Have you ever been in the Hospital for a severe reason?

As a child I was very sickly.  I was in and out of the hospital all the time for various reasons.  Some days I was coming down with severe fevers and others I was urinating dark blood.  All sorts of crazyness.

Hmm, let's see...

When I was little (about 7) my skull was cracked open when I fell once and I had to get staples in my head.

I was bitten in the head by an animal and had to get strong antibiotics to prevent a severe infection.*

I had to get more antibiotics to prevent a staph infection from damaging my eye and possibly blinding me.*

*At an emergency care center but not really a hospital (But still severe)

I have been there twice. The first reason wasn't that severe, but the second one was, at least to me. When my family and I talked about the second reason to my doctor later on he didn't think I needed to go to the hospital. He could be right, but it felt severe to me at the time.

The first time I had to go to the hospital was when I was young kid, and I had the rotavirus. That was, hands down, the most horrible disease I've ever had. I threw up constantly. I think I threw up 12 times in one day. I couldn't sleep, because I kept throwing up so much. It got so bad that my parents took me to the hospital, where I received treatment that helped me to stop throwing up. I went home that night. I threw up a 13th time the next day, but that was the last.

The second time I had to go to the hospital was when I was somewhat older, but still a young kid. I remember I woke up, and was having a lot of trouble breathing. I went into the bathroom, and the noise I made woke my parents up. They tried turning the hot water on in the tub to loosen up my breathing passages, but that didn't work. My dad called 911, and a firetruck came to my house virtually immediately. They came in and I think they gave me some kind of breathing mask, or pumped gas into my throat to relax it, I'm not sure. The ambulance arrived a few minutes later. They came in with a stretcher, put me on it, and wheeled me into the ambulance. I know in there the EMT administered this gas to me that relaxed my throat, to help me breath easier. He was awesome. He was really nice to me and helped me to calm down, and I remember he gave me a stuffed animal, too. I ended up having to stay at the hospital for a few hours. I got an X-Ray of my throat, and they put small tubes in my nose that they pumped oxygen through. I remember they gave me a free video game that taught you about asthma. They knew I didn't have it, but I think they decided the game would help me anyway. They gave me a pump to spray medicine into my throat, and I was able to go home that day.

Split my foot in half one day, took me a damn long time to even get to the hospital since I couldn't stand on it without almost falling unconscious because of the pain.

Although that was pretty severe the most severe thing I went to hospital for was because of some unknown stomach disease that made me puke up everything I tried to eat alongside with plenty of blood. Received all sorts of crazy drugs and medicine later and it seemed to fix the problem for some reason. Even now I still don't know what kind of disease I had back then.

I went to the hospital once, it could have just been a clinic actually, in elementary school for extreme dehydration. Being so young, I had no clue what was happening or why I was there so it was a pretty scary experience.

A couple of years ago I worked so hard and fast I tore a hole in my abdominal muscles. I could feel my intestines just underneath my skin. It was a hernia. Pretty bad one too. I thought only old people get them. Nope.

Operating room. Knock out gas. cut me open and sewed me up.

I had 3 sets of stitches and a plastic mesh inserted to hold me together.

spent 6 weeks playing video games after that.

getting cut open is no fun. Not something I would ever want to experience again if I can help it.

Ugh, worst feeling ever. I can remember being admitted for a kidney infection. The docs said I was a few shakes away from kidney failure, and that was the most painful visit. I was in TONS of pain and morphine does NOT agree with me.

BUT! If you're feeling bad, go. Your health isn't something you should joke around with. Even if it's not super serious, docs and nurses can give you more insight on how to feel your best and keep it up.

I hope you feel better soon!

Age 4: Had to get 4 stitches under my nose, i ended up ripping that little bit of skin between my nostrils off after I fell (No scar, no deformation, but I'm now deathly afraid of needles)
Age 10: Broken wrist
Age 15: Dislocated knee cap

I was actually going to reply no to this, but if you're considering broken bones to be a serious enough cause then I have been in the hospitable for that.  Other than that, I had one minor surgery to have this boil-ish thing taken off the back of my head.  It only took thirty minutes and it didn't require anesthesia or IV's or anything.  So I wouldn't even count that because I went home right after.

So I've been in the hospital once for a broken leg.  Then again I left after the x-rays and I got the cast so that's kind of disqualified too.

I've never had to be in the hospital for a prolonged period of time.

EDIT: I don't consider either of the aforementioned incidents to be 'severe'.

Thankfully no, because I dislike hospitals, and needles, and medicine, and pain, and anything involved in stuff thats got to do with hospitals or going to one.

I hope I will never have any broken bones or stuff like that, but I know I probably will. if not i'll have some kinda surgery if i get old enough i'm sure.

I don't know if i'm all that pain tolerant or not, I mean I can stay quiet about pain or things bothering me or whatever for a while, but i'm not sure how tolerant I actually am of pain.

Anyways, as of the moment i've yet to be to the hospital for anything severe(That I know of). I hope I don't, and I hope I don't jinx myself.

When I was first diagnosed with Diabetes I was admitted to the ER. The doctors there took the helpful step of telling me that if I had come to see them any later I would have died.

(At the point when my friend finally drove me to the ER, I was throwing up, in constant pain, dehydrated, lacking potassium, pale, and barely able to move)

This is kind of a funny story, actually. :3

I believe it happened roughly three years ago. It was a beautiful day in the city of Townsville. I had recently moved into a new apartment - in a new city - and I went out to buy some groceries during the evening, on foot, and on my own. Again, I didn't know the city in the slightest, so I had to ask for directions all the time. Anyway, I made it to the grocery store, bought everything I needed and was on my way back home, somehow holding four-and-a-half bags and a huge gallon of milk between my arms (the gallon, for its part, didn't fit in the bags).

I knew more or less where my apartment was from where I was, so I took a slightly different path on my way back. I was thinking about daily ordinary stuff, trying my hardest to balance all of those groceries, until my foot decided to hide itself in a hole.

I immediately fell face-first on the ground since, somehow, I couldn't free myself from those bags. I guess they were holding onto me as fiercely as I was holding onto them. The result? Food scattered all over the sidewalk, clothes soaked in milk, pedestrians choosing whether to laugh or to help, and three ugly stitches on my chin.

So yeah... I stepped in a random hole on the street and ended up in the hospital having my chin stitched up. Blood and milk everywhere 'n such. I'm glad I'm able to laugh at that nowadays, though. xD

I remember a long time ago I got a bee sting while I was outside.

I also got a seizure a few years ago while I was eating breakfast.

In 2011, My mom got in a not serious car accident while me and my sister was riding, but we weren't hurt or anything, but we have to go to the hospital for a check.

I have been to the hospital to see people for their severe reasons, but I have never gone to the hospital because something happened to me.

My life in uneventful. Not much to hurt me, and nothing is wrong with my health.

I guess I'm fortunate.

I haven't had any major injuries or concerns with my own health, no. I have been there  for some of my family members when they had to go through surgery. Twice. Back surgery both times. One of them had scoliosis, the other had problem where a disk was pinching a nerve.

Buck yes I've been to the hospital for serious reasons!  I've been there at least four times due to suffering an anaphylactic shock from ingesting some kind of tree nut on accident (quite allergic to tree nuts, but not peanuts), and most recently late October, 2011 on account of a sudden case of appendicitis.  That was the first and only time I've ever needed major surgery of some kind, specifically to get my appendix removed, and by God's grace it went very well, and now I don't ever have to worry about my appendix bursting ever again. :muffins:  Yay!  :yay:

I was in the hospital last December for a minor neck surgery.  And then a massive infection and four months later (still with the same infection)  I go back to the hospital (a different one actually) for a massive right side facial dissection in the same area, because the first doctor didn't know what he was doing.  I have healed amazingly well since and the scar is starting to disappear just a tiny bit.

I've had both hands put back together after being crushed by a steel I-beam. I've had my left knee rebuilt after severing the ligaments in it. I've had full-on pneumonia where I could have died, supposedly.

That's about it.

Well, I went multiple times when I was a baby, but anything nearer? Nope, only for my mom, who's kidney's are getting attacked. Other then that, I wasn't ever there.
