Wait. How old is this virus? I heard it's been around for at least a year, which is more than enough time for anybody to have ridden themselves of it if they have any kind of legitimate virus protection. I dare say even McAfee should have been capable of removing it.

If your DNS gets changed, just change it back. If you don't know what DNS is, just ask your ISP or use Google Public DNS like I do. It's very easy to do, and they'll tell you how to do it. https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/

This was a 2011 Hacker Project Titled "Project Ghost Touch". It was believed to have been designed by six malware developers.so the FBI went in and arrested them and it proved that they were the developers of DNS Changer Malware. The Developers where Estonian National's.

And this is completely confirmed to happen? I just dont believe it to be honest. Not to mention this is the first time ive heard anything about it as much as im on the computer/internet.

So far the FBI has confirmed that those who receive red have been infected with DNS Changer. The Virus will change your DNS and if you didn't check and you are here tommorow. you are safe! if not.. Oopsie Dasiy!

Was SOPA Passed or has nothing been heard? i don't keep up on this kind of thing.

I doubt I would get this malware. I couldn't get a virus if I tried (And I did once). Adblock, paranoia, and a tendency to never use my real IP anyway... Works wonders.

Thanks. I heard about this whole situation a month ago and paid little attention. Not a good idea since people are inevitably going to ask me about it or bring me a computer to fix.

Any further debate or amendments to SOPA have been postponed indefinitely. In its current state one could say that it's dead, along with several almost identical bills that have been presented since.

No no no. Do NOT download two of those. You only need 1, 2 will eat up system resources and not really do anything anyway.

AVG sucks. It gives tons of false positives and doesn't listen to you when you tell it that, no, Morrowind is NOT, in fact, a virus.

Avast is good. Avira is okay. Never tried malwarebytes.

 

The best virus protection you can have is simply not being an idiot. If you do that, don't torrent things and don't go to shady porn sites (i.e. almost all of them), you don't really even need an AV program. But you should probably get one anyway, just in case.

But the scary thing is that I believe I had this malware at one point. What I read is that it redirected your Google searches and stuff, and I had that.

 

Ironically, I got it from an ad on an official gaming company's site. Now you know why I use AdBlock... It could have cost me not only my internet with this, but also my computer altogether.

To date, I'm retty much spared, considering as how I'm unaffected by it (yes, I have scanned it several times, and found no problems to it).
