Does anyone think Twilight Sparkle is a Mary Sue?

No. Twilight has a personality, she has a life, she's three-dimensional, she has weaknesses and struggles, and she has gotten disproved and actually got taught lessons multiple times. Powerful does not equal perfect.

I feel Twilight on the friendship aspect with the Mane 5 has gone too fast in my opinion. She should have dealt with rougher edges with her friendship over a slower pace than speed this quickly to where every fault of a pony like Rainbow Dash is looked down upon. Twilight Sparkle so far seems to demand change rather than accept/compromise for those faults.

I felt the same concerning her alicorn princess transformation. Rarity's always wanted to be a princess, and so I think it would have been more in character for her, not to mention would have made things more interesting, had Rarity felt jealous of Twilight. It wouldn't have to damage their friendship, but could have been something they had to work through, thus teaching the audience that sometimes your friend gets what you want and you have to learn to accept it and yourself anyway.

Rarity being in royalty was as far as she could get with Prince Blueblood. Then she just aimed lower for Canterlot High Society nobility life using Twilight to help prop that dream up.

It would be good if Rarity had another shot at royalty some way. Like Rarity happens to become an Alicorn and Twilight busts that.

I'll admit, she's lost a lot of her personality since becoming a princess. It's depressing really. One of my favorite, and one of the most memorable episodes from the series is the one where she goes psycho.

Y'know what? I sick of no one saying what needs to be said, I'm gonna be the one to say it, Twilight Sparkle is totally a Mary Sue character now! She doesn't go insane and try to brainwash the town anymore, that alone means she's a Mary Sue!

And Rainbow Dash is overrated. And a bitch. And gay!

Yeah, and Pinkie Pie is totally a psychopath!

And Rarity isn't generous!

And Celestia is an evil dictator! She should have executed Discord for his crimes!

And the show is going down hill and ending after this season!

And Derpy Hooves is retarded.

Quite literally in the first episode that Twilicorn majorly appeared in, we see she has flaws. Specifically, she's struggling with what being a princess really means. She almost ends up returning to Canterlot when her friends essentially tell her that she's more important than they are. It takes the help of Discord to set her straight.
Really, it's all pretty much like this. Pick a season 4 episode that focuses on Twilight, and she has some flaw or another.

The whole Princess aspect is still quite confusing. Just becoming an Alicorn automatically makes you good enough to be the leader over other ponies. FIM hasn't really delve into the philosophical point of Alicorns. We have the episode that explains three tribes coming together, but nothing on where exactly the Alicorns come in to basically take away the Unicorns original self-proclaim ruling.

Well, we have evidence that alicorn doesn't always equal power. Look at Rarity takes Manehatten, where nobody gave Twilight Sparkle the time of day. Or Twilight Time, where Diamond Tiara had to be told that Twilight Sparkle was a princes. We also have delegates that aren't alicorns, I think it's just a happy coincidence that the rulers happen to be alicorns.

Sorry if I come off as ranting, but I am so sick of bronies using Mary Sue to describe not only Twilight Sparkle, but to ponysonas too, it seems like this name is used as an all purpose word to apply to anypony, particularly if they seem too good to be true, the word is used so much the original meaning may have been lost at this point, just calling anypony as a "Mary Sue" seems to pass as an argument winner, just declaring a character or an OC, as Mary Sue is all it takes to not respect what the author wants to achieve with their character, while they divert their attention from a true Mary Sue character, try to watch Sofia the First and compare it with My Little Pony Friendship is Magic, then see how different Twilight Sparkle is from Sofia, unlike Twilight Sparkle, Sofia is a typical Mary Sue, because she has it easy, her mother married the King, thus allowing Sofia to become a princess, after that she has little conflict, little responsibility and her personality is too perfect, even when she makes mistakes, this has not occurred to neither MLP or Twilight Sparkle, and that's why I have such respect for Twilight Sparkle, she is funny, dynamic, and credulous, she makes errors and has weaknesses, she is far from being too perfect, Twilight Sparkle is no Disney princess.

To anypony who thinks she is, do you even know what a Mary Sue is? Twilight here has character development, she has flaws and strengths, and the world doesn't always revolve around her.

Though I do agree that purplebutt has been watered down a little bit, and that she was too forced and focused on by having both the premiere and finale of Season 4 to herself.

I don't think she's Mary Sue by definition, but she seems to be so perfect that she bores me. That is why I hate Twilicorn. Twilicorn has less flaws. I like Twilight when she's at her worst. (Lesson Zero.)

One thing I hate about her is that she's the only character written with instincts. When Zecora first appeared, Twilight said she wasn't bad, and she was right. When Chrysalis appeared, she was the only one who knew that something was up, and she was right. In ALL of Equestria, Twilight is the only pony who has instincts. That bothers me.

After she became an alicorn, a lot of her flaws faded away. I don't mind her being an alicorn, but the way she became an alicorn bothers me (that's off topic, though.), and her quirks aren't as common.

The Twilight I loved, the one I could relate to, the one who seemed to speak to me, died. Twilight has doubts, and she still relies on books too much, but she does seem more perfect.

That has nothing to do with Twilicorn. It's more about her character development and it'd be like that even if she wasn't a princess. Actually, being a princess has helped her get more things to worry about and develop even more.

I personally don't think season 3 Twilight and season 4 Twilight are that different.

To me she's not a Mary Sue of course. I love Twilight Sparkle, she always has and still remains my favorite character. But the problem I think that some people have with her is that while she has her flaws, they've fallen in love with this flawed Twilight and any kind of growth she gains that lessens these flaws is seen with animosity. She's not such a big mess anymore, but she's still the neurotic bookworm that we love. When season 4 was beginning, I feared that the writers would make Twilight into what we all feared, a true Mary Sue. But as it turns out, this didn't happen. She remained the character we were all familiar with and loved, for me to the point that I actually forgot she had wings more than once. Because I didn't see her as Twilight Sparkle, Mary Sue Princess of Friendship; I just saw and continue to see her as... Twilight Sparkle. :twi:
