  1. I completely understand the way you feel. I do like the new pony designs myself in spite of their differences from the ones in the show. However, I have felt the same way about character designs in cartoons before. I love the classic Looney Tunes, but I refuse to watch the new ones they've made in the last few years and basically ignore their existence. The designs in them look so ugly to me, the complete opposite of what they were in the classics. It may sound really picky and shallow, but I consider animation an art form – I have to like the visuals in order to enjoy an animated series or film. Too much of a drastic change is rarely a good thing.
  2. Believe it or not, I also like Scootaloo's vocals. Only a couple of parts sound bad to me, the scream at the end being the most obvious one. The vocals are really off-key, but the raw quality appeals to me (a bit like punk where the attitude is what matters the most). Then again, I have quite an eccentric music taste...
  3. I'm not quite sure yet. It would be great to see the ponies on the big screen, but there is one big problem for me. Most theaters in Finland will probably be showing a dubbed version, and I hate the Finnish dub of the show. I'm sure the few biggest cities will have the English version, but going there might be too much of a hassle.
  4. Though I like various kinds of music, rock is probably my favorite genre. I definitely support rock in MLP! The Cutie Mark Crusaders song from "The Show Stoppers" is basically 80s rock and that's my favorite song in MLP. I know a lot of people think it sounds awful but I love it.
  5. I watched it and I have to say it was much better than I expected. While the human characters and world don't have the same appeal to me as the ponies and Equestria, the film was reasonably entertaining on the whole. For the most part, the characters acted like their pony counterparts, and even Spike being a dog didn't bother me as much as I thought it would. The duration may have been a bit too long considering how much they can do in a regular 22-minute MLP episode (or a two-parter). Bonus points for the human Derpy in the credits (always nice to see her). All in all, while I don't think I would watch dozens of episodes of this if it were a series (unlike FIM), it's entertaining enough to watch once in a while.
  6. The title changing wouldn't really affect my enjoyment of the show. If it had the same spirit and style as FIM, I'm sure I'd enjoy it. Whatever happens after FIM, I'll give the next installment of MLP a chance. I've enjoyed FIM so much that I wouldn't want to miss out on what could be another great show!
  7. I have now watched season 3, less than a week after finishing season 2! I liked the season in general, though I would say it wasn't quite as brilliant as the first two. I guess having only 13 episodes played a part in that. I'll go with the positives first. It was great to see some former one-off characters return, especially Discord but also Trixie. I also loved that the Cutie Mark Crusaders and Spike each got two episodes as lead characters. I have always enjoyed their episodes, as I feel they provide variety with their more comedic, light-hearted approach (though the CMC episodes dealt with more serious issues this time). My favorite episode was "Wonderbolts Academy". It had significant character development for Rainbow Dash, showing what she is ready to do for her friends. Her repeated "Oh my gosh!" and some funny Pinkie moments seal the deal. "Too Many Pinkie Pies", "Spike at Your Service", "Keep Calm and Flutter On" and "Just for Sidekicks" deserve honorable mentions. As for the negatives, the season had my least favorite episode to date, "Apple Family Reunion". The episode wasn't particularly bad (the show at its worst has still been watchable to me), simply a non-event for me. The episode did introduce much of the Apple family and brought back Babs Seed, and had quite a nice song in it. However, I didn't find any of what I consider the three main aspects of the series (comedy, action and drama) represented particularly well there. "The Crystal Empire" was a decent two-parter, but didn't quite match the last two. Overall, the season was quite good, and I'm hoping the series retains its high quality in the following seasons.
  8. I think Pinkie would like dance music (EDM) the most. She loves to party so the danceability would appeal to her. And we've seen that DJ PON-3 is a fixture at her parties. She also seems to have a thing for polka. She has played that Parasprite Polka song in so many episodes, either playing the instruments herself or off a vinyl record, that I bet it's her favorite song. I have to admit I'd love to hear Pinkie doing some gangsta rap. The idea alone is a riot.
  9. I never liked the previous generations. To be honest, I didn't even give them a real chance when I was a kid. I watched and enjoyed much worse shows, as they didn't have the "girly stigma". Today, I don't hate the older generations. I'm still not interested in them (besides occasionally watching a few clips), but I give them credit for laying the groundwork for FIM. It should be mentioned that MLP is far from the only fandom where many reject the original version. It's bound to happen when a series or franchise has been around for years or decades, and many fans have joined later. One such series I can think of is South Park. While the series has never been rebooted like MLP, it has changed a lot over the years (becoming more serious and topical), and many people who have started watching later absolutely hate the first few seasons. And some people will think the original is always better. I have actually seen a few people writing about how "the classic MLP" has been ruined...
  10. I can't believe I'm the first one to pick Pinkie Pie! She seems really fun to be around. Somehow, she always knows how to cheer others up when they're down. But I think all of the Mane 6 would be great friends in their own way.
  11. Streaming appears to be the future in consumption of audiovisual media. Hasbro has already made MLP available at least on Netflix and Vimeo. As for DVDs, I imagine they will release them as long as they have at least decent sales. Actually, I don't think Blu-ray has much more of a future than DVD looking at sales. Though it has its advantages over DVDs, most people just never seemed to care about them as much as they did about the advantages of DVDs over VHS.
  12. Although I've only been here for a couple of weeks, I can already say it's a wonderful place. Based on my experiences, the community is great. The members are very nice, actively participating in the various discussions and tolerant of different views. I also love the fact that there are not only MLP-related discussions but also non-pony threads, and those are also active. Most other forums I've been to are only good for the main topic, which can be a bit tiring. So in brief, this has quickly become my favorite forum of all!
  13. Now that I've finally seen the whole season... Favorite: Lesson Zero: Simply a brilliant episode. Neurotic Twilight is hilarious and creepy at the same time (a bit like sad Pinkie in "Party of One"), and I must say I can understand her. The Smarty Pants scene was really funny, and I loved the apparent nod to bronies. I might as well give a few honorable mentions as there were so many great episodes: The Return of Harmony, The Cutie Pox, The Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000, Hearts and Hooves Day, A Friend in Deed Least favorite: Hearth's Warming Eve: Not really a bad episode by any means, but somehow it left me cold – it had few standout moments (either comedic or dramatic) for me. It was also rather weird to see the ponies play someone else for most of the episode. I liked the Exodus-esque music, though.

    animation RIP June Foray

Rest in peace, legend. A huge loss for voice acting and animation in general. I'm a huge Looney Tunes fan, and it's very sad that so few of the people behind these amazing cartoons are with us today. Ms. Foray really had an unmatched career both in duration and versatility. Of all cartoon voice actresses in the world, she is the one I have the most respect for, my favorite male voice being Mel Blanc. 99 is a great age, but I really wish she had made it past 100. Chuck Jones said it nicely: "June Foray is not the female Mel Blanc, Mel Blanc was the male June Foray."
  15. I have to agree with you there, most memes today are painfully unfunny to me. A lot of memes require one to be in the know. Many of the MLP ones are good examples, they are often based on one joke or quote from a single episode, such as the "Scootaloo is a chicken" thing which is rampant on YouTube and other sites (though I have to admit I find some of those jokes quite imaginative and even funny). And some may be understandable even to "outsiders" on a general level but lack the required context for them to be funny to non-fans ("20% cooler"). And then there are the memes that have no specific context (no TV show or anything) but are still just inexplicable. Doge is one for me: what's so funny about the picture of a dog and broken English? Probably something as so many used to post it everywhere.
  16. Add the ending of "Hurricane Fluttershy" and the scene with Cranky and Matilda in "A Friend in Deed" (the former more, the latter less) to the list for me. I'd just like to see how past me would react to me not only watching My Little Pony but crying at it.
  17. Sad to say I belong to this group too. Until recently, I was fine with it, but I've grown increasingly tired of how empty my life is. I'm browsing a few websites and playing some silly online games over and over just because there's nothing better to do. The only properly interesting things online for me are a few forums (most of them really inactive these days) and watching MLP. And I can't see any change on the horizon to be honest.
  18. Pulp: Disco 2000 (7" Mix) It has been my favorite for most of my life and will probably remain as such forever. But why? There is no other song that evokes as many memories. I was very little when it came out, but I remember it was the favorite song of both me and my sister. We even came up with our own random lyrics for it. I rarely hear it these days, but every time I do, it gives me goosebumps – something that very few songs do. It's even better now that I understand the lyrics: it has that wistful atmosphere, and thinking about times we'll never get back is something I think most of us do. I think it's a perfect song both musically and lyrically. The 7" Mix gives it the final punch missing from the already awesome original.
  19. I can't really choose. I think Rarity has a better singing voice, but I enjoy Pinkie's songs a lot more. Though "Becoming Popular" is awesome, and I'm especially addicted to the remixes. I guess I'll vote for both.
  20. For some reason, I haven't spotted that many errors in MLP. It's weird, as I usually notice errors in cartoons way too easily. My favorite error is the green-eyed Scootaloo in "The Show Stoppers". I think she looks quite cool that way.
  21. I don't like reading them. For example, that famous one named after baked goods – I have heard of it and know approximately what happens in it, but I'm not interested in something like that. I doubt I'd be traumatized by them, as I've read some disturbing stuff before, but I just don't like the idea. MLP is a show about friendship. I'm fine with people writing any kind of stories and others reading them, but to me, characters killing others is not at all representative of what the series is.
  22. I didn't like the old MLP as a kid; it was actually one of the few cartoons I didn't watch back then. I think that didn't really have much to do with the quality of the show itself, but my refusal to watch what I regarded as a show for girls. Seems silly now but that's how many kids think. As an adult (and being much more open-minded), I still don't particularly like the older MLP cartoons (I've only watched some clips but the style doesn't appeal to me). However, I have newfound respect for the older generations, as without them, we wouldn't have FIM.
  23. I have always used Windows, though I have fallen out of love with it over the last few years. XP and especially Vista and 7 were great, but I hate Windows 8. I had to disable all the new functions and install a replacement start menu to be able to use it. Otherwise I'm sure I'd have smashed that computer into pieces by now.
  24. I loved Mega Man 3! It was one of the first games I managed to complete (partially thanks to the password system, though). How I miss those days... The only other one I have played is Network Transmission on GameCube, but I never got anywhere in that game for some reason. Maybe I should give it another try all these years later...
  25. Another one: Twist likes to make peppermint sticks. It took me a while to realize this was a reference to the song Peppermint Twist. I love these kinds of random references!
