Wow that was EPIC! I loved these episodes so much and everything was beautiful and riveting. I just loved how the ending turned out!

Let's begin with the pony no one likes.

 

Okay, now we have a pretty cute picture of Applejack reading a book. Haha, the book is huge or ponies are small.

Wow! This was an amazing episode. So much content. I find a lot of comparisons to Star Wars (The first trilogy) and it felt very well paced. More action please!

Am I really the only person who didn't like this episode? Maybe it's just because I've been really hyped for Luna's song (which wound up being much less than I hoped), and I had spent all day being excited by various things, but I was deeply disappointed by a vast majority of the episode. The battle seemed about on par with other fights in the series, that being not particularly good at all. While I'm glad that they finally gave twilight an actual role as a princess, I couldn't find myself liking the rest of the episode, especially compared to the rather excellent finales of other seasons.

I didn't like the fight scene. Extended violent combat doesn't fit within the show.

 

Also, I'm worried that the Rainbow Power will replace the Elements of Harmony as the "thing to go get whenever a new villain appears". Seeing the Elements get sealed in the season premiere made me think that they were trying to remove the possibility of such an easy conclusion to all new threats, but then they've added a new, similar power after just one battle.

 

Also, I don't think Discord should have been let off that easily. His betrayal shows that no matter how repentant he may seem, he can't be completely trusted. If anything, they should have sealed or limited his powers to make him easier to control in case of future outbursts.

 

EDIT: After looking at the Rainbow Power ponies, here are my opinions:

 

Applejack: Poor AJ, she got it the worst. She looks like she caught the Cutie Pox from Apple Bloom.

 

Pinkie: Conversely, Pinkie getting covered with wacky colors fits her character perfectly. Her transformation is the best one IMO.

 

Rainbow Dash: The wavy wings and Super Saiyan hair look pretty nice.

 

Rarity: Her hair and tail getting doubled looks weird. I don't like it.

 

Fluttershy: Where the hell did that teal stripe come from? It doesn't fit with her color scheme that well.

 

Twilight: Her changes are much more subtle than the others, which is good.

Oh my gosh, this was amazing. I had a few reservations going in, namely would gaining all the power turn Twilight into special snowflake princess, what exactly would her kingdom be, and would rainbow power be horribly overdone. Turns out I needn't have worried (oh me of little faith lol!) - this was absolutely brilliant:

 

• Luna sang. Luna sang and I beamed like the Cheshire cat. In fact there was plenty of Luna in this episode and that made me very, very happy.
• Celestia got plenty of screen time at last, and plenty to say. Though I did wonder at her decision to trust Discord and even more so the fact that she didn't stop and think Discord might have told Tirek about Twilight.
• Both songs were wonderful.
• My heart really went out to Twilight as she was trying to figure out her place.
• Tirek was genuinely scary - the sight of him stealing everypony's power freaked me out!
• When Fluttershy hugs Discord before she knows what he's done, oh my.
• When she starts crying - I teared up.
• Love the little detail that the princesses, who had been draped sadly over the throne and dais, sat up straight to face Tirek.
• I nearly fell over with shock when he actually destroyed the library. Tears may have been shed.
• Twilight was so completely badass during that fight! She showed no fear despite his immense size and power and the fight itself was way more intense (Maud would agree!) than anything the show has done so far.
• Their rainbow power look was pretty - busy but not an eyesore. 
• Twilight's Kingdom being Ponyville makes some sense - and good to see the others will have a role too.
• That last song was a tiny touch on the sugary side but I'm not ashamed to admit I cried anyway

There really isn't much else I can personally say that someone else hasn't already, BUT I will say: 

 

Best episode/finale of the history of MLP:FIM, EVER! 

 

I was questioning what kind of progression we were going to see, especially for a foundation for Season 5...and the DHX Team/staff didn't disappoint. 

 

Now it's time to work on some epic music about this Season finale!

I wonder what's going to happen with the rest of the mane six.  They're not going to be princesses, but its clearly implied that they're going to enjoy some kind of higher status as Twilight's friends.

Its a different continuity. Why would they even have the exact same story/chracters as G1? G1 was bad, Not as bad as G2 or G3, but it was still a mess. Why would they want to copy and paste everything from it?

 

 

HA! That's laughable. G1 is much better than what we have now. The ponies were actually ponies. The animation was hand drawn and painted. The toys were even better. I mean with the G4 toys they are all the same just with recolors. For example Lula moon (Trixie) Looks like Twilight Sparkle. The G1 ponies may have used the same four or five molds with different poses and similar faces they STILL looked like individuals. Plus their cutie marks are on both sides. To say that G1 was bad is a joke.

Tears were shed. I cried when the library was destroyed. Note: With just a split second to act, Twilight managed to save the actual only irreplaceable thing in the library, Owlicious. Books can always be reprinted and replaced, but a friend can not. Then when Discord said "I'm sorry." and Fluttershy said "I know" with tears in her eyes, I cried some more. I absolutely loved how Twilight's closest friends will now be taking their places as her most trusted advisers as she learns how to lead through the magic of friendship. I'm glad there's going to be a season five, but this would make a wonderful end to the series just as it is.

Honestly, when I snapped this shot, I couldn't resist thinking the song, "A Whole New World" from Aladdin...minus the extremely dramatic face on Twi at the moment...

 

But I agree, if they had not put this shot in, I don't think I would have thought about Owlowiscious still being in the library until somepony pointed it out on here (I'm sure somepony would have!). It shows how thorough the production team is for MLP: FiM--and it's MUCH appreciated!

Well that's one heck of a finale. Now the in-between season begins. It's my first, I'm scared 

 

Anyway, when Flash Sentry appears at the beginning, I felt it wasn't expected, I thought Shining Armor fits the role more, but then again, he must've guard Canterlot while the representative of Maretopia came.

 

Discord being Discord as usual.

 

As Tirek suggested joining forces, I had a hunch of Tirek betrayed Discord and I was right all along.

 

Am I the only one who thought the whole night to day was funny?! It was downright hilarious!!

 

Damn you Discord, you make Fluttershy cries 

 

Battle epic as buck ( I thought the TV-Y went TV-PG when the fifth segment appears)

 

Friends as Leverage, expected.

 

Rainbow Powahhhh!!!

 

Yay for new castle. Bye - Bye Golden Oaks Library, you will be missed.

I absolutely LOVED this episode. I really like how they included a bunch of Greek mythology (tartarus, cerberus, ect) and the fight scene in part two. The fact that they included characters that appeared in the episodes where the Mane Six get their key items is one of the many things that made this season great. All in all, this two-parter episode was a great way to end a season with a linear story.

Anyone else thinking Twilight's element all along was "friendship" not magic and Twilight just assumed it was magic?

Because the beginning book never ACTUALLY says that's what the sixth element is.

So what if Twilight was wrong? What if it IS magic, but "the magic of friendship", not magic itself.

And I mean, looking at all the other elements, "magic" honestly doesn't make much sense imo.

Friendship is Magic

So Friendship = Magic

Twilight is the element of Magic, or the element of Friendship?

 

I agree with you that it's not the magic in general (of unicorns etc.) but the the magic of friendship.

I say this as a fan of both One Piece and MLP. Seeing the library destroyed was almost like seeing the Going Merry being destroyed. And I'm with you on how Fluttershy reacted when she found out what Discord did. You could really feel her anger, sorrow and confusion. I seriously think those two are a lot closer than meets the eye now.

Over time, I've noticed a few possible references, but most likely just coincidental similarities to other TV shows and movies. Tirek's (by the way, his name totally sounds like t-rex, and that's kinda eh...) final form during the battle looks kinda like Jafar in genie form from Disney's Aladdin. Especially at this one part where he looks upward and raises his fists. GOOSE TO THE BUMPS, MAN.

 

Also, the final battle reminded me greatly of the final battle between Aang and Ozai from The Last Airbender. Especially when Twilight is crushed into a mountainside and Tirek smashes her right through it.

 

So yeah, I just though these were kinda interesting, and I thought I'd share. :3

 

EDIT: Oh, one more thing... Tirek befriended Starswirl, we know that from the exposition dump section of the episodes. And it seems like Discord and Tirek have had some sort of friendship or interaction before... I couldn't help but think of the Discord=Starswirl fan-canon that was started so long ago...

It seems that I'm in minority, because I can't say that I loved the season finale.
I don't say that it was bad but I still like S2 ending more.

I didn't liked the battle beetwen Twilight with Tirek, it was just too long and too much not in MLP style. And another use of overdone weapon of mass destruction of evil.

At beginning Tirek looked like he will be very cool villain, but after he started devouring more and more magic thus becoming stronger he also started to become more and more boring and cliche character. He cannot match with Discord when he was evil, Tirek actions was just plain and predictable without any refinement nor artfulness. Just give me moar magic!

 

Discord also disappointed me a little, he didn't even tried to trick and play with Tirek. He wasted potential of his unawareness of the existence of the fourth alicorn, he could use this card to play with Tirek. Instead he just let Triek to enslave him, and allowed him to grow stronger than himself.

 

I also didn't like Twilight's new palace design, it just doesn't fit to village scenery. It should has more organic look, at least different coloring.

 

But I'm glad that mane 5 didn't became alicorns nor didn't stay in this ugly super rainbow power form.

 

The other things in the episode were very good, so eventually I can say that I really liked it.

Yeah, I thought the rainbow form was a bit ugly. Their feet look like they have a condition with their marks all over them. Should have been rainbow coloured shoes/hoofs.
