health Do you often overthink things?

I’m a person who constantly over thinks almost every aspect of my life. I overthink things as simple as gaming or TV to something personal, which usually leaves me feeling confused or a bit down. Does anyone else have this problem?

Oh y'know... not a lot, actually. Only my whole entire existence. ;D

Really though, I like analyzing things; though I'm nowhere as thorough as some youtubers I know. With certain things though, like spotting contradictions in written form, I'm quite good.

A little too good, it seems, if I'm bored or the subject is important to me. I may overanalyze a joke, or make a neutral remark the other person sees as "causing drama".

I understand people have different reasons for being that way.

In my case, it's my profs at the university who trained us, very persistently, in critical thinking and summarizing. They made us analyze research articles for important information and flaws, had us do short presentations and provided feedback on em.

I do, a lot, I tend to over think to the point of making myself sick for example one time I was standing at my bus stop overthinking about my class presentation and it got to the point where my heart started hurting the bus driver even got off the bus to check if I was alright and I just shambled home sounds weird I don't know if that's anxiety or just me overthinking

I definitely do sometimes but it's almost always about very important things. Luckily I don't have trouble sleeping because of it. I also know that it can go along with anxiety issues- which I also have to some degree.

It's a good and bad thing though. A big positive is that I'm good at dealing with money and credit because of it. I don't make much but I got a new car at 24 and a house at 28, both without a cosigner. I also stay out of trouble and am a pretty chill and patient person. At least I appear that because I think before I speak.

The bad things about it are that I'm not in a relationship as I keep coming up with the conclusion that it's not a good idea at the moment. Now kids- yeah I want to have kids eventually, but at this point in time thinking too deeply about how that could go gets scary.

There is another thing that can happen from overthinking that has been a problem for me the last few years. (due to losing 2 grandparents when nobody close to me ever died until I was 26) It was NOT depression, but it's negative and hard to describe. I saw elements of it in the shows Rick and Morty and Bojack but I couldn't put it into words easily at all.

I literally just found out what the hell was causing my problems and just what exactly it was about a month ago. There is a clinical psychologist and academic professor I've found while researching by the name of Jordan Peterson who has lectures and discussions up on YouTube who described my thoughts/thought process as clear as crystal. He is one of the most brilliant minds I've come across in years. He described what it (my problem) was and why it happens and how to avoid and get out of it. If you have any interest in psychology/sociology he is definitely worth listening to.
