Things You Dislike About the MLP Fandom

Really tired of everyone being so pessimistic about the future, discussing how the show might end, this that and the other thing. It's always been around, but it bugs me more and more lately. It get's so monotonous and negative that I just avoid threads relating to those discussions in general.

I personally find cloppers a bit odd because I watch this show with my young nieces and I see little children like them reflected in the characters at times.

Not enough to make me flame or hate cloppers, just enough to make me avoid any and all clop art or fic.

Well if it is tastefully and carefully done it can be well designed, I think it depends mostly on the artist more than anything.

That is certainly true. I can respect artistic effort and design, even if I don't like the piece. The only really hateful clop -- I think -- is that of obviously underaged characters, like the CMC or their classmates.

Always off-topic and always derailing.

I don't think anybody really makes CMC clopart -_- I would hope not. Also the thing I dislike about the fandom are the "memeshouters" who will use "20% cooler" or "I'd like to be a tree" in what would otherwise be a normal conversation.

THANK YOU.

I absolutely hate overused memes in any fandom, especially one this large. They just get repeated ad-nausem forever and forever...

Also, I'd like to confirm that there is indeed CMC clopart. One of my former forum buddies (whose name I will not speak and who has since gotten banned) was a... collector of it.

I mean, yes... that 20 seconds of "Over a Barrel" was one of my favorite moments of that season, I loved it. But I mean, I get it... We have both seen the episode and we get its funny, you are not witty for using it in conversation. But as you mentioned, there are people who do that in ANY fandom... and I hate the people who do it in any fandom.

The bronies who hate cloppers. It's perfectly fine if you don't like the act, but blatantly commenting you think they're disgusting/wrong is probably not a really good example of tolerance. They're bronies too, and aren't we suppossed to love everybody?

And I agree with you on those who spam with ponies. I find it annoying, and it always ends up in an argument.

I also don't like it when a brony responds to a hate comment by raging at them. Excessive cursing and all-caps doesn't help.

Just flag as spam and move on with your day.

Well, as bronies, we shouldn't necessarily hate anything. However, I dislike clopfics and the self-proclaimed "bronies" who get off on them. In my opinion, if you clop, you're not a true brony. I'm not bashing furries or anything. Everyone is entitled to like what they like and I respect that. I don't like shipping either. I know many bronies who do. Gore fics are fine with me though. I prefer reading about Rainbow Dash getting murdered rather than AJ applying honey to Pinkie's *****. No thanks.

That is exactly what I hate. People that say cloppers are not real bronies. Also please tell me how does clopping make someone not a "true" brony

I dislike it when people use MLP as a trolling device. Like if they know someone hates it, and they still send him MLP images of course just to piss him off. Same thing with cloppers/ non-cloppers. Why would cloppers constantly troll non-cloppers by sending them what they HATE to see, what makes them feel horrible?

I dislike most stuff about this fandom. I don't really consider myself "part of the fandom," but what annoys me is people that devote their lives to it and it's all they ever talk about. I also dislike the drama and circlejerking.

The only thing I strongly dislike about the fandom are the people who just claim that all bronies are cloppers. I mean i'm not a clopper, nor do I hate the clopping section of the fandom... but just cause I watch my little pony, and I'm in my late teens doesn't mean I do dirty things with pictures of ponies that people made in their spare time... I just wish there was one person who wouldn't call me a clopper, it really breaks me down on the inside when people think of me like that.

- People who overanalyze everything, sometimes they can ruin a character or an episode for me

- People who place fanon over canon, and then complain when their fanon is ruined

- People who are still upset over the Derpy incident

- Pessimists over the new episodes

- Best Pony/Worst Pony, especially people who are really vocal about a least favorite. Nothing wrong with having a least favorite, but some get to the point where they're just being assholes.

Basically I hate the people in the fandom who are very negative. And those who over-obsess

I'm definitely not a fan of those bronies who get far too carried away trying to defend the fandom and show against people who criticise it. I know our fandom usually gets a lot more hate and criticism than most fandoms, but some bronies seem to throw a massive rage and start going on and on at these haters about how the show is the greatest thing ever and start spamming links and pictures (If online). I do think its fine to defend the fandom from haters, but treating any and all criticism as some kind of personal insult or a threat to their person and then go way too far to prove these critics wrong usually just makes the critic look good as it more or less proves their point correct.

It is unfortunate that we are often all judged by the actions of these few bronies.

I myself usually just ignore the kind of people who direct pointless hate against the fandom (You always get people who post on pony threads on non-pony sites and try to antagonize them).

• Clopfics

• Self-insertion fanfics

• Anti-cloppers

• Open cloppers

• Most non-subtle merchandise is fine with me, but it irks me to see people covering every inch of their body with it

• Pony-shipping between 2 real people. I'm fine with it if you keep it to yourself, but I don't like seeing it clogging up my DA notifications.

Edit: Yay, cupcake rank acquired.

One thing I hate about the MLP fandom is the fact that sometimes the Bronies and Pegasisters fight about things that don't matter. One time my friend saw a fight about people being mad that Scootaloo is orange. Sometimes I also see fights that don't matter but just randomly start for no reason. For me that's the only reason I guess.

  • 4 months later...

While the MLP Brony fanbase is quite a solid one with (at least on this forum) intelligent, mature, and open people who usually have a lot of good things to say and do, there are, like all fanbases, a few things that grind peoples' gears. Perhaps what irks me the most are cloppers, or to be specific, the treatment of them by non-cloppers. We're a group that loves a show that revolves around the idea of "love and tolerance". Just because you think that someone who likes things that are "gross and icky" doesn't mean that you have to treat them any more differently. After all, those same people who make fun of the cloppers are also the ones wanting the Brony fanbase as a whole to be respected.

Another issue I've had with fanbases in general is the amount of explicit fanmade material that is often produced. This is a children's show, and seeing a bunch of fanfics about the CMC brutally murdered or raped really raises a red flag in my mind. Why people would think of brutally murdering or raping characters from a kid's show is beyond me, but to each their own. One could say that I can simply ignore such content (which I do), but I just hate to have to think about a young kid stumbling across r34 featuring his or her favorite cartoon characters. I know I might be going a bit Holden Caufield here, but the innocence of shows like MLP are greatly compromised by such material. I mean, it's okay to think about having sex with ponies, but for the most part, don't go and tell the whole internet that you like clopping. I'm not really gearing this paragraph towards MLP, rather, it's geared toward how I find it disturbing that people are creating twisted fan material from children's shows that are designed to (mostly) be innocent.

Here's what really annoys me about this fandom:

1. The huge amount of rabid fans. (Look at My Little Brony and EqD if you don't believe me.)

2. People misinterpreting the meaning of "love & tolerate" (love & tolerate =/= blind acceptance.)

3. The rampant R34 community which not only makes CMC porn, but also makes porn of the OC's of various fandom members.

4. The disturbing amount of gorefics and homosexual shipping on Fimfiction.

5. The amount of fans taking their love for the show too far. (The guy who is marrying a Twilight Sparkle plushie, pony tulpas, etc.)

Though this fandom has quite a few problems, I still love it, though. The number of sane people still outnumbers the amount of crazy fans, and hopefully it will stay that way.

Oh dear god, I really hate it when people try to shove the show down other people's throats when it is obvious that they are not interested. I don't like that. That is one of the main reasons people don't want to watch the show.

Another thing that has really.... really.... really gotten on my nerves is "20% cooler". I've heard too much of it. I can't stand it. "Rainbow Dash is on it? Now it's 20% cooler." What the hell? What if I put a picture of Rainbow Dash and Osama Bin Laden? I guess that means that means Bin Laden is more likable now!

These are the small things that really really irk me. But I also agree with what Derpius above me is saying.

Eh, not a whole lot honestly irks me about the fandom, I love the people really for the most part.

I guess that people who take being a brony to far and do things to make us look stupid kinda irks me.

Back when it was happening the whole Pro Twilicorn and Anti Twilicorn thing, we're all still brony's and I don't really like that catagorizing thing, thats why I stayed neutral throughout the harsh part of it. Thankfully thats gone for now atleast here for the most part.

Not a whole lot really irks me though, I really like the fanbase and don't get annoyed with them really easily.

I think he already 'married' her. Sad to know that someone would become so attached with a fictional character that they would go and marry them. And when I say sad, I really mean sad. Poor him.

Few things.

First of all, if your on r34 you need to expect some f'd up stuff.

Second, literally every fandom in the world has really explicit graphic material.

But i agree that the treatment of cloppers is pretty absurd, if we have rivalries in the actual fandom, then wtf is the point of a fandom? We need to stick together, because bronies get enough hate from other people.

I read about this, pretty... strange? My question is, when he feeds twili that strawberry... does he then discard it? Or eat it himself? I'm generally curious.

Apart from that, i think people should be fine with doing whatever the hell they want to with their free time, as long as it doesn't hurt anyone, and in this case it doesn't.

Nothing really irritates me about the fandom. I don't care about clop or R34 or gore fanfics. The only thing that gets on my nerves are people who bitch about other bronies. You don't like grimdark or clop or whatever. OK. Some people like it. That doesn't give you the right to say shit about them. It is easy to avoid the stuff you don't like in this fandom, so just avoid it.

After nearly a year in the fandom, yeah, I guess there are a few things that grind my gears.

1. The extremely overrated musicians. Most of the "god-tier" musicians aren't even that good, but shaft sites like EqD and EFR only feed the masses mediocrity and actively work to suppress unpopular talent, perpetuating an endless stream of brony-pop that's unfortunately all that most of the fandom listeners will ever hear.

2. Artist pretentiousness. Too many sub-par musicians and artists who believe that they're at a level of skill/talent/ability requisite to reasonably charge for their work. I'm sorry, but if your attempts at drawing pony still look like a middle-schooler grabbed a drawing tablet and had at it, you're in no position to go "$5 for an avatar, $10 for full picture". And if your tracks sound like MIDI rips or hack-cough FL Studio two-hours-at most thinly-produce amateur work programmed entirely out of presets that you're trying to pass off as "sick" EDM, or a muddy, clippy, monoraul attempt at rock or metal recorded using some $20 Nady mic into Audacity, it's not gonna be worth any amount of money, and you should just feel fortunate that anyone would listen to it at all.

3. The startling amount of gammas. I would have figured a show about friendship and kindness wouldn't end up being a draw to so many people who are, quite frankly, sociopathic. I've seen a lot of people in the fandom who care more about ponies than they ever could for their fellow man. Maybe it's a compensation mechanism, I dunno, but it's kind of irritating. The amount of gammas in the fandom is likely a big contributor to some of the more disturbing stuff it puts out "artistically" as well.
