I've never read anything more than a summary of Cupcakes and I doubt I'll ever go beyond that, but if you need help getting over it then I might give this a go.

I remember the first time I watched it, I was scarred for about 2 months. Luckily for me, I have a very strong stomach, and I don't usually get sick or feel queasy at something (Heck, I once ate a ham sandwich while watching this video of a praying mantis eating a goldfish alive, and worse stuff too...) But cupcakes really scared me, and if cupcakes scared me, then there's got to be something special about it.  Anyways,then I told myself 'It's just a fan-fiction, there's a reason why it;s called a fiction'. and after that I started to see the humorous side of it. Don't worry, everyone gets scared sometimes. Just watch the smile song and smile, and know that Pinkie wants to make you happy!

Never had any problem with any of the horror fics or fanvids... But yeah, I'm a horror movies and books fan and I've read/watched stuff much scarier and disgusting than that so... And IMO, most of the MLP horror fics are so badly written than they are more laugeable than scary. I must admit that there is one pretty cool Cupcake vid on Youtube, though...

Cupcakes is actually a decent fic. If you're okay with some grossout material, the characterization is excellent, the writing is superb, and the gore is very creative. I'd actually recommend it, if you have a strong stomach.

Yeah I mention it way more than I should and I actually did it today. Heck I should not have even replied to this thread! I'm stupid. I have no interest in disturbing or gory fanfic, but I also have no interest in most shipping stories. That's just me. I do find it funny how certain memes, ideas take hold.

No, you most certainly are not considering the large amount of topics we have had discussing how people do not like negative fanfiction.

There are many people who feel the same way you do, and many threads have been made before.

 

And a fanfic made you dislike the character? A fanfic doesn't effect their canon personalities or actions at all, otherwise the mane 6 would all be horrible, horrible depraved ponies.

I generally don't enjoy grimdark in general (except for LMR) so I'd be inclined to agree about hating Cupcakes Especially because of how overrated it is.

To be honest, it's not the idea of cupcakes that I don't like, since it's just supposed to be a shock gore fanfic, but it's just not written all that well. It's way too widely known for something of its caliber. I don't understand why it's so widespread, but I guess it just somehow had the right combination of stuff to become well known.

I think it is hilarious, it is so over the top that I can't take it seriously. It is the same reason why I like the Lobo comic series, the level of violence is so insane that to me it is like an extremely gory version of Looney Toons.

Cupcakes is bland goreporn. There's really no art to the scare factor, it's just blood and guts thrown around as a cheap trick. Anybody can write blood and guts, it takes a true artist to weave a terrifying tale.

 

Cupcakes ruined grimdark for MLP as a whole. It became the standard grimdark fics are held to which is cheap mediocrity.
