Why do members say girls are more popular on here?

I don't really pay attention to gender on here, so I never really noticed any 'girls are more popular than guys' thing going on. When I meet someone new, I never wonder if they are a girl or a guy; I friend them if they seem nice, and I brohoof their posts is I agree with them or find their post amusing. But if this rumour thing is true, then I'd have to say girls are more popular only because there is less of us. Or maybe we are just that awesome...

I think it depends on how and what members post here. Gals tend to be more distinct with words, and or going on about nothing. That or they flaunt their femine-ness all over the place. Girls act the same here as they do in real life.  If you put a female teacher in an all boys school, of course that teacher will be popular. Same here, most members are guys, the minority are girls, so of course they are getting more attention, especially if they act like girls.....It's annoying in my eyes more than anything. :okiedokielokie:

 

Act the same? I tend to get assumed for a dude (not so much here due to my feminine username, but still) on the internet and I have a tendency of assuming that people are female by default, even on a highly male-dominated forum like this one.

I've been on several forums before and I've also been active on Deviantart. Except for a predominantly female Transformers forum (yes, you read that right ), most boards I've been on had mostly male memberships. Yet this place has SO many dudes that the gender imbalance is truly palpable to me. Call me crazy but I have personally never experienced this before on a cartoon fansite. :/

 

I saw in the picture threads that some girls routinely post pretty pics of themselves. They're just looking for brohoofs and admiration and they've found the perfect place to get it from. Nothing wrong with that provided they're not too racy. 

 

Some female members probably do get extra attention due to their gender. Then again, guys like Fhaolan and I might get extra attention than we would otherwise because we're in our 40s. XD Anybody that doesn't fall into the all male teens and early 20s demographic is different and likely to be noticed. Is it superficial? Yes, but it's human nature too. It is what it is.

Sorry for harping on a small point, but having been to an all-male high school, I'm going to have to disagree with that example.  Some of the female teachers could easily be confused for the most despised creature on the face of the earth.  The teacher-student relationship tends to nullify those sort of feelings.  However, if (for some odd reason) you put a female student in an all-male school...

 

Anyways, on topic, I wouldn't say that gender is much of a factor in popularity here.  I often don't learn that a member is female until quite some time after I've met them, which can sometimes be months.  There are, however, certain places where a female in a male-dominated forum is more popular, such as the Picture thread, Finding Your Special Somepony, etc.  Unfortunately, that's just sort of to be expected.

I've seen many many more "popular" guys on here than girls, in my own opinion. Maybe because I'm a female and don't care as much about other girls. o-o But most of the time I can't tell anyways.

While it's true that men and women fundamentally do behave in different ways, which is necessary for them to be attracted to each-other,  the differences are not enough to say that the girls in general are all annoying.  I'm not surprised this was said, because I know just by interacting with people on here that some people don't befriend or date women a whole lot. You have to remember that men can't possibly imagine being a women, and women can't possibly imagine being a man.  We are completely different, yet almost the same.  Freaky right!

 

Anyways, my opinion on this topic is nothing, because I don't care who's popular or not, just try to have some fun, and strive to be about 20% cooler than you where this morning

Well, i think its kinda because people think that since the girls are the miniority everyone is gonna be wanting attention from them, because guys are guys and stuff. Honestly even as someone who isn't really that concerned with girls i find myself sometimes subconciously wanting attention from girls, both here and IRL.

 

Does that mean their more popular here? idk, i mean maybe then some, but there are plenty popular males on the site, and honestly alot of people may not even know whether someone is a male or female online until they check their profile or it is stated.

Popular? Define popularity. That a lot of people know you? That a lot of people are your friend? Anyway, what does someone else's popularity matter to you, anyway?

 

Anyway, I never know if anyone's male or female, and to be honest, I'm not too terribly interested. So I never have any idea what the sex of the member I like is. And to be honest, I don't really think it matters. If someone makes really funny jokes or makes really good points about things, what does it matter what's between their legs? And anyway, if that happens to be females more than males, what does that matter, either? Not that I'm saying that it is, and I don't think we have any proof of it one way or another. I just don't understand why the big stink about this.

Girls aren't more popular I would say, they just get more attention because there are MANY single boys / men here looking for a relationship, so I suppose thats why girls get more attention?  Since there are more males than females for sure

This is part of the reason I keep my gender and age a "secret" on this site. I do not want people to judge me for something I cannot help, nor do I wish for unwanted attention.

 

I've seen a lot of people on this thread speculate the topic issued and I must say, I think you are all correct and at the same time all wrong.

 

The women I have met on this site, young and old, have only ever been the following: intelligent, articulate, beautiful, sassy, and not afraid to be themselves which takes a huge amount of bravery in a male-dominated fanbase.

 

If you consider the patriarch of today's society? Of course the majority of men here are going to say, "The only reason a girl is popular on this site is because of her sex." When you say something like that, you are also saying that women are good for nothing but their sex/gender. If they post a picture of themselves, then of course they're just asking for the attention of the males. If they post a picture of themselves, they are only looking for attention and that also makes them worthless and annoying.

 

Come on. The girls on this site are not the only people who post their pictures. Besides, isn't the whole point of posting a picture to get positive attention? Even if it's a picture of your cat, you want people to say your cat is adorable and sweet. But oh, no, sorry, that's attention whoring. I forgot.

 

Anyway, one of my biggest questions is who are these people saying females are more popular than males? I have never once seen that expressed on this website, whether in a private message or a public board. Whomever it was that started this rumor needs to check their facts.

 

Also, I would lastly like to express one more thing: if someone gets attention because they're considered an attractive woman? There is no justifiable reason for you (male or female) to bring them down and mock them. It baffles me that the idea of women being sexual in any way is still considered "wrong". Women who are comfortable with their sexuality and have the courage to flaunt it as any man is a badass bitch who can tickle my fancy any day of the week

Because the majority of the forums is made up of heterosexual males. I guess Bi and Pan (Like myself.) fit into that too, as do homosexual women or other people who happen to like women.

 

There's probably also just a lot of awesome ladies on this site.

Girls aren't more popular, because they typically don't stick around much or become prominent members who actually make loads of good posts most of the time. The ones I've seen are more casual goers of the forums. That combined with the fact that there aren't all that many, and they really aren't all that popular. They just tend to get random spurts of attention, particular in the picture thread because horny males.

I'm not sure to either be a little upset, or neutral on the fact that a ton of members, especially guys, say that girls members are more popular on here.   I doubt that, since that all I see are a bunch of popular guy members. I guess that's just me. The only time I see a popular chick member, she mostly gets attention because she's hot or something.    Anyways, there's my input. I rarely see any popular girl members on here...maybe the same goes for guy members.   Opinions?

 

I have noticed that, but to be fair, like girl games, I couldn't care less if your girl or not, it's the matter of friendship and getting to know others rather than based on gender.

I'd say it's mostly due to the ratio of guy to girl users on the site. There are a lot more guys on the site so when a girl member comes on they usually get a lot of attention. Plus when the girl posts a picture I usually notice the girls get a lot more brohoofs. Probably because the guys think they're hot or something.
