I do not enjoy Dubstep as my name may lead you to. I only like remixed, "Bronyfied" dubstep, I am a lot like Octavia, funniest thing is, I even play the cello. Oops got a bit off topic, anyway Dubstep, what is your opinion on the fax machine that is sweeping the world

Dubstep is gods gift to the trash that is the rest of the music!

Lol i kid. I like it, but I like anything that isn't country, religious or screemo. Usually its a song by song bases and there are dubstep songs that I don't like etc.

Don't like dubstep because it isn't heavy enough and therefore gay if you listen to it the drops are powerful but mostly slow, despite the great buildups. When it comes to this formula (song speed, build up, drop) I prefer more faster styles like Hardstyle, I believe it is. And in general I liked Liquid DnB much more so...

...why does it feel like I'm saying a load of crap?

I don't really like dubstep. To pinpoint exactly what it is that turns me away, I'd have to play some.. and yeah I just don't really feel like doing that. Lol.

Though I must admit, I kinda like the heavy bass.

Dubstep is one of the genres I can really enjoy. The heavy bass can be awesome, as well as the drops. Most of the Dubstep people hear today is probably Brostep, which is a sub-genre that Skrillex made popular. I prefer Liquid Dubstep over most though.

Liquid Dubstep example:

I went ahead and merged this thread into the existing dubstep thread... again.

I also went ahead and renamed the existing thread to be more to the point, so it's easier to tell there's already a thread for discussing Dubstep.

While I'm in here... I'm rather neutral to dubstep. I don't go out of my way to listen to it, but I don't go out of my way to avoid it, either. People link Dubstep artists' music to me occasionally, and my response is always pretty much something like "It's okay, but it's really not my kind of thing". I'm more of a metal person.

Taroop, you scared me. I tried to post my comment that literally took about 15 minutes to write and got an error. Thankfully, I copypasta my own stuff. So here goes.

Ok, here comes my rant.

Dubstep is very mediocre. I don't despise dubstep. What I despise are the drops.

Dubstep drops are the very epitome of the decline of music.

Let's analyze a drop. It includes:

  • Very loud bass
  • Lots of mechanical sounds
  • Some rhythm in how the sounds are played out.
Those are pretty much facts, unless you're talking about dubstep from other planets or such.

I could frame out my argument for the superiority of melody over bass, but instead I'll just say that melodies are the catchy part of the music, what people enjoy, and when you get a song stuck in your head, you're not remembering the bass. Most people don't vividly remember songs because the bass was good. I could be making assumptions, but they are very educated based on people I know, including people who like dubstep.

Consider one of the most popular songs of dubstep, Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites. I don't know about most people, but the part that stands out to me is the "nice sprites" portion, the melody that appears at the beginning of the song. That melody (IMHO) is gold. I have had that melody stuck in my head for ages. But the drop? I don't remember that at all. It is neither memorable nor exciting to recall.

To further explain my dislike for drops, I would have to go into what makes a song "good," but I'll settle for just a couple small arguments. We can all agree that music has changed throughout the years, and (to my personal dismay) Classical is seen as music for old people and hippies and such. There are a couple of factors that appear in every widely accepted "good" song across the years. Beethoven's Ninth, for example. Anyone and their mother knows the opening MELODY to that, partly because it's so catchy. Fastforward a crapload of years. Michael Jackson's Thriller was popular because everyone remembers the MELODY. Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody can be considered Melodic genius. Modern day, we have Adele topping the charts because of her awesome voice and, you guessed it, the melody. In short, we can't deny that the melody of a song has an extremely important role in how good it is. Considering dubstep is known for the drops, LACK of melody, I really don't believe it should be considered on the same scale.

As much as people will say that Bass is the foundation to a song and thus much more important, it doesn't work to compare music to the structure of a building. In fact, even if it did, we can all agree that we recognize structures such as the Statue of Liberty by the top, and not the base. The structure of a song is much more coherent to the foundation of a structure, but that's another argument completely unrelated. The most important thing to remember when listening to dustep and more importantly drops is that you're really just getting excitement from really loud bass. In that case, I'd advise you to listen to songs that only have drops and no melodies. You can't really enjoy that stuff because there's nothing to hold on to. As a Youtube commenter once said, "This drop sounds like transformer sex." And yeah, I don't really want to listen to clanky robots for my music.

/endrant. I could write an essay on this based on my emotions alone. I really could.

I like Dubstep but for some reason most artists think it needs excessive modulation and synth when that's simply not the case (not to mention most tracks like that are a bit lacking in bass). Which is why The Distance is my favorite Dubstep artist.

Case in point:

Sure, not all of his tracks are like that but even the ones that are mainly synth aren't overbearing like the skrillexes of the world.

I can neither confirm nor deny myself being the cause of electrical related malfunctions. Anyways, you wouldn't happen to have a jar of replacement magic smoke would you?

(if you like Dubstep)

My Answer: Skrillex and Noisestorm...

What's Yours?

I am NOT A Skrillex hater, some of his music is pretty good but he has even said himself, he's not dubstep. He's a mixture of alot of different types of EDM with dubstep drops.

On topic, I like dubstep. I do think it's a bastardization of the broad genre of techno and electronica, but i digress. Dubstep is really ood, especially artists like Nero and Flux Pavilion. I like them both alot. I also listen to Zed's Dead and Noisia. Now, for the videos.

First off, Halo 4 dubstep is f*cking sweet.

Second, this may be my favorite dubstep song: Doomsday by Nero.

EDIT: Eurobeat and Italo-Disco are better than dubstep!

I love Dubstep, musicians like Noisestorm and Stephen Walking are among my favorite, but I would have to say I prefer Liquid Dubstep, such as Blackmill and Rameses B, most of all.

I just love the calming sound it has and it's a nice change from the harder sound most people hear.

Can't say I am a fan of the dubstep, It seems a little loud for my tastes. I'm a country music kind of person I'd rather listen to songs that tell unnecessary stories about Momma, or trains, or trucks, or prison, or gettin' drunk. Like Granddaddy always blurted out in a drunken fashion: "Nothin' tells a story like Country Music, or a drunken cowboy waitin' for his 6th beer."

But that's just my opinion.

Yes I love Dubstep however, there are certain Dubstep artists that I will listen to. I do enjoy some of Skrillex's work however, some of his songs can be a bit grating to the nerves
