Shipping And Receiving

 

I'm not all that big on shipping, but was obviously curious enough to give this massive thread a peek.

 

For science. *cough*

 

Of course, shipping is older than dirt, and women of the village have been coming together to gossip, speculate and play matchmaker to younger villagers since the dawn of time immemorial. So it really isn't all that surprising to see the same phenomenon online.

 

When it comes to shipping, one thing becomes immediately clear: Rainbow Dash is the indisputable QUEEN of shipping. It's even mentioned in the OP.

My theory is that it's because Rainbow Dash is Best Pony, but Your Mileage May Vary.

 

Since Rainbow is already spoken for -- by everypony, and I mean everypony -- I'm thinking of how other members of the mane cast might fare in a speculative Season Three romantic dabble by the writers.

 

My pick: Applejack x Some Stallion Who Only Appears In That One Episode

Why Applejack? Because of all the ponies, she gets the short end of the stick when it comes to character development. Heck, even "Applejack episodes" usually show more of the other ponies than poor old AJ.

 

Plus she also doesn't have a lot of complexity so far. She's honest, a workaholic and... honest. And good at herding, applebucking and catching things with ropes. And stuff.

 

Of all the mane cast characters, I think Applejack would be the best candidate for a light romantic dalliance. Aside from the need for character development, her personality would be ideal for exploring the inevitable awkwardness that would come from a pony like her falling for a pony like... well, like somepony from out of town who would leave at the end of the episode and wouldn't complicate things in later episodes.

 

So will it ever happen? Probably not. FiM is targeted at young girls who still play with dolls, after all. But if I was Big Macintosh, I would nonetheless keep an eye open for any mysterious young stallions who might show up unexpectedly at Sweet Apple Acres someday.

I have to say that Rainbow Dash and Applejack are the most likely candidates for romance in MLP if there ever will be.And I think little girls that still play with dolls can handle light romance and by light I mean really light.

Well, they did have Hearts and Hooves Day, which would fall into the "light romance" category, given the out provided by the "love poison". But even that episode didn't appear on iTunes until weeks after it aired, a scenario eerily similar to the circumstances surrounding the Derpy Hooves Affair (aka The Derp Heard 'Round The World).

 

Given that signal, I doubt the producers would want to push their luck. Also, given the fan hoopla surrounding Derpy, they might not want to run afoul of several metric tons of fanon/shipping (not to mention symbolically jilting a hefty chunk of male fans) by hooking Dashie up with anypony. Just back away slowly and let her fly like the wind, and nopony gets hurt.

 

But Applejack, on the other hand, is the ideal victim... er, "subject" for that, since her fans wouldn't mind and romance would be a nice break from her perpetual routine of kicking trees all day. Give that girl a night out, fer Pete's sake!

Today I learned that when you meet somepony new at a hoedown, you probably shouldn't dare them to match you drinking tequila shooters, line dance on tables, wrestle pigs and finish all that off with more tequila shooters. As I found out the hard way, that can end up with you waking up in a strange barn wondering why your head is pounding and where your hat got off to.

 

Love can be an amazing thing, but it can also be a heap of trouble and downright awkward at times. I ain't been one to keep my mouth shut when I've got something to say, but I learned that when I'm around somepony special, sometimes my head gets all cloudy, my tongue gets tied and I just can't say anything right.

 

I'm not sure I'll ever figure out how all that works, and right now I'll admit I'm feeling sort of heartbroken. But it sure feels good to know that when all is said and done, there's some good ponies out there to meet, and sometimes, when you're not looking for it at all, somepony wonderful can come along and brighten up your life.
