Is there a character that you don't understand why everyone likes?

Sorry for the awkward phrasing. Is there a character (or characters) that everyone seems to like, but you're either indifferent or against? For me it's Starlight Glimmer, but that's only because I'm not past Season 3 and haven't encountered her yet. She has a big following, but I'm not sure why just yet! 

For a long time it was also Fluttershy. When I was a teen I thought she was annoying (but I love her now).

For me? Probably Thorax. Some people say he's the cutest character in the show and I'm sitting there like "eh... I'm not sure about that"

For me, Rainbow Dash. She's just not a character I like, she's just annoying and loud. Although I love her voice actor.

In the begginning I didn't understand why people liked Fluttershy either, she was such a pain with her "shyness" and "CUUUUUUTE squeeking" OH MY GOD SOO CUUUUUTEE but to me she really wasn't. I got annoyed that her whole character was only "CUTE and SHY" and nothing else. Luckily, she's developed and I can actually stand the thought of her now.

It's weird how these two are the most popular characters on the show and I just don't get why.

 

The character I have started to dislike now is Twilight. She's not making any character development, she's just there. Not really being the Twilight I liked from the start anymore. Her character not as well written anymore.

Nobody likes Stygian.  He was that one time thing that just... Didn't do much. It also solved too quickly.

I don't understand the whole memization process for Princess Celestia or background ponies, as mentioned above. I don't want to go with polemic with fans of them, because nobody will win the discussion. Same would go if someone would try to argue with me about Starlight being or not being the best character in the show.

I understand why they became a thing, but since I started watching the show in late 2016, I never really had the need to pay attention to them until I saw Slice of Life, and even then it was a 1 time thing.

Marble Pie - she has no personality, and I don't see anything cute in her.

Sunset Shimmer - a Mary Sue with unpleasant voice.

Braeburn - An overly talkative, arrogant idiot with an annoying stupid voice. Everypony else may be gay for him, but I'm not!

Babs Seed - A fat bully with an ugly color scheme and design who never got punished for her actions. Her accent is annoying too. I'm glad we never saw her again after season 3.

Reformed Discord - He was an awesome villain, I know. Now he just pops up a couple of times each season and is just creepy and annoying, and not endearing in the slightest. IMO, he's WAAAY too much of a liability for the Mane 6.

Starlight is the best character. She's totally one of my favorites

I'd have to say the assortment of background characters we've had over the years. I can understand some aspects of why they are liked by the fandom but sometimes they go overboard with it to the point where I can no longer appreciate that particular character.

GlimGlam - although, I shan't say that everypony liketh her; the love of many is a mystery for me.

Not to step on anypony's hooves, simply stating. Methinks the idea of reforming EVERY villain is merely dumb. Besides as the result of "reforming" she became an "omnipresent" arrogant wannabe *facehoofs* She shan't be so annoying, if 't be true some git in the production team didn't force her that deliberately.

For those being sad because of mine opinion hither: mind that the fans' reimagining of Starlight is frequently immensely better than the "canon image", I guess due to the aforementioned facts, fans don't fall for.

GlimGlam for sure. It seems people love her or hate her. I loved her as a villainess but hate her as the Twilight clone they're making her into now. 

Also, reformed Discord and pretty much all reformed baddies (except Luna).

Can the obsession with BG Ponies even be counted as CANON? Seems more like it's really about fan-created content rather than what was actually in the show (Slice of Life aside, but that all came from said fan content).

Rainbow Dash. She’s alright, I guess. Why she’s so raved about though, I don’t know. She acts ‘cool’, which is childish and annoying. She complains about everything and thinks too much of herself. She’s ungrateful, ignorant, lazy, ironically disloyal...please don’t hurt me Dash fans.

I just don’t get it. Do people inspire to be like her? There’s better characters with better values.

Outside of the obvious answers being the background ponies, I have to say Marble Pie.  She is just so painfully boring.  There is nothing to her outside of looking cute.  If she had a less appealing character design, I highly doubt she would be anywhere near as popular as she is.  Plus accidentally suggesting incest in Hearthsbreakers also played a hand in turning me off from her.
