Do earth ponies get any love?

I do think Earth ponies don't get a whole lot of love, I mean I don't see them often as OC's, but that said I guess its for the reasons you mentioned, they don't feel as they have any inciting special traits for alot of people.

 

I personally love magic in games and stuff, so I like Unicorns, but yeah.

 

I think maybe Earth ponies need more cannon abilities or something maybe, idk maybe it'll entice people to have more earth pony OC's. 

 

Theres no denying the lack of them, but I guess its due to having any flashy abilities like you said, magic, flight, ect.

 

Some people like em though, I'm hoping for more cannon on Earth ponies, maybe that'll help it.

Just because I prefer to be a Pegasus doesn't mean I don't LOVE Earth Ponies! I do agree they're underrated, and I do think they have magic in their own way - increased strength and food growing.

 

Even rarer than Earth Pony OC's are Crystal Pony OC's. Both races need way more love.

I was actually planing on making a royal guard OC that's an Earth pony. Also Pinkie Pie is my favourite. But yeah people like pegasi because they can fly and they like unicorns cause they have 'da magiks'.

A lot of my OC's are Earth Ponies, I try to keep them as evenly spread as possible.

 

But I never understood why Earth Ponies generally don't tend to get their share of the love. I guess it comes down to their utilitarian nature. Flying and magic are glamorous but Earth Ponies have their own strength that isn't as readily obvious.

 

In my own personal headcanon, I look at them in an RPG frame of thinking where each race has something that the other doesn't. A Pegasus is fast and agile but the fact they're specialised for flying means that they're also light and thus they lack endurance. A Unicorn has magic at their disposal, but they depend heavily on it, barely using their limbs. I always imagined Unicorns being generally frail having much less physical strength than the other two. Earth Ponies don't have any special powers but they do have brute force on their side. They offset the lack of special abilities with pure strength and speed on land. Pegasi dominate the sky, Unicorns dominate the aether, and Earth Ponies dominate the land.

 

Recall Rainbow and Applejack's contest. They were evenly matched, with Applejack especially excelling at pure strength events, and Rainbow being better at speed and precision events (with AJ being overall faster in a land race until RD used her wings).

 

So if they were to go into battle together, I imagine Pegasi as the attackers, able to deliver fast precision strikes. Unicorns would be specialists, delivering support from behind through spells and healing. And Earth Ponies would be the juggernauts, pounding through defences and taking the hits the others can't take.

 

Not to mention their oft-ignored ability to grow food. The other two races can't exactly live without food.

 

So I think Earth Ponies are every bit as powerful as the other races. They may not have a lot of showmanship, but that's how they like it. They're humble utilitarians, and they have the useful abilities most everypony else writes off as "boring".

I've actually come up with a way for the earth ponies to overthrow Celestia, but that's another story for another topic. Anyways, yeah I agree the lack of earth pony OC's is...disappointing to say the least. Personally, I chose the earth pony race because I relate to it. I enjoy doing physical labor and working hands on with stuff. This is what makes them so cool to begin with, they don't need special abilities like flying and magic to be special. Cause the difference between them and the others is that they actually work towards and don't use a crutch.

My personal theory is that Pinky Pie has unicorn blood in her. She looks like an earth pony, but her unicorn ancestor's genes are a major influence on Pinkie's physiology...and the result is her wild magic surges...without a horn, Pinky will never master the wild magic inside.

 

It's the same thing with Fluttershy. Her unicorn blood is far stronger than her pegasus blood. But pegasi control a racial magic, so she is better able to control her unicorn powers, magically speaking to animals and commanding them. She is weak in pegasus magic but a very powerful with her innate unicorn powers.

People forget just how important Earth Ponies are. They literally keep everyone else alive. it is their passive magic that lets crops grow. Without them, nopony eats. Not to mention they are stronger and hardier than the other races of ponies.

Yeah it is kind of sad to see they don't get as much love as the others do, but at the same time they kind of do get a lot of love from everyone. I know it sounds odd but hear me out. Lots and I mean LOTS of ponies LOVE pinkie pie and applejack and Bon Bon, sure you could say that more ponies love Rainbow dash and flutter shy but I think more ponies love the earth ponies more so then we think I for one do, Sure I LOVE LOVE LOVE Luna, but if I had to pick one from the mane six I would pick applejack, she's just like the best earth pony around love pinkie pie to death but apple jack is really sexy. Anyway just keep that in mind and on top of all that a lot of ponies that make there own character for MLP they make them Earth ponies well from what I have seen anyway

Let's put it this way, if the demographics on Equestria accurately reflected what the fans liked and made fanfics and art out of and Equestria was real, the majority of the population would be derping around the air as pegasi with a handful of unicorns overworked on the bureaucratic and management sides in Canterlot and elsewhere. Oh and that would last about several months give or take 10 days flat, considering that the disproportionate minority of earth ponies that would exist would never be able to produce enough food to sustain everypony else or running off on their own adventures.

 

Discord would barely have to lift a finger to just have Equestria burn up in chaos.

I love Earth ponies! Out of all races, they're my favorite. In fact, I think i'm teh only person who put on a different favorite race than the favorite pony.

 

Eath ponies are really sute, and not only that, but somehow I find it easier to develop their character more; especially in fics. For some reason, they're just the most appealing to me.

When designing OCs, I select a species that suits their outlook and cutie mark. Most people will create their ponysona based on their self-perception (or an alter ego), so its not surprising to see more unicorn, pegasi, alicorn, or OP OCs; the intrigue with flight and/or magic, or just being overly powerful draws quite a crowd. It doesn't necessarily reflect our view of the other species though.

 

I genuinely love every member of the Mane 6. It's hard to really pick a "favorite" since each of their personalities are so endearing.

 

The best back story I've read so far is Key Gear's. She's a resilient and captivating character who is best suited as an Earth Pony.

That's the problem there. People automatically jump to the conclusion that wings and magic are the only things worth 2 cents in a character and thus shun away from earth ponies (and many nonponies since the fans have an overwhelming but understandable ponycentric bias). Mind you though as I've said before even though many fans make the mistake of basing unicorns and pegasi to Twilight and Rainbow that's hardly the case. I have seen plenty of fans unfairly deride earth ponies often as boring, weak and inferior, pretty racist specist if you ask me for folks that say they "love and tolerate." 

 

What makes characters in the show like Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy unique is well, they're pretty unique which helps make them good characters. Neither is reliant upon preconceived "racial traits" to make themselves stand out with their abilities, unlike Twilight, Rainbow or Applejack, sorry gals its the truth. In fact for example if MLP was an MMO like Fallout Fluttershy ironically would have a very high persuasion skill and have an arguably much easier time getting past those slavers, super mutants and Enclave soldiers than the likes of Twilight or Rainbow trying to force their way through via technology and brute force.

 

By the way I wouldn't say "no one" would not choose to have wings or magic they could choose otherwise. I would more than likely prefer to be an earth pony and/or a donkey as opposed to the popular 2 default choices for one.

Generation 5 confirmed that they do, in fact, get love. For goodness' sake, they made an earth pony an alicorn at the delight of many earth pony fans.
