s an easy thing to do. There is not a single thing about her (the character, not the writing) to dislike. Borderline perfect, and the few flaws she does have are never used in a way that creates conflict or makes her look bad. She’s EQG’s golden goose, and Hasbro and the writers are extremely careful not to do anything to ruffle the feathers of their money making character. I like her, but I want it to be harder to like her. I want her to be a more human character, not a superhero. I don’t think she fits in with the rest of the girls with all their flaws and insanity.
  12. Season One: Simple storytelling with relatable characters. It sets up the building block for future character growth nicely. Season Two: Comedy and Villains. With hilarious episodes like Lesson Zero as well as a greater emphasis on humor overall, and the introductions of Discord and Chrysalis, Season two is where the show truly came into its own. Even then, it still had great moments of emotional storytelling and character growth. Season Three: Rainbow Dash’s best season. Wonderbolt Academy and Sleepless in Ponyville are two of the greatest Dash episodes ever. Other than that... Season Four: First take at a Season long story arc, and maybe the best one so far. Season Five: Emotional, Character driven storytelling. Amending Fences, Brotherhooves Social, CotLM, Mane Attraction, I could go on and on. Also the first bit of character goal achievement with Carosel Boutique and in my opinion, still the best one. Season Six: Starlight Glimmer. Actually taking a chance on a serious reformation arc that keeps and highlights a former villains flaws and doesn’t try and make a character perfect to earn forgiveness was a chance that has paid off for the show. Season Seven: Emotional, Character driven Storytelling and Worldbuilding. Season 5&7 are pretty similar, but the worldbuilding with the pillars sets it apart. Season Eight: The School and Student Six. Honestly, I like Season eight. I do. But outside of one or two episodes that stand out for personal reasons, the school is the only thing going to stand out about this season when I look back at it.
  13. No, they really must focus on quality storytelling, regardless of which characters those stories are about.
  14. I’ve never understood the arguments surrounding this example. She gave Sunburst the spell to read, he expressed interest in it, and the moment he made it clear he wasn’t comfortable, she undid the spell. At no point did she cross any lines or boundaries. In fact, considering it’s Sunburst, I don’t know how he didn’t know what the spell would do after reading it. Maybe he couldn’t understand it because if Starlight’s horrible horn writing but acted like he could anyways?
  15. I would like it to last ten seasons, just because of the ten years of pony thing. It’s a nice milestone for the show. That said, the quality of storytelling for the main six has been steadily, though slowly, slipping. The biggest downside for season ten I see is that Hasbro won’t allow the main six to slide into a slightly more secondary role, and would force the writers to give focus on character Without a good premise for a story.
  16. Obviously, there is no right or wrong answer here. Good and bad are a highly subjective, I’m just curious of people’s thought’s. Probably the most interesting thing about Starlight to me, is that she is often portrayed as the bad person trying to be good. She wants to be a good person, she wants people to like and respect her, she wants friends who won’t leave her, but so often her base personality, her anxiety, her narcissism, her impulsiveness, all combine to create trouble for other people, in many ways that could be considered bad if not outright evil. But does that make her bad, or do you think that her desire to do and be good are more important? And if you think she is bad, do you think that’s a bad thing, or does it only make her more interesting/relatable/ etc? Do you think she should change enough that she could be considered good?
  17. Gauntlet of Fire. It was the first time a Spike episode really blew me away and started a new chapter in Spike’s storytelling.
  18. Best written? Rarity, though Twilight has also been very well done. Worst? Cozy Glow. I actually can’t think of a better example of a “Everything I do and am is because the story demands it” character. She was smart enough to set the stage and be a threat, but she made so many dumb decisions and mistakes to ensure that she couldn’t succeed.
  19. Alright! I did it, waited all the way until Christmas to watch it! And it was worth it, just the perfect Slice of Life holiday special. If I had to give a criticism of it, I’d have to say it regrettably didn’t try to break new ground or take any chances. This was the main six at their best, which is both the best and worst thing about the special, because it’s all things we’ve seen with them before. Did we really need to have yet another AJ/FlimFlam faceoff? Did we really need to have Pinkie go on another epic quest for the perfect item? (She even went to Yakyakistan too.) Did we really need to have another Twilight freak out? Were these all fun stories? Absolutely, and I really enjoyed them. (Twilynannas is an amazing addition to my vocabulary) But I found myself drawn more to the side characters than the main ones, because that’s where the new and exciting things were happening. I loved Cadance and Shining here, especially their little flirting at the end. The only exception here was Rarity’s side story, which truly deserved to be its own separate story. Everything from the scene with Derpy to that heartfelt conclusion was perfect Rarity. I hope we get to see Rarity follow through and bring Pistacio along to fashion week in season nine. I don’t think it’s the best Hearthswarming episode, Club had more interesting facts about the different species and was more surprising, while Tail had amazing songs... and actually had Starlight in it. But like I said, it’s the perfect Slice if Life special.
  20. Pinkie, that’s not how it works, you don’t win by dareing the other person to do something impossible, you win by doing what someone else dares you.
  21. I’d like to share something I saw years ago. This was back when I was super into Stargate SG-1, so into it I begged until my parents bought me the full ten seasons on dvd (lol), along with all the cool behind the scenes stuff. And in one of the interviews of the directors and writers, they said something that will always stick with me. They said (paraphrased), “We’ve put so much time, effort, and energy into building this world, but we will never care about it as much as the fans do. When we finish writing or directing an episode, that’s it, we have to go and put what we have into the next episode. And there’s times when the fans will come up and ask questions about an episode or character, and we have to be reminded because it was something we wrote years ago. And while fans will consume what we’ve written over and over and over again, to the point where they will remember small bits of lore, we haven’t, we’ve been trying to work on what comes next. Some fans who catch us with a small discrepancy or mistake will accuse us of not caring, but that’s not the case, it’s just the nature of TV and working on someone else’s schedule.” Do I believe new writers have seen every episode? Yes. That doesn’t mean they remember every little detail of the show, especially since it’s likely they only watched each episode once. It’s important as fans to remember that the people working on the show are doing just that... working. They will never have the exact level of passion and fanaticism that we do, and some mistakes are going to happen.
