Anyone else not understand the appeal of watching sports?

I can never got into sports or watched it.

One, I have very flat feet and I have to mentally walk or run correctly and I lose my balance.

Two is all the rules, the numbers, the stats and the names.  I can't remember any of them.  I don't have the hand eye coordination to dribble a ball or kick a soccer ball (or football if you prefer).  I can't even throw an American football right either.

If you take out all the rules and changed the football, basket ball, soccer ball, and hockey puck (if we're stretching it) to a regular ball; they're all the same.  Two teams, one ball, two goals.  Yes, they are completely different sports; but only because of the rules, goals, balls and stuff the players wear.  Basically I just see the same sport, just made differently.

Baseball I respect.  I don't know if there's anything similar to it since I'm not a sports guy, but "it's a whole different ball game" (hur hur) compared to other sports.   I also respect tennis, because if it wasn't for the sport; Tennis for Two wouldn't have been made on an oscilloscope.  Starting the history of video games.

I'm not one for watching sports either, however, I know one reason that many do.

Betting.  (Yeah, gambling).

But personally I feel there's better things to bet on, you know... like the stock market.

Now, this isn't to say I don't watch any sports.  I freaking love the Super Bowl... wait... oh that's right: just because of the food, lol, oops.

Being honest, I can understand the appeal of football, baseball, soccer, hockey... those kinds of things.  It's not for me, but, I get why others like it.

But there's one sport I don't understand why anyone would want to watch.  Golf.

If I wanted to see rich old white men smacking their balls around, I... *ehem*  Nevermind.  :eww:

Anywho... I would much rather watch 2 cars race each other in a straight line down a dragstrip.  Yes, really, I am being serious.  I know it sounds humorous, but I love drag racing.  It's the ultimate test to see which car can accelerate faster.  Of course, there's also the factors of traction, weather conditions, and driver ability.  If a driver isn't on his A game because he didn't eat his Wheaties, he could miss a gear, or worse, lose control.  I don't like wrecks, so I always hope both drag racers are on their A game.   :smug:

Too bad I haven't seen Pinks All Out in a long time...

I love watching Football (Soccer), so much so that I've got a season ticket which enables me to watch my favourite team Norwich City every week. It's hard to describe why it's fun to watch... The anticipation, the atmosphere, the winning... the losing, the excitement. So much which makes watching football - and all sports as a whole - so entertaining to me.

I guess you could say it's difficult to explain to those who don't follow sports too much. It's all about finding a sport that you enjoy either watching or playing yourself.

I think the better quesiton is why do people make fun of people for liking something that "doesnt affect their life" (video games, anime, MLP), while they like something that also "doesnt affect their life (your life wont change whether a team wins or loses.)

If people are into sports that’s fine by me, but I personally find them very dull to watch and to play, well the ones where people on a field run after a ball.

The sports with roller skates, scooting or cars are more interesting and grab my attention, but football, cricket and rugby type sports forget it.

The social element is a big part of it. I was pretty indifferent to professional sports when I was little, but then I got interested in basketball because I knew my dad was really into it and it gave us a common interest. I know of many people who are the same way and support teams their parents and grandparents supported until it becomes something of a big, sweet family thing :). Like being in a fandom for anything, it can feel good to know you're a part of something bigger. That moment when your team is making a comeback, and you and thousands of other people leap to your feet and cheer in unison is something very beautiful.

Having been there myself, I can understand not getting the appeal. I'd probably never dedicatedly follow any sport that I'd never played myself. These days the only thing I halfway keep up with is professional tennis.

I can understand the appeal of watching sports because I like to watch YouTubers play video games. The two are similar in that you are watching someone else do something rather than you participating in whatever it is they are doing.

I've never understood the appeal (same with "e-sports") but people should like what they like. Some people are into sports, others are into shows about colorful cartoon horses :mlp_smug:

I like frictional sports. But I used them as an excuse to hurt people during childhood. So, I keep away now. Because the "killer instict" triggers and I am unable to control myself. It is that precise moment where "something" takes over and you know exactly where to strike and how, to cause the most harm possible with the least effort.

I have anger issues, for real. It is a huge problem, for me. Self-control. It is like an automobile with two speeds. 0 Km/h or 200 Km/h. So, I crash. And I don't want to hurt people. I cannot keep it sport friendly. I am a mindless brute, even within this scrawny body. Which is the reason I didn't participate in combat when I used to practice kung-fu. Also, I get paralized when someone gets hurt.

Watching sports is no different. I still get that feeling. I don't like that. I don't like competition anymore. I am too violent.

Only sport I ever watch is football (not the American version), will be watching the WC almost religiously later this year. I don't enjoy watching any other sports, I used to play rugby as a teenager but always found it tremendously boring to watch for some reason.

The only ones that I don't understand watching on TV are baseball and NASCAR, professional gaming is more entertaining to watch than that. Now playing baseball can be fun, playing most sports can be fun, I myself only regularly watch American football and sometimes MMA fights(professional and non professional) Street Beefs often times has a large disparity in size/skill so it can be interesting to watch...

23 hours ago, Stone Cold Steve Jobs said:

football is really stupid. You start by throwing a quarter in the air and spend the rest of the game trying to get the quarterback.

I would laugh if there was a laugh reaction, and if I understood football (which I don't). In our country... soccer is called football etc etc.

I used to love watching Formula 1, especially the qualifying, but the drama got a little bit too childish in the 201X, so I just decided to not watch it.
