movies/tv Have You Ever Seen Your City Destroyed In A Movie?

You ever go to a movie, say a disaster movie, super hero movie or giant monster movie and see your home town getting wrecked? What were you're thoughts seeing familiar landmarks, streets, stores and other places being leveled.

I ask cause I just watched The Day After Tomorrow and read that New Yorkers cheered as their city got bulldozed by the tidal wave.

Nope. No one pays much attention to my state for movies. Can't say I blame them. However, I do have to say I'm surprised a tornado movie has never had it in it from my memory.

Actually I think that's because New York is typically used to represent A typical American City in the similar way to how New Dork City in the Metro Kingdom represents the City of America in Super Mario Odyssey since the game has Mario traveling around the world visiting "Kingdoms" inspired by the famous countries of the world.

Closest thing I think of is The Hunger Games being filmed near where my hometown is. North Carolina doesn't lend itself to exciting action movies sadly but we have a decent amount of low budget horror movies.

Nope, Arizona is rarely mentioned in cinema... let alone destroyed. Its mostly used for filming desert scenes, because of its vast open roads through miles of desert.

You never really see Whitesville, WV ever get destroyed, but sometimes it seems to be borderline. I mean; the comet that hit the Atlantic in "Deep Impact" produced a bit tsunami that reached all the way to the Ohio Valley, while in "The Day After Tomorrow" the red line that is drawn on the map to indicate how much of the US to evacuate also indicates that certain parts of WV are doomed.

Yeah; I overthink these things, but I tend to enjoy disaster movies like that, so...yeah. :p

Where I live very few movies were made (they can be counted on the fingers of one hand) and are low-budget social dramas (about unemployment, for example). So... No

I've seen greater L.A. destroyed in movies. I know they made short work of it in Independence Day. Even closer to home I think the finale of Escape From L.A. took place in a very bad replica of Disneyland, but it was already destroyed when they got to it, and it was a sucky movie anyway.

No, I have never seen Guam destroyed in any movie. But I have seen a tasteless "late night show" made fun of a situation where the island gets struck by a nuke from North Korea, by saying that they should visit the island cause it would be a "blast" they said.

No really, that wasn't even funny at all. Fuck Conan.

Not really the whole city, but rather a closed office building in it.

Specifically, the building that got blown up in Terminator 2, where Arnold was shooting up cop cars with the mini-gun and launching tear gas everywhere. That scene was shot just on the far side of my town when I was little.

I live in The Hague, and I don't think I've ever seen that getting destroyed in a movie. I'm pretty sure the city itself has been shown in a movie at least once, but not destroyed onscreen as far as I know.

Well, I've never seen my city specifically, but in Age of Ultron, the Iron Man / Hulkbuster vs Hulk fight takes place in and was shot on location in South Africa, so that scene had a similar sense of familiarity. It didn't really make me feel any different than had it been set and shot elsewhere.
