Wow Luna you trickster and spike is really smart also poor.  Starlight she has no one to keep her company she’s all alone.  Can I call this a spike episode and the best one please because that’s how it feels like. Speaking of Starlight i wonder what her reaction would be to spike winning the crown.

So the only slightly negative thing I have to say about the episode is somehow Sweetie Belle got overlooked, as did Scootaloo. I imagine there just wasn't room in the time allotted to involve the both of them in the story. Even Apple Bloom was only used in flashback (though a grand flashback it was!).

I guess Zephyr Breeze switching jobs makes a little sense with his name and like a breeze, he goes back and forth between jobs.

I was still surprised to learn he had a new job. I thought he'd learned his lesson and that hairdresser role was one he'd have for life.

His coming on to Rainbow was a little strong for my tastes, but seeing Rainbow was purposely playing a part and expecting what would happen (and how the whole scene was played for laughs), I'm reserving judgement for now until I see it again.

New headcanon, Spike pretends to be a naive, harmless baby dragon to hide his true self, an evil genius.

I'd never call Spike naive as he's been the clever one for the most part, aside from perhaps "Spike at your Service" and "Princess Spike". He's always been the one to call out Twilight when she's gone off the rails. And dragons are supposed to be innately clever, the other dragons in the show veer from established lore. As for evil genius, well, I do agree he has a conniving, sinister side that comes out to play when "Spike wants." XD

Yeah, I mean I practically raise my kid sister. Also I think that they want to start better identifying Spike as an adoptive brother because we may actually be getting his real family this season

I recall your thoughts on this from a while back, and I've always found it difficult to refer to Spike as a son or little brother (or even employee) since their relationship is more like a Venn diagram than anything definitive. (And I'm repeating myself since I've said this many a time here, lol). I've tended to lean towards the "mom" role simply because she hatched him and there's something poignant for me to think of Twilight as his mom, even if they don't really have a true mother-son relationship. "Father Knows Beast" finally acknowledged that aspect of their relationship, but from this episode it does seem like once he was old enough to feed and bathe himself their role did switch to that of siblings - even if she still takes care of him (and he her) from time to time.

So who had the best facial reactions this episode?

I'll have to see it again, but my initial answer is Twilight and Luna. But I can think of funny shots of just about everyone, especially Rarity and Rainbow.

Even though he figured out how to win (and that idea of his to sabotage the balloon was brilliant) I wouldn't call this a Spike episode. It would be like calling "Fame and Misfortune" a Starlight episode because she solved the problem for the Mane 6. This was an ensemble cast episode, plain and simple.

And Starlight will likely be impressed with Spike when she learns he won the crown. ;)

That was an incredibly fun episode, like so far it takes #1 for single episodes this season we will see if any upcoming episodes can take that spot. On top of it just being a really fun heist episode that gives all of the main cast time in the spotlight and gives Spike another heartwarming family moment. It is also really funny and paced really well considering all that is going on. We also finally get an acknowledgment of the royal guard and Canterlots pathetic defenses, so it isn't one-off either, it is an important episode.

This one earns a solid 95/100, I really loved every moment of it.

YES! OMG all the yes. I'm beginning to see why Chrysalis easily infiltrated Canterlot Castle and replaced the princesses back in the S6 finale. XD

SPOILER ALERT!

Another very good episode of season 9! The big 200th episode! I loved the little flashback of Twilight and Shinning Armor when they were young with baby Spike because it also shows they were not perfect as siblings. I always felt Twilight’s song in “Canterlot Wedding” was her overly idealized version of their relationship so I’m glad to see some depth and complexity to them here. I was also glad to see the ponies trying to keep the castle safe and even some good sisterly tension between Luna and Celestia. I love that we got to see both Rarity’s and Spike’s intelligence shine in this episode since they never really got to mastermind anything before. I love how Rarity sees everything in Film Noir style in her mind. The bit about Applejack being a country star with an alter ego totally felt like a “Hannah Montana” reference and I love it! That was so perfect for Applejack! I was alarmed at the thought of lazy Zepher Breeze being a royal guard until I realized it was part of Spike’s plan. Him flirting with Rainbow Dash cracked me up LOL. I found it interesting Spike was given the status of brother here since Bronies and even “Father Knows Beast” made Twilight out to be more like Spike’s mother but this actually makes more sense because Twilight was still a kid when Spike was hatched. I’v seen some bronies say Spike should have an episode where we see Spike’s birth family, and that the family is not always a blood relation message is getting old, and while I still love that idea of Spike’s birth family, as an adopted person myself I think the whole message is extremely important. My birth parents are a part of my life story and they help me to understand my past and my culture but my real family will ALWAYS be my adoptive family. This lesson is also more realistic as some people who are adopted have no way to find their birth family or simply have no desire to find their birth family.

Before I watched this episode I saw this https://www.equestriadaily.com/2019/04/behind-scenes-my-little-pony-season-9.html (beware bad spoiler of the episode ending) and saw that the wonderful voice actresses had a hand in writing this so WELL DONE TO ALL THE VAs!!!

Yeah and the throne thing was great continuity. Imagine Chrysalis and her reaction if they use that in the finale
Honestly, if they don't forget about this it will make the Legion of Doom have an actually difficult time getting inside...assuming Grogar isn't powerful enough to just power through it all.

I think this episode also works as the perfect yin to the yang of "Slice of Life" in Season 5. With the latter representing the series at it's most outlandish and zany and the former representing the series at its most grounded and sincere.

Another thing, we have brought Sombra up multiple times in Uprooted and Twilights Seven... it feels so continuity driven and I love that.
Also it's almost like they don't want the audience to forget about him or something HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

Watching it right now. Twilight's reaction to Shining perfectly guessing her whole plan made me laugh. Hard!

I hadn't even thought of it like that, but that's a great catch! Also, did anyone catch the others asking her if that story was true or not? I wonder if one of Ashleigh Ball's requests for this episode was for AJ to make up a complete and totally ridiculous lie? XD

Oh look, the rock is being brought up ... and it has no consistency whatsoever. Anyhow, better than expected, still nothing special for a special. I'm not gonna be jumping up and down when they manage to finally uphold some semblance of continuity in a joke episode at the end of the world.

Characters that have performed the best in season 9 so far

1. Spike without a doubt nobody even comes close to taking his spot.

2. Luna

3. Sombra

4. Fluttershy

5. Rarity

6. Starlight Glimmer

7. Twilight Sparkle

8. Pinkie pie

9. Yona

10. Applejack

11. Rainbow dash

12. Shining Armor

13. Silver stream

It’s been a fantastic season so far Twilights seven aka Sparkles seven easily tops Slice of life. Let’s hope the rest of the season is as good.

Don't forget that Luna asked Zephyr to be a guard, which was part of Spike and Luna's plan, whether Zephyr was aware of it or not. I think he'll go back to Mane Therapy.

I would say the pudding face is more freaky.

So don't fly, don't teleport, don't go underground, steal the guard badge and their armor, don't step on the throne room's floor and that alarm system is awfully quiet.

I don't know guys but I've got it covered.
