Microsoft has again gotten a new logotype. What do you think about it? Which one do you like the most and why?

I'm inclined to agree with you, while I do like the font of the new Microsoft and the and 4 squares, I really like the was the o and the s meet in the 1987. That's probably what changed my mind.

 

But dude! 1975 and 1980 are both totally rad man!

All of them except for the 2012 one look awesome. Then new one is just too simple for me. Four coloured cubes and Microsoft written with it. Geez, wonder how long it took them to come up with that.

 

EDIT: Oh, and the first one is absolutely groovy. Definitely giving my vote for that one.

They changed their logo? The 1987 one is just classic. Why did they have to change it? My personal favorite from all of these however was the 1980 one. This new logo is as bad of a change as the Nickelodeon logo: The splat was awesome, but the recent logo is so bland. Edited August 29, 2012 by DJ PINK-3

1987, Nice and simple and clean without any silly little things on it. The new logo is fine, I don't see anything wrong with it but I prefer the 1987 one.

I like the new one. I find the minimalist style aesthetically pleasing. I didn't think the old logo was bad or anything, and if it was my choice I probably would have just left it the way it was, but it's been 25 years. I think it's time for a change.

It gives that idea of something simple and new at the same time. Not to mention it finally got some colours. Other than that, the '87 one was also pretty neat.

The one from the 1980 looks more like the title for a metal album rather than a computer company. The 87 one was awesome, why change it? That one was simplistic yet visually apealling and is the logo most people who grew up with computers would remember. The new one though? Too bland and uninteresting for my tastes.

I voted 1987, because that's the one I've pretty much grown up with, and am used to seeing. I don't really like the new one, it just seems boring to look at, and not very unique.

 

If I had to rank them in an order, I would day, 1987, 1980, 1982, 1975 and 2012.

Seriously though, I prefer the 1987 logo mostly because it's what I grew up with. Plus I absolutely hate the new Microsoft paint version of the logo. :/

I feel like as time goes on the logos keep getting more and more boring... for everything lol.. I do like the 1987 one but something about it just looks old to me. The 2012 one reminds me of like Windows 97 though lol so its not much better

I prefer 1987 logo. This whole minimalist redesign fad I'm seeing annoys me. It's like "Look at us, we changed our logo to be minimalist! We're hip and trendy!". Here, I'll do the same for MLPforums.

 

 

There. I just did what some guy would probably be payed thousands to do in a matter of seconds. That's why these minimalistic logos irk me so much: Some guy gets paid a crapload to be lazy and call it "artsy".

 

However, I totally love that '70s logo. I could totally imagine that zooming onto the screen accompanied by a guitar solo, fading into a computer printing a stack of ASCII art pot leaves.

It was never about being artsy, it was about creating a logo/image that will stick in the person's mind while still giving away the company name. I agree with you.

Though I do enjoy minimalist artwork (posters, wallpapers, etc) I generally don't like it when it's used commercially. In some cases it works fine but it seems a lot more businesses have been doing it just because it's "in fashion" nowadays.

I dunno, I think a lot of it these days is to attract the "hipster crowd" that Apple and similar companies get. You know, the whole "Sleek" thing. I say that, because whenever a company gets a logo redesign, their products get a similar redesign as well, from what I've seen.

 

And, well, wouldn't having a logo that's as unique as possible be the best way to make it stick in a person's mind? Four squares and a generic font is pretty easy to forget. In fact, I think I remember there being a chain of hardware stores that has a similar logo, but I can't remember for certain.

I hope this "modern" style logo trend BS passes soon. Look at Nickelodeon, like previously pointed out; Cartoon Network's basically two squares; even Walmart's changed to that kind of style. It's so . . . boring, and bland, and uniform, and . . . ick.

The 1975 one is truly psychodelic and would not go well with today. Personally I think they were fine with the 2008 one. Dumbing down their logo to the 2012 version doesnt do anything for me.

The new logo was made to look like the new Windows 8 UI, not because they're trying to be minimalists. Though it's not my fav, I can't disagree with their choice.

I'm not sure why but the new logo reminds me of a paint can. I really like the 1980's logo it makes me wonder if there advertisement department was listen to Slayer and Metallica when thinking of ideas.
