Musical Instruments

I've played the trumpet for about four years. I'm decent at it, but I'll blame that on getting my braces on and off in 14 months, that's a really bad excuse though. Though trumpet has opened up new friendships, especially in marching band.

Drummers around the world unite B) ! So yeah, that's what I play (although I have no instrument of my own...sadly, I don't have the space nor the money :( ...but i do go to classes where I can use a drum kit). Anyway, I've been playing it for 2 years now, and it's great! There was a game called Percussion Freaks that I played in a mall that I totally loved! (If Pump It Up was an instrument, I'd play that though  ), The more I played, the more I liked it. One day, looking for stuff that I could do in the summer so I wouldn't be a lazy bum throughout the whole thing, my mom told me if I wanted to play an instrument, told her yes, drums, and so I started. Plus, it's the perfect instrument for me. I'm very hyperactive, love doing things with rhythm, allows me to tire myself with my whole body, and I'm very nervous. if there's one thing that helps you channel energy and explode with it, it's a drum set ^_^ . Although, I would like to play other instruments, such as a violin, a flute, a keyboard/piano, and maybe a guitar. As well as other percussion instruments. Hell, I found myself practicing with the acoustic guitar we have at home, only instead of playing it the traditional way, using the body rather than the chords  .

I used to play drum's back in middle school and my freshman year of high school. I played for my middle school's jazz band, and I almost joined my churches youth band (though I never did :( )

I also played bass clarinet for a year...but I wasn't really a big fan of that.

I really want to get back to playing soon, but I just never seem to have the spare time. :/

I played the Flute for four years and I'm really good at it. I own a guitar and keyboard but I have no idea how to play them. I mostly use them as decorations.

I've been playing the piano for 9 years now. I dunno if these count, but I've also played the recorder a bit and the viola in elementary school, but purely for school. I liked neither as much as the piano. I'm just gonna keep at it until I'm super good!

The only thing I don't really like about pianos is that they aren't portable unless you have a keyboard...

I play a Fender Strat electric guitar (20% cooler) and an acoustic nylon string classical guitar (sans 6th string...need to replace it soon).

I'm more of a rhythm guitarist than a lead, though I'm slowly learning lead guitar as well...

I think everyone already knows that I play cello:

I think it is pretty obvious that I don't play anything else?

And NO, that is NOT cello love.

Little heads-up here - I found two existing threads about the musical instruments you play, and merged them together with yours. :)

Oh sorry about that!

But thanks for doing so. Makes everything feel a bit more organized anyways :D

I didn't see any so I ended up posting my own, I guess I was wrong. Sorry again!

I play a lot of instruments, and I mean a lot. My first instrument is my cello, and I've been playing that for 8 years. I also play drum kit, piano, steel drums, timpani, marimba, bells, snare drum, bass drum, chimes, and most of the other percussion instruments. I also sing on occasion, but i'm not really great at singing. I'm better at my other instruments.

Do iPad apps count?

Cuz, um.

I have Beatwave and Falling Stars.

Not kidding, I created tunes in both. I just have no idea how to convert them to MP3, WAV, MIDI, or any other format that can be shared properly.

Also, does anyone else use their own body?

I remember mentioning I drum on my lap a lot, even tap my own belly (rofl). But I can whistle fairly good as well, though my range is rather small (can only do medium-frequency notes). I'm also rather skilled at snapping fingers, I even use my ring AND middle fingers (where most people just use the middle) of both hands.

I was inspired by squidward and took up the clarinet in grade 10. I still play, but I haven't really done much since playing in the highschool band. I practice with both "fancy" and fun songs, like this year I learned to play that cantina song from Star Wars :P

I can also play a little piano, but I'm nowhere good enough yet to play UN Owen Was Her yet (Personal long-term goal.)

So as you could see, I play le tuba, and I also have played/play the piano, trombone, trumpet and a little bit of fife. If you can consider it an instrument, I muck about with Reason 6.5.

For all you violin posters, I got a few questions, as I plan to take up the instrument:

Did you self teach yourself or get lessons? (I plan on getting lessons, but just wondering what you did)

How long did it take each of you indivitually (I know it varies for each person) to learn to play some intermediate songs?

Do you enjoy the instrument?

Was it very difficult to start out with it?

I'm the first chair alto saxophone in the school jazz band (oooh! Such a talented group! Not.) And as anyone who plays a saxophone will tell you, if you can play one, you can play them all.

I took piano for years as a kid, but didn't enjoy it and quit. My sister is an amazing pianist, and now I'm regretting giving that up.

I've also been told I can sing when I actually put effort to it, and I'm working on beatboxing so I can get into an a cappella group either as a singer or beatboxer.

I play the guitar left handed like Kurt Cobain :3. I also want to learn how to play bass and drums. Singing would also be good to learn since I can write lyrics.

You know, being a drum player for more than two years, I still have a weird manner of playing. I play in a drum set for a righty...with my left hand (and I'm a righty!) I play the hi-hat with my left hand, and the ride with my right hand. I've never seen a drummer do such a thing, to be perfectly honest.

  • 5 months later...

Over the years, I've picked up several instruments and started playing them. I play the clarinet, baritone, trombone, I'm in my schools's drumline and I'm learning piano and chello now.

I learned to play the clarinet in sixth grade and played it into mid-eighth grade for my school band. From then until last semester I played the baritone, just recently picking up the trombone at the turn of the grading period. I've been in marching band for two years now and been in the drumline since I started. Finally, I've been working on my piano for ten months or so and my chello for four.

I've been playing the Clarinet for 3 years. I'm not the best, but not the worst either. Recently played some pretty awesome music.
