The sun may kill us all in less than a week

Ah dammit. My order of Majora's Mask won't get here until late next week.

If it's not the moon, it's the sun amiright. :P

I'm not worried about it. We've had enough near-death shenanigans on our planet in the past.

Sorry, but according to the weather up in Illinois, it's too cold for that crap.

In all seriousness, I would've probably seen something about this trending on Facebook by now. This sounds like one of the biggest conspiracy theories ever.

You know, the irony of this is Majora's Mask 3D releases in a few hours. And that games about the moon crashing into the earth. That's clearly NASA trying to advertise the game except with the sun.

If you've never heard of an Ozone Layer. Please go back to school. No offense bro.

You learn this in like the first grade(Not serious with that statement)

The ozone layer is basically a shield that protects the earths atmosphere from those kinds of events. Solar Flares however, can cause damage depending on it's strength. It does release radiation and can cause some harm to humans. It can also cause magnetic disturbance and can literately FRY our power grids and leave the earth in the dark.

If the sun was getting hotter, so would the planet. The ozone layer is also a filter which rids of the carbon monoxide and dioxide released into the atmosphere. As I said, the Ozone Layer is a shield that absorbs and reflects the suns UV Radiation which keeps us safe. Without, ofc we would be screwed. No studies have shown that the ozone layer is no longer there. It'll always be there as long as we don't screw it up anymore than we already have.

The energy from the sun also controls weather. If the sun was going crazy. So would our weather. Mother Nature would kill us before the sun does. It can cause violent weather such as hurricanes, tornadoes, typhoons.. snow storms whatever...

Basically at that point, it would be an end of the world situation (Maybe?). Then you could panic. (Don't).

Is it supposed to protect Earth? I've never heard much about it.

The Ozone layer is a layer of the Earth's atmosphere that protects the surface from the suns solar radiation and heat, it also keeps allot of the heat in also.

Also we got the Earth's magnetic field that usually protects us from solar flairs, that is what Aurora Borealis (Northern lights), the magnetic field deflecting a solar flair.

I highly doubt this. I couldn't even find the article OP mentioned.

But hey if the world were to end in a week. At least I'll have my Princess Luna plush by then.

I have my Fluffle Puff too, we good!

I've recently heard a rumor about NASA ans the sun. It has a big solar filament, the biggest recorded solar filament and the second biggest thing in the solar system, only the sun itself being bigger. Solar filaments cause solar flares, just like sunspots, but the solar filament will cause a huge one, and maybe it'll point to Earth and wipe us all out. :( Farewell, at least a possible farewell. Be prepared to die a very painful death, and prepare for blindness too, it's extremely bright and hot.

First, relax. The Earth gets hit by solar flares all the time. This is nothing new. Now, if it helps, we have the Ozone layer, which helps to absorb excess ultraviolet and infrared radiation. Even better than that the Earth has its magnetic field which totally deflects dangerous solar radiation and keeps us safe.

Evidence? Something like this may be theoretically possible but I think what is far more likely is a solar flare creating an electro magnetic pulse which knocks out the power grid and renders pretty much all electronics worthless. Yes there is an increase in solar activity and there is a strong possibility of said EMP happening but I haven't seen any evidence of a possible solar flare strong enough to fry all life on earth though if the power grid does go down there will be a fairly significant loss of life due to riots/food shortages and of course all the people that rely on electronics to survive like dialysis patients, people in comas and people with pacemakers.
