1) Twilight Sparkle.  Even only counting Unicorn twilight, she;s shown to be both A) a powerful mage, and B ) a great manager of teams, as shown in Winter Wrap Up.

2) Big Mac.  We need a Big Guy in our five man team.  He's got the strength, and having been part of the Apple family, he knows how to be a good team member.

3) Much as I'd like to say Sweetie Belle, I'd have to go with Apple Bloom- she's fearless, but not as reckless as Scootaloo, plus she already works well with Big Mac.

4) Soarin'.  This team so far is desperately in need of air support, and Spitfire's not available since I already filled Side Character with Big Mac.

5) Does fanon count here?  Because I'd like to go with Dr. Whooves.  That Sonic Screwdriver may prove to be very useful.

5) Trixie.  Her sense of showmanship and sleight-of-hoof could prove to be fairly useful.

1. Weird choice, but: Fluttershy

2. Trixie.

3. Scootaloo... :D

4. Big mac

5. Lyra

6. Bunny... There's no Fluttershy without bunny!

Don't know if it would actually work to save the world with these characters, as it seems kinda like a silly team, but still... I think trixe is more powerful than we understand from the episodes....

Twilight Sparkle- She's smart, talented, and has more magic than any other pony in Equestria. It's hard not to choose her.

Gilda- While a total jerk, she is still fast and strong. Fly around on her back and save the world

Scootaloo- I would choose Scootaloo because of her determination

Big Mac- He's very, very strong

Doctor Whooves- He's a time lord. Any more questions?

Chrysalis- she isn't a pony, she just looks like one. She could infiltrate the enemy places and be good

1. Rainbow Dash- Her Loyalty will be what keeps the group together and she has a lot of confidence and inspires confidence also.

2. Princess Luna-I'd like to think that since she had Nightmare Moon inside of her she has a little more power to offer then Celestia. She would also be a very strict party member.

3. Scootaloo- She seem the more tougher of the CMC, therefore she wouldn't crack as easily under the pressure. Having R.D. in the party would be a morale boost for her.

4. Big Macintosh-He's an overall powerhouse. He can do heavy lifting and pulling and if it comes down to it he can deal some damage. he would be like a tank.

5. Vinyl Scratch- She has a Bass Cannon for Celestia's sake! She would be in the group to act solely in a support role with the occasional Bass blast

6. ME! Garble-He would be the misunderstood outcast of the group. He deal out heavy ranged damage with his fire breath.

I see a lot of posts mentioning Vinyl and the Doctor because of fan-appointed advantages (bass cannon and timelord stuff).

I think you should be careful with these, because as I just said, these assets were given to those ponies by fans. One canon episode where they're shown unable to use such gadgets (or Timelord skills like atmospheric "tasting"), and your group becomes invalid.

Also, some of you put in two stallions and/or two non-pony characters.

1. Applejack - The fighter. Years of working on the farm have given her some powerful bucks and she's got some skill with a lasso. She's an all around capable fighter. And let's not forget her hard working attitude; she won't falter, even in the toughest of situations.

2. Trixie - The mage. True, her magic may not be that powerful but it still has its uses. With skill in show magic, I imagine that her magic spells will be quite versatile and prove to be very useful in many situation. Plus, she can run her show as The Great and Powerful Trixie on the side to earn some bits for the party in between quests; we'll need all the bits we can get to afford supplies.

3. Sweetie belle - The cute...... I don't know, fills our adorableness quota I guess and maybe she can be back up singer for Lyra's songs (though I'm a little skeptical of how well that will work out). I don't think Applejack and Big Mac would be able to stop worrying if Applebloom tagged along on our dangerous adventure.

4. Big Mac - The tank. Big and powerful; the muscle of the group. Also has good synergy with Applejack of course.

5. Lyra - The muse. On our journey across the world, we will need somepony to keep track of all our triumphs and exploits, passing them along to the ponies of various towns through song. I want our adventures to be remembered long after our journey has come to an end. She also provides much need entertainment during the down time between quests; got to keep stress levels in check, you know.

6. Changeling - The scout. Can use shapeshifting to infiltrate enemy encampments and organizations, getting us much needed info (knowing is half the battle). It also has the ability to fly, giving us a bird's eye view of our surroundings. This guy is all around very useful.

This game is interesting! I will play.

1. Rainbow Dash <3

I think it's necessary to have her on the team because her high flying skills, super speed, the power of the Sonic Rainboom are quintessential to the quest to save the world. Plus, she has the charisma and tenacity that makes everything that much more doable.

2. Shining Armor

Unlike a lot of other fans, I do like Shining Armor. Similarly to his sister, he has a lot of magical talent, sans Twilight's ingenuity. His ability to cast a barrier powerful enough to protect all of Canterlot is sure to come in handy, and being captain of the royal guard would also mean he has experience in defense and strategy, which will be extremely useful for saving the world.

3. Sweetie Bell

Out of the crusaders, I have a bit of a soft spot for her due to her caring nature. Her magical talent might also be put to good use.

4. Big Mac

There aren't a lot of stallions in this series so there's not a lot to go on. I would almost choose Shining Armor for his magical ability, but I already got him. So I would have to go with Big Mac. His strength and endurance are some of the best seen in the entire show, and they would also be of great use in the world quest. He also showed a lot of dedication and loyalty. It's pretty safe to say he would be more than happy to embark on a mission if it means protecting his family.

5. Octavia [/u].

Because why the hell not!!!!

6. Chief Thunderhooves

Or Iroh

I'm not sure what is meant by this. Is this still limited to the MLPverse? If so, then I would choose Chief Thunderhooves. Like Big Mac, his speed, strength and endurance will also come into play.

If not limited to the MLPverse, I have a few characters in mind, but someone I'm definitely considering is Iroh from Avatar: The Last Airbender. He's incredibly wise and powerful for his years. I'm also very certain he would be a very agreeable person with other pony characters given his ideals. Another character I also considered is Raiden from Metal Gear Rising just because he's too much of a badass not to be considered xD

The real world, Equestria, or both are in danger. You must lead a rag-tag group of FIVE ponies on an RPG-like quest to save the day. Here are the rules!

You may pick:

1. ONE of the Mane 6.

2. ONE side character or minor villain.

3. ONE of the Cutie Mark Crusaders.

4. ONE stallion.

5. ONE background pony.

6. ONE non-pony character (no major villains allowed).

I will brohoof anyone who also posts good reasons for each of their picks. Have at it my friends! B)

1 Twilight or Pinkie Pie, Twilight has powerful magic and Pinkie pie can break Physics so either one would work.

2 Princess Celestia, supposing I can't choose her or any of the royals due to OPness then probably the Great and Powerful Trixie!

3 Applebloom, sensible and good at construction, the other CMCs may be great but if this is to save the world I need the most practical around.

4 Big Mac, or maybe Prince Blueblood so we can use him to act as a bait....

5 A Changling, infiltration and stealthy observation is a must in any operation.

1.) Rainbow Dash Since her speed and agility will come in handy.. She would also keep up the moral with her awesomeness. Her loyalty will also come in handy, if she would end up being captured. She could probably save the world on her own.

2.) Spitfire That is if she counts as a side character. First of she is awesome, also she is strong and could take controll of the situation.

She would be a great leader.

3.) Sweetie Belle She could use her cuteness against her enemies.. She is also really helpfull, and has shown that she is able to pull a cart filled with camping equipment. So that would come in handy.

4.) Doughnut Joe Simply because he could make doughnuts, also because he could become a spy. It would be good to have a cook on the team.

5.) Vinyl Scratch With the power of the Bass Cannon, she could easily save the world alone. She and Rainbow Dash would do most of the work.

6.) Gilda She is tough, so she would come in handy..

1. Rainbow Dash!!! (Because she's awesome...and...uh...rainbow?)

2. Zecora (Because who doesn't need advice? Even if Princess Luna is one of my favorite side characters, she can be busy and uh...her royal canterlot voice might ruin things.)

3. Sweetie Belle! :)

4. Doctor Whooves? (You never said no background ponies, so I just put him down anyway).

5. Derpy Hooves!! (Duh. Of course she can be a bit clumsy, but her skills can help even if she can make a few...mistakes.)

6. Spike. (He can be a good assistant!)

1. Applejack: If this farm pony was in a Pokémon game, she'd have the highest HP, Attack, Defense, and decent Speed, too. Good ol' "Kick butt diplomacy". Other than being a great fighter, she is the most practical and clear-minded of the main six--including Twilight, including Alicorn Twilight. She's just as good of a leader, as well. She may lack Rainbow Dash's speed, but in turn she doesn't charge into every situation without thinking first. RD is too brash--she could get herself in danger without formulating a strategy first. Other than that, I feel bad for her because only one other person picked her. We don't need magic to solve every problem, my dear fellows.

2. Zecora: The healer of the group! If this is some RPG thing, she can heal HP, status problems, and restore MP. Invaluable. Not to mention that she's got magic even Twilight doesn't know about, so she's valuable in fighting, too.

3. Sweetie Belle: Sweetie Belle, use Hyper Voice! (Pokémon move...I apologize.) IT'S SUPER EFFECTIVE!

Her small size also makes her harder to hit, and her magic could be improving (shown in Magic Duel) so she can be a great ally.

...Sweetie Belle, there's Cerberus...without music, he can't fall asleep...use Sing!

Bam.

4. Shining Armor: Like others have said, he has great defensive magic and royal authority, which can get us past some annoying guards who may see us as a SWAT team that wants to destroy Equestria.

5. Cloud Kicker: I need a Pegasus here! Cloud Kicker (based on the fanfic, The Life and Times of a Winning Pony) is a strong fighter, being the daughter of royal guards and a Kicker, and she's quite speedy as well. Good replacement for Rainbow Dash.

6. Winona: Classic dog. Can sniff out the trail and tell us where to go. Although certainly not as strong as the other teams' non-ponies, you all will freakin' get lost, my friends! Being lost is the pretty much the worst possible thing, but Winona's sensitive nose can come in handy. Also, a great partner to Applejack, such as when she uses her rope, or when she's trying to herd enemies together.

Even if I seem biased, I have great (forgive me for my lack of modesty ^^) reasons to back my choices up.

1. ONE of the Mane 6. Twilight Sparkle. She's obviously the most OP'ed one of the Mane Six, and being an alicorn merely ups her stats. Why wouldn't we want a high level mage? They can be prima donnas at times, but you need them when you need something to take out a bunch of enemies at a time.

2. ONE side character or minor villain. Gilda the Griffon, because we need a scout that won't be shot down. Twilight is still a low level alicorn, and we can't afford to send her out scouting on those new wings of hers. Gilda can be self-centered, but then again, what rogue isn't? We'll need her speed and agility, as well as her tenacity. I think she'd hold her own in a fight as well.

3. ONE of the Cutie Mark Crusaders. (I notice nobody's picking Sweetie Belle...heh.) Applebloom, because while I really don't need children on my team, she could be a pretty good burglar if she kept her head. Besides, of the CMC she's the most independent and can act on her own. Plus her cuteness would be a good distraction, and offer moral conflict for our enemies over killing a child.

4. ONE stallion. Big Macintosh. All teams need a good tank, and we live and die by our tank. We need someone who can be a veritable meat shield, and also someone to draw aggro. Shining Armor is a good idea, but I think his HP would be lower, and for good tanks to succeed you need good HP and good weapons. Besides, he's already been proven canonically that his magic can be diminished by a Sombra-Spell. As an Earth Pony, Big Mac has a better deflection for spells and is more influenced by potions.

5. ONE background pony. Screwball. You know, that barking pony from Read It And Weep? Because we need someone to pin the blame on if the raid doesn't go down properly. And plus, EVERY team needs a psycho to charge ahead like a maniac, screaming obscene war cries that would probably get them banned.

6. ONE non-pony character (no major villains allowed). Zecora. Herbalist, hello? We all need potions and herbs to keep our morale/HP up. And having a booster on the team is very unfair, and very useful.

So yeah! That's my team to save Equestria!

(Writing this down, I would totally love a D&D style RPG game with MLP. o_o)

4. Filthy Rich. Gold income, check.

5. Royal Guard. Tank, check.

6. Little Strongheart. Rogue, check.

All set. This party's unstoppable.

Interesting thread, Tails! I'll try to answer this as honestly as objectively as possible.

ONE Mane Six character: With the first overall pick in the Equestrian Friendship League, Alfonzo Dennard selects... Twilight Sparkle, Magician, Princess Celestia's School for Gifted UnicornsLet's face it -- this is probably an unanimous selection. What's there to be doubted here? If there's any pony in Equestria to save it from danger (and she has proved it on more than one occasion), it would be her. She's got the smarts, wit, charm, drive, passion, and faith to bring it from the ground up and that includes rescuing it from the various evils that come into contact with the magical land on occasion.

Need to draw up a new strategy to get through an obstacle? No problem, that's her forte! How about creating spells to your convenience? Absolutely; she's already a master of magic! And how about a shoulder to lean on whenever you're in doubt, feeling sad, or need cheering up? Just talk to her and she'll tell you that everything's going to be all right, spoken in such conviction that it'd be enough to rattle the cages of even the most cynical-hearted of folks.

ONE side character or minor villain: Trixie. She's a master of illusion magic, and by my estimates I figure we could eventually devise escape plans in case we run into a scenario where we're overmatched somehow, either by bigger, stronger guys or just outnumbered. It's sometimes smarter to run than to fight -- while I would gladly beat the ever-living hell out of any threat that could harm Equestria, there's no shame in retreating and regrouping. Plus I love the attitude she displays -- lots of heart and passionate about herself, though it's not so much boastful anymore! Very endearing in its own way.

ONE of the Cutie Mark Crusaders: Apple Bloom. Contrary to popular belief, a filly can demonstrate greatness in her special ability even before she's discovered it. In Apple Bloom's case, she clearly appears to be adept at carpentry and design; this would be a huge convenience for anyone because saving the world usually means you're constantly on the move with your pals. In AB's case (and to quote Obadiah Stane from Iron Man), she can build something from a box of scraps... perhaps from inside of a cave. This means we'd get quickly-built housing serving as a temporary residence until we're ready to move out again, just to rest and recharge our batteries. With all of the other homes being potentially being burned to the ground due to attacks, I'd say acquiring shelter is a very underrated aspect of going on a lengthy mission such as this one.

ONE stallion: Shining Armour. Because you just can't turn down the chance of drafting not only a high ranking officer of Celestia's elite forces, but the commanding officer himself! His training is exactly what's needed for this sort of mission -- Shining, like Twilight, has the intellect and aptitude to get it done. Although he's definitely not as smart as his sister, he's got the big advantage in size, experience, and most importantly - physicals. I have no doubt that being able to exert yourself quite a bit will be critical at some point in the mission -- like moving huge boulders out of the way or getting something done by brute force alone. Close-quarters combat is another thing that could pop up -- who do you give the edge to? Shining.

ONE background pony: Flitter. I'll take the speed and the ability to fly (to possibly scout for certain things) here, plus she just looks like a total sweetheart. It is important to gain the positioning advantage over an enemy force that just so happens to have invaded your homeland, and this could change the game around.

ONE non-pony character: Spike. He gets lost in the conversation more times than I can appreciate -- everyone's so worried about ponies they forget about the little dragon that's often been a big part of their plans. Other than being a communication medium in contact with Celestia, it's important to note that he has good size. He's nimble, quick, and for his age and size, he's bright and strong, respectively. That makes him a good candidate to send out on recon once in a while either to scout on foot while at the same time being out of sight, because of the fact that he'd be hard to see due to his small stature. This also includes letting him go into some small spaces to get things that would normally be out of reach for larger folks because they're so big. Also... free fires! This often gets lost as well, but creating a source of heat and light on the go is important if you want to stay fresh throughout the journey.

1. Twilight Sparkle. Her magic was already very powerful, because she understood true friendship, even before she became a princess.

2. Princess Celestia, who may be the most powerful being in the show. I wouldn't count her as a side-character, though, but I don't know what her official classification is, if she has one.

3. Sweetie Bell, since she could probably do magic.

4. Prince Shining Armor, because of his excellent ability with defensive magic.

5. Daring Do. Her survival and problem solving skills would be invaluable.

6. Reformed Discord. I assume he doesn't count as a major villain, since he is now on the side of good. His powerful magic would be a necessity.

1. Twilight Sparkle, hooves down. This rag tag team of unlikely heroes needs a competent leader with over powered magic.

2. Trixie. I never really got into the hype for her, but I'm sure she'd be useful. We might need to bait a trap.

3. Applebloom. Her accent is adorable, and she's probably the most useful of the CMC. Sweetie Belle can sing, and Scootaloo's scooter abilities COULD come in handy, but Applebloom's crafting abilities and unique perspective on most situations would be a very valuable asset.

4. Shining Armor. He can provide protection, and would probably be useful on the offense.

5. Berry Punch for comic relief.

6. Remember that rather controversial spell from 'Keep Calm and Flutter On'? The reformation spell? The spell that would apparently force a creature into acting for the greater good against his will? Since my team is already equipped with Twilight, that would be cast directly on the Hydra. Transport, offense, and general badassery.

Well alright, my team's got a leader, bait, crafter, shield, drunk, and awesome mythological creature. I can't imagine any doomsday scenario where they wouldn't be able to save everything. I can think of only one team that would fit the rules and be more effective than the one I just listed...

1. Pinkie Pie. She's in the mane six.
2. Pinkie Pie. The first clone created in Too Many Pinkie Pies, that is. She had a speaking role and was never seen again, so that counts as side character.
3. Pinkie Pie. She was actually going to join the cutie mark crusaders, but then she got her cutie mark. Several years before the cmc existed.
4. Pinkie Pie. Pinkie's gloriousness transcends trivial physical nuisances such as gender.
5. Pinkie Pie. Again, one of the clones from TMPP. This one didn't get a speaking role and was only in the background.
6. Spike. Because someone needs to go get Twilight Sparkle when this plan horribly fails.

The center picture is hipster superman. The other four pictures are my favorite webtoon, anime, band, and comic. They're pretty obscure.

They might actually not be but I've never met anyone who's heard of them.
