It depends where I am really. When I come to the Enrichment center to do some classes I am normally using a Windows XP.

When I am able to access my personal computer with internet it's a windows Vista.

However I couldn't bring my desktop from home with me... I really love that one, it's a 2000 and it runs better than a windows seven. My dad built it for me when I was 18 and it's pretty effective for everything I do. It runs steam perfectly too. I haven't had the chance to fully use a windows seven, I'm sure it's really nice. However for my daily activities I use XP & 2000 the most. Since I grew up with computers I know a good knowledge with M-DOS. If you can M-DOS there is almost nothing you can't do. :3

I use Windows 8 Pro as my main operating system. I do most of my work and graphics stuff like vectoring there. When listening to music I also use Windows, simply because of Dolby Home Theater.

I also have a second SSD with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS on it. It's basically a "just for fun" OS but it does come in handy sometimes like when I need to connect external hard drives or something that don't belong to me because of the viruses etc., thanks to Linux I don't need to worry about viruses.

On older Systems I prefer Windows 2000. :D

I was forced to use windows 7  becaues I had to buy a new laptop.  before that I had a laptop which had vista on it.  and a desktop with  Windows XP on it. I really need to save up some money and get away from windows and use a mac. tired of windows running my life like this. lol.

Yeah, I was just messing with you but what you have now does seem a lot less "Linux is best OS, only fanboys disagree" and more like "It's different, and at least as good as the others, but you can try it much easier than Windows or OSX because it's FREE."

Not that it really seemed overall like you were being incredibly biased, just the Pros and Cons section ending with "The only thing Linux can't do is run exclusive software." As a whole it is biased (you prefer Linux, right? It's pretty well hidden but I get that feeling) but it never said that it's the best system for everyone.

I hope I didn’t sound biased against other OS's, I was just trying to give a good explanation to what exactly Linux is :)

I included negatives and explained it's not Windows because a lot of people who get told by Overzealous Linux Users to switch

get really confused on why it's not like what they thought a normal OS should be. They tend to complain that Linux is not User-Friendly when in the reality is just a different OS that works Differently. I don’t want people to get the wrong idea that a Ubuntu system with WINE/Crossover, Virtual Machines, and a Windows theme, etc would be the perfect Free Version of Windows 7. People that want to Like Linux should do so by liking it for being Linux and not just the free Windows they may have been told by a fanboy.

And, Yes i do prefer using Linux hence my username :P, i like the Security, the feeling that i have the power, the ability to have it running on even a computer people feel is too old and needs to be thrown away and replaced. I enjoy actually owning my OS and not just a licence to use it. I love the history and the whole Technical geeky history origins of it. I enjoy using something created by the people :-).

I mostly use Windows 7 Premium 64 bit and I have no complaints, I also use Windows 8 on my laptop and love that too, despite all my friends hating it. I never used Linux, but I use Mac Books at school. I hate them :P For me, Windows all the way.

Well at the moment I'm running:

Windows 7 Professional (64 bit)

Ubuntu (virtual machine), Debian Linux on my other computer and also the Debian (squeeze ARM build) on the raspberry PI)

I think all systems have thier place and purpose. Mac OSX is also fantastic, though I don't use it much myself. I don't own a Mac but run a virtual machine running Lion.

Linux is usually a pain to setup! Throughout the last 15 years I've run Mandrake (now called Mandrive), Red Hat, Suse, Slackware, Mint, Debian & Ubuntu and NOT ONE had an installation disc that didn't crash and burn horribly with my hardware (leaving me to fix+install manually for at least part)! BUT this is all part of the fun! once setup correctly, Linux will usually be very stable day-in, day-out and (most importantly) you learn throughout the process so when something does break, you usually have at least a fair idea how to fix it! The part I love most is the hacky scripting command prompts which you can usually do almost anything with. Downsides are that it isn't as fast as others and can seem daunting to new users.

Windows XP and Windows 7 work fine 9/10ths of the time, are lightening quick and of course have the latest software and games. Downside is when it crashes you rarely have any idea as to why! Vista I never liked and was also a lot buggier and I've yet to be convinced that Windows 8 is the way forward!

OSX on the Mac combines both speed and stability and is incredibly user friendly so very easy for people to pick up and use. I think cost might be the only.downside I can think of besides not all software being available right away on the Mac.

It's great to see such a diverse range of different OS is use here!!

I use Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit because I game and produce music, and Windows 7 is hands-down the best OS for doing either of those. I don't use OSX because, aside from having absolutely no reason to, it's super-finnicky about what hardware you use if you try to install it on any PC that's not a Mac, and any given Mac desktop will cost over twice as much as a comparably-specced custom built PC or, in many cases, even an OEM PC.

I may use Linux for software development someday. We'll see.

Linux of course ^.^ ( lubuntu with gnome fallback mode :P )

I like all the great feathures it has and the freedom it offers.

It is great especially for developers, because you can install all libraries and compiler with just one command... not like on windows where I have to search for the libraries, then find the right version on the website, then set everything up in the ide, chase the dlls etc.

It is not suitable for hardcore gamers (at least not yet), but luckily all games I play works on it ^.^ (psx and "older" pc games)

...but it took me about a year to find the ideal linux distribution for me

I just upgraded to Windows 8, and I just don't know what went wrong.

All of a sudden, my laptop doesn't know it's own screen resolution let alone the screen resolution of the monitor I have connected to it, and somehow my IP address is banned from my Laptop's support site (but only when using the laptop, not any other device on the same network). I don't have a problem with any of the interface except that it's all 1024x768 (though I can choose higher resolutions if I don't mind everything getting squished because they're in 4:3 aspect ratio) and it's determined that my refresh rate is 64Hz so I have massive screen tearing.

I'd try reinstalling my graphics drivers, but THEY'RE ON THE SUPPORT SITE.

Good thing I had the foresight to try the upgrade at a time other than right in the middle of the semester...

Windows Vista.

Don't get it.

DON'T GET VISTA.

I hate this stupid computer!

Aha, sorry, I didn't have anything more interesting to say...

Once I get enough money I'm gonna get a computer with Windows 7. I don't really want to try Linux because it seems a little too complicated  and I'm planning on using my computer for gaming, and Windows is usually best for gaming.

I use windows 7 home edition 64 bit on my desktop. Since windows tend to play games better than linux. BUT, windows 7 turned my laptop to sh*t and I swapped for Ubuntu 12.04 and it runs swell.

i run Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on my older laptop, which is my primary task comp (internet, music, bs), but i also run XP on my netbook, in the event i need Whinedoze for anything.

i dont plan on upgrading either OS, as im in the market for a new rig in the distant future, and ill most likely duel boot it with the latest LTS version of Ubuntu and whatever version of Windows is the best at the time. i only need Windows for gaming, as i rather use Linux for everything else, and Linux gaming just isnt there yet.

I'm an internal support tech for the Evil Empire. So I don't really have a choice in the matter. As soon as Win8 went RTM, I was required to update.

Well, technically. My personal machine runs Win8 because I just bought a new laptop, as my wife and I have gotten into the habit of wandering over to friends' places for a bit of LAN gaming. Currently SWtOR, because a serious dearth of good RPG-style LAN games out there now. If I managed to care enough to make the effort, I would flatten the box and put Win7 on it.

I'm finding Win8 to be awkward and disjointed. There's some parts that are improved, but the bizzare Metro/RT interface has got some really weird behaviours that don't mesh up. I personally think that they could have spent a few more months just planning out the UI behaviour a bit better for a full OS rather than upgrading the Win7 Phone interface.

Windows 7 on the tower. Linux on my phone and netbook.

I'm cuurently waiting for a new CPU to be released before I finally switch to Linux Mint as my main OS. Not because my current CPU is too slow, but because Steam for Linux is still in beta and the last time I tried playing Source games under wine, they'd lock up after about 5 minutes for no discernable reason. I accuse AMD's Catalyst driver but its speculation on my end.

I can neither confirm nor deny myself being the cause of electrical related malfunctions. Anyways, you wouldn't happen to have a jar of replacement magic smoke would you?

At home, I run Windows 7 Professional x64 on my desktop, and Home Edition on my laptop. I have no intentions of upgrading to Windows 8 any time soon.

At work, our desktops and laptops run a mix of Windows XP Pro (x86) and Windows 7 Pro (x64 and x86), depending on their specs and how old they are. All new computers get Win 7 Pro x64 though. Our servers run a mix of Windows 2008 R2 Datacenter, Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise, and Windows 2003 Standard.

I used Windows 7 Home Premium 32-Bit.

It's underrated really. People say Windows is horrible but I have never crashed, I run quite fast, and since it's Windows it's compatible with most things I want to do with it. I guess the people who complain run on older systems with insufficient hardware. However on mine I run fast, don't crash, and have a boat load of features.

Same OS setup with my current laptop. I ran with Windows 8 RP for 6 months and ugh.. the story of my experience on it I could tell.. Switched back to Win 7 and am happy to say, best decision!

I have a windows something. Windows 7! Yep! I gotta sticker that says "windows 7" on it but at school next week my teacher is going to teach us how to get it to Windows 8.

I hope it'll work out for you. If I were you I'd keep to using 7 unless you don't mind that "Metro UI". Hated that. No good for any none-touch display monitors.

Don't do it. Windows 8 is a horrible operating system. If you want a horribly over-friendly user interface I'd just recommend buying a Mac and saving yourself the frustration.

I dual boot Windows 7 with Linux. Right now I'm with manjaro with XFCE4, but I'm looking into getting Linux Mint working on my machine.

I've run arch linux for a year and I got over my fear of the command line because of it, but it's honestly getting more difficult to keep my system up to date these days. My laptop is especially out of date since I just use it for college. A 6-month time frame would be a nice space with enough breathing room to update everything.

I also really admire their work on the cinnamon desktop. I toyed around with it in arch quite a bit when it was first in development and I'm interested to see how far they're going to go with it.

I've managed to fix my problem, though now I'll need to spend some time getting all my software installed again. Not a big deal.

I still don't see why people hate Windows 8 so much, the upgrade may have derped but other than that there's nothing too bad.

On my home PC I have Windows 7 Ultimate, mainly because it came with it when I bought it. 7 is great and I have no reason to upgrade to 8 purely because I just don't need to.

At work however we use macs at the office and we're currently still on Lion. I personally preferred Snow Leopard as upgrading to Lion messed a few things up.
