What is this whole Rarity vs Crab concept?

On Equestria Daily, I have been seeing a couple of comics about Rarity fighting a crab. Where does this come from? I'm confused.

I don't know where it comes from myself. It's sort of bizarre and weird at the same time, I remember, a while ago, seeing some sort of talk about Rarity fighting crabs on Equestria Daily. That's where I first saw it anyways.

I guess Rarity really hates crabs, because of them being ugly. Probably from an old meme, besides I think it has some references to the press conferences at E3.

It's a joke that people made since they think that Rarity tends to be constantly annoyed, or "crabby". They decided to actually manifest that as her literally fighting off her "crabbiness" in the form of a physical crab. Pretty creative and comical, if you ask me.

It's an old meme. I heard it was from a game character named Giant Enemy Crab. As for why it's related to Rarity instead of the rest of the Main Six, I have no idea. I just forget the reasons. It has been a long time since I heard this whole Rarity vs Crab thingy.

I honestly don't get a lot of the things about this fandom. Some fan theories are just plain dumb, like Minuette being a Time Lord dentist, or Pinkie Pie having a homicidal alter ego that uses her full name, or Lyra being obsessed with humans. These fan theories make me cringe the cringiest cringe.

I know it has to do with a PS3 thing, but honestly I my original thoughts involved a fanfic MLP cross with Power Rangers... If its a strange crustacean/alien/creature that could be made into a costume, it'd be a crab villain from power rangers....either that or its a refrence to fighting STD's (pardon STI's, stupid political correctness)

Yeah, I think it's Sony's "Giant Enemy Crab" coming back from the depths of the internet. No idea why the fandom chose Rarity to fight him off, but it's still a pretty badass fad.

Oh my, this takes me all the way back to 2006. I hope Sony sees these images and uses them as inspiration for an action game with a revolutionary real-time weapon-change system. It's the MLP game we've all been waiting for.

Sony's "Giant Enemy Crab" wasn't a factor at all. It was literally something else.

 

Over a year ago, a user name Onsaud traditionally drew Rarity taking out a coconut crab. Whatsapokemon — who's a big fan of Onsaud — saw it and, using the picture as inspiration, created a Rarity-vs-Giant-Crab commission. Because the art was so good, he created more and more commissions. As it turned out, it spread far more than he intended and blossomed into something intriguing, creative, original, and funny. When you have something so crazy and so funny, yet you have so much good work dedicated to it, you get people into buying it and twisting it into something they can play with.

 

It got so popular, Whatsapokemon created a DeviantArt group dedicated to it!
