I don't think they would have any of the Mane Six die for real. I could, however, see a kind of "Disney Death" moment where somepony almost dies or appears to be dead or even dies and comes back to life. If they do go that route, I would guess it would be Twilight though.

I didn't even have to read the end of the post to know you were gonna say to kill of Rainbow Dash.

Why does everyone hate Dashie?? :'(

I think that's a terrible idea, and thank god it will never happen.

Here's how I see it going down...

In a world where the night is ever lasting...where chaos reigns over order...where love itself is devoured to feed a fiercesome horde...one mare is all that stands between hope and despair. *Cue dramatic music* Enemies long thought defeated have returned and Equestria is in peril like it has never known. Celestia has been defeated...Luna has been corrupted...and the land itself writhes in torment. In this new regime, Generosity is a thing of the past, Laughter is but a legend, Loyalty has been lost, Kindness gave way to survival, and Magic is no longer complete. Honesty is the last line of defense before everything is lost. Applejack must find the Elements of Harmony that have scattered at her friends' departure. But what she must come to realize, is that the Elements lie within. *Cue epic battle music* Battles will be fought, family ties will break, friendships will be reborn, and one country farmpony will never be the same. Applejack will face all that makes this world bleak and she must prevail, lest the world lose it's only beacon of hope. This summer, Honesty is the best policy...for kicking flank.

Coming to a theater near you. This film rated '20' for 20% cooler.

Blame Kyronea for that, it was his Idea :P his reasoning was because of her loyalty she would sacrifice herself to save her friends. My thoughts were that (if such a thing were to occur) that Princess Celestia, in a final act of pure leadership, sacrificed herself (and it was suggested that rather than die the just be removed from the story) to save her subjects.

Knowing Hasbro such epicness would, unfortunately, be confined to the original introduction character, Twilight. But I like your Idea.

Maybe it could be like a thing where they do something heroic, and get hurt, or appear to die, but then are okay. (Think of the ending of How to Train your Dragon)

I do like the idea of a MLP FIM movie though.... Except there will never be a finale, the show will NEVER END!!!!!

Kill off a main character? No, no, no, no, no! I know us bronies love the show but at the end of the day the primary target demographic is little girls. Not only would they be crying because the series is over, but they would be crying because a pony is dead. I don't think the parents would be too happy about that either.

Luckily, that won't happen, but I still quite like the idea of a movie.

I think one of the best things they could do is to kill off one of the Mane Six at the end of the movie.

Pfft why stop at one?

But seriously I almost wish the show wasn't for younger audiences because I like the idea of killing one of the mane 6 off. Remember when Optimus Prime died in the Transformers movie? That was rather adult for a kids show [yeah it was for boys and the intended audience was older but the same concept applies] Not to mention sad as hell. If I had to pick one to be killed I'd have to say......Rainbow Dash. I like her and all but she's the only one I could see dieing.

it is simply IMPOSSIBLE for them to kill any of the mane six

I however, do picture Celestia or Celestia and Luna somehow dieing at the end, but it would be more like sacrificing themselves and dissapearing. That way Twilight could be the new ruler of Equestria, or maybe Cadance, who knows.

But mane 6 never.

If killing a main character for a Hasbro show didn't work in the 80's on their more popular shows. The actual chances that it would happen now and with the show being more kid friendly, it's almost impossible that they would follow that path again. Unless they want some angry e-mails from concerned parents again.

I can't get on board with killing one of the characters, even if it could be done "well." The narrative would be saturated by that event alone such that the rest of the story would risk being suffocated by a character meeting a dramatic end. How could it not be? If Rainbow Dash died defending/saving her friends, then the only thing most viewers would talk about is that instance. I don't think it would be fair to the potential story as a whole. Furthermore, I think a dramatic effect can still be achieved by having a near death event which results in an eventual happy ending. But MLP doesn't lend itself to making death anything but tragic; Equestria is relatively free of strife and conflict, so somepony dying would be a shock to all the characters in a profound fashion. The finale could then only be described as either tragic or, at best, a pyrrhic victory for the main characters. It's like letting the villain win at the end of a Disney film.

One can craft a mature narrative without making it instantly dark and/or grimdark. I would venture to say the season two finale was mature inasmuch as it knowingly disrupted several tried and true formulas established within the show (e.g., the Elements of Harmony defeats the villain). There was also the introduction of yet another vile and uncanny foe (Chrysalis; Discord being the other) for the ponies to battle. We were also given a fairly serious fight scene involving the main characters. But none of these events disrupted the formula so much that viewers would sit back and wonder if they were still watching MLP. Let us not forget, furthermore, that a significant element of show's charm is its innocence retained in the midst of greater self-awareness as more than a show for little girls. I don't think that can be jettisoned without jumping the shark wholesale.

If and when there is a series finale, I am of the opinion that everypony should be relatively fine at the end---although I would consider a Lion Kingesque event where perhaps one of the royal sisters may pass away, providing deep emotional investment for the story. In the style of Calvin&Hobbes's final comic, the journey should remain fairly open-ended. Undoubtedly My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic will live on in the fandom after it goes off the air, so a small yet meaningful nod from the writers to the fandom signifying that the journey into friendship continues would be the most impactful; and I happen to think it would subvert the "and they all lived happily ever after" trope just enough to retain the independent spirit of the show.

As the Fan Base has been growing the chances, that we might actually see a movie is more and more I'd say.

I mean so long as the budget is done right, it'll be nothing but a lot of money for hasbro. Which i'm sure they'd love.

  • 3 weeks later...

With rumor of a MLP:FiM movie floating about, I thought a thread specifically for that rumor was necessary.

I myself, like the idea. Give these guys a movie budget and 90 minutes to tell a story any day. They could get so many great things done. There would be more time to develop the characters and give each on an ample moment to shine.

What should the plot be? Each of the mane 6 character's parents visit for a celebration of some kind and villain team-up. That is all.

It has to have at least three songs. Good songs.

It should also make Lauren's dream come true by making them all go on an adventure. ( More than just 'Tell the dragon to stop snoring' )

There are so many posibiltys with this. Then again it is all rumors but i think it is gonna happen though. If there is a movie what i would like to see is Discord returning again. And we get to find out more about what happened those 1000 years ago. And the Mane 6 go on some epic adventure. That would be awesome!

A movie would be good, and it obviously would need some devious villan, yet also tell some deeper backstory of each of the mane 6...

I do have to agree, having a time-travel movie would be pretty nice to see, but I honestly doubt that they would ever be making a movie at all. Sure, it would be a great thing to see, but it would take time to make and I think they aren't really willing enough to take this show into a movie phase. Then again, there have been some good show-to-movie movies. We can only sit back and see, but I am casting my vote for I don't think it would happen.

It should definitely involve epic journeys and some real heroic stuff. I know it's a kid's show, but still. You can't make a movie that's just just a really long episode.

Besides that, I don't know what could be done with a movie :/

I HAD TO FALL TO LOSE IT ALL BUT IN THE END IT DOESN'T EVEN MATTER /WRISTS
