Do you have a feminine or masculine side?

Phasereale

Recommended Posts

I have a feminine side, but I'm not gay or transgender. I'm still straight. I have tried on women's clothing, wore make-up, and applied finger nail polish to my finger nails before and I was wondering. Do you ladies have a masculine side or do you gentlecolts have a feminine side as well?

I know this sounds personal, but try your best to answer

So here's the thing with this topic, and a lot of people refuse to believe this is true but here it goes:

Everyone has a masculine and feminine side reguardless of your gender/gender identity

This is because "masculine" and "feminine" are just words. Now in definition masculine is: " having qualities or appearance traditionally associated with men, especially strength and aggressiveness." But note that it says "traditionally", which is not definitive. Such as this definition says: "As a social construct, it is distinct from the definition of the male biological sex. Standards of manliness or masculinity vary across different cultures and historical periods." Note the last part says "standards of manliness or masculinity vary across different cultures and historical periods."
Nowadays most men wouldn't find it "masculine" to have bows on their shoes, or ruffles in their shirt. But it was back in the day. Now it's seen as more feminine to have bows and ruffles. High heels in fact were originally for men. Now they are seen as feminine and only for women.
Feminine is defined as: "having qualities or appearance traditionally associated with women, especially delicacy and prettiness."  Again there's that word "traditionally". And of course what is considered feminine varies from cultures and historical periods, that too goes without saying.

So the best way for someone, in my opinion to view these two things in a healthy manner within themselves is to embrace both. I know I do. For example, I'm a male but right now, I have on pink nail polish. Pink is one of my favourite colours. I tend to like nail polish from time to time. Now, I don't crossdress, but I've also worn make-up, especially eyeliner.
Hell, there are guys on here that are already (by social standards anyway) embracing a feminine side and that's watching the MLP show! That's considered feminine by the majority of society and no one here gives a flying frick.
I find people who try to adhere to these strict social constructs tend to limit themselves. Now, if you naturally like masculine or feminine things, that's fine. But there's no reason to not explore the realms of both. Even within the balance of the universe there are these " masculine" and "feminine" qualities, that don't really denote specifically male or specifically female. They are just balancing strength and assertiveness with gentleness and beauty.

I feel like a tomboy sometimes (mostly because I’m too lazy to do girly stuff and sometimes I just don’t like it), but I never considered it a bad thing. I’m a huge gamer and I just do things that sound “masculine” sometimes, but it’s not like you have to be 100% feminine to be a girl or 100% masculine to be a boy.

My feminine side is most of my true self at this point. I wear girls' pajamas to bed every night and I identify with more feminine qualities than masculine ones. I actually have been wondering if I might be transgender.

I'm a straight female, but I have both a feminine and masculine side. I like wearing pink, I like wearing girl clothes...as long as their not TOO girly , I am very fangirly...many times I act somewhat feminine. But then many other times I'm very tomboyish, like to the extreme. I love cars, trucks, race cars... I mean I can be a total gearhead, I love playing sports, I'm not very big into fashion....etc. It really just all depends on my mood.

And I really believe everyone, no matter your gender or sexual orientation, has both a feminine and masculine side.

I've definitely got both. I seem to have the emotions of a woman based on stereotypes but the interests of a man. I've also been known to act very feminine as a joke.

Masculine and feminine may be concepts that are somewhat more nuanced and fluid by definition depending on culture and era, but it’s safe to assume most here are from this time period, so that narrows it down quite a bit. Most of the userbase here is from North America, Europe, and Asia which gives us buckets to compare and contrast feminine and masculine.

I honestly snicker at the modern pop-culturalism that one finds with this topic. Kindness is a social construct. Civility is a social construct. Generosity is a social construct. They also have a theoretical biological and evolutionary origin though. It’s fairly safe to posit that some elements that define feminine and masculine are more socially created than biologically. Clothing for instance has more in common with social inventions than biological genesis. However, such is not the case with movement or vocal pitch and tone. Both can have defined masculine and feminine traits, and both are have more than social standards. Hormones and chromosomes shape both. Society has adopted language to define both biological and non-biological elements of feminine and masculine. Some languages allow more subtlety than others. You can call anger “Charlie” to define and classify it, but irrespective of the name and definition, the concept exist and is biologically and evolutionarily rooted. Language itself is a social construct, but one also founded in evolution due to our inherent abilities and drive to recognize patterns.

Why do people feel the need to oversimplify everything with popular statements like “It’s a social construct”?

Do you mean something like

Jokes aside: As to the question of the topic, I have demonstrated what could be considered as feminine behavior and masculine behavior. I was probably more masculine as a young kid but I showed some feminine behavior like going around and singing my favorite song of "Girl's just want to have fun" (probably mostly influenced by my older sister).

These days, I think it is more balanced, but I give more way to masculine behavior as it holds more sway with me, but that does not mean I have to appear as some kind of a die-hard football fan (soccer for you Americans). That's not my forte. I do like having a nice quiet time and just sit down, get cozy and watch some movie or even drama shows such as "How to get away with murder" starring Viola Davis.

In the end, it does not really matter that much to me, so the question is not really personal in my eyes.

I'm a trans man who's comfortable in his gender, I could care less these days about appearing "feminine" or "masculine".  I mean, clothing doesn't really have a gender in the first place, it isn't like the clothes come off of the sewing machine saying, "I'M FOR MALES/FEMALES, NO ONE OUTSIDE OF THAT DESIGNATION WEAR ME!!!"  Want to wear that dress but you're a guy?  Wear the dress.  I mean, women were only supposed to wear dresses until a hundred years ago but look where we are now, women wear jeans whenever they want to(women's pants "pockets" are garbage though).  Blue used to be a women's "dainty" colour and boys would wear pink and look where we are these days, I wouldn't call that particular one progress but I'm just trying to point out that gender changes with the society it's a part of.  It adapts over time and I doubt "gendered" products are going to go away any time soon.

I like being male and I have no intention of ever changing that.
That being said; I like men, I like some types of women's clothing, and I like things neat and tidy.

So yes, it appears that I do have a feminine side.

I do have a mix of both sides, although I keep my feminine side locked away from others.

At first I rejected the zero, but that was because I simply didn't understand it. Now I do.

If you believe online tests then I'm more feminine than masculine. I've always thought those tests were dubious at best, but when I think about it they're actually right, at least in this one specific case. As for whether I'd consider transitioning, that's a big no. Not to be rude to anyone who is trans, but that just feels like I'd be lying to myself. I was born male, and until science evolves enough to completely rewrite people at a molecular level (which I doubt any of us will live to see. That would have to be some crazy sci-fi nano machine shit), nothing can change that.

I'm waaaay more masculine than I'll ever be feminine. But I don't have a lot of pride on that. Some days, I wish I could do things that're considered girly
