My school stalks my facebook?

In Mexico they can't even afford air conditioners in the classes o3o

I don't know how I even survived there >.>

But I still agree with OP, they shouldn't be reading people's private information, such as Facebook, or any sort of account.

First off, that is against the law, school districts cannot monitor Facebook accounts for "suspicious activity", sure, I might hate Facebook with the fires of 1000 suns, but that is an invasion of privacy. I'm sure the government will have a say in this, whether it's local, state, or federal.

Wow that's fucking stupid.. I mean really.. I am so glad my school doesn't do anything like that. They should stop stalking your private accounts ;o About blocked things, my school doesn't block anything at all, haha. Not even pornsites or thepiratebay. lol. Though I always use the 3G network on the phone so I only use the school's with the school computer. But again, your school stalking your facebook.. That is messed up and you should do something about it to make them stop doing that.

Thanks for agreeing with me. Not many people are agreeing. Alls I am is getting hate comments...so...yeah. At least someone feels me Edited by Swoop

Yeah I guess I could have and I apologize.

But she just can't call me a dumbass...

I get straight A's every year I don't think I'm dumb...

There's more than one way to be dumb, and getting straight A's doesn't mean your smart in every aspect. My sister get's straight A's and she still asks me for help in almost all of her subjects (especially science and math), she just knows how to work the system better than I do, has more patience, and is much more organized.

Me on the other hand, I got great scores on pretty much every test I ever took, but still got B's and C's, because the education system here isn't tailored for people like me, who learn new things quickly, then get bored and want to move on instead of spending days doing busywork.

That being said, I do think it was uncalled for.

I personally find it complete and total bullshit that they monitor your facebook, at least for stuff like this, I understand it for when there is bullying and harassment, but this is ridicolous, I know sugar sprinkles (she is my girlfriend) and I saw the pictures and video that was posted, nothing bad was being done in either of them and both were posted from her phone on her 3G, paid for by her parents, ans she is 18 and everyone in the picture and video wanted and did not care if it was taken, and the picture and video was set where only friends could see it, and you are not allowed to be friends with teachers or staff from the school, so that means that they had to have bypassed the security on her facebook to see it, and she is 18, meaning she has full facebook security privelages, and they were still able to access and see what she did, I count that as an invasion of privacy as it was set on a private setting, not public, and they still accessed it without her permission and threatened her with punishements for it, also the school has no rules in the handbook against taking pictures or videos and says that phones can be used during lunch and studyhall and in classes with teacher permission, so I don't know how in any of your eyes this could seem fair and just, but in mine it just seems an invasion of privacy and unfair

Even on private settings, you can usually see people's pictures.

And no, it's not just or fair, but it's the way it is, and legal action won't work against it unless it's something big, like expulsion. Again, complaining to the district administration might, but you still probably wouldn't have a good chance of changing anything :/

@@Sugar Sprinkles, Though, I heard somewhere that in the near future, maybe in just 20-30 years, employers will look at your facebook account or whatever you use to gather information about you. It will be like some part of when you send in information about yourself when you're seeking a job. I wouldn't be surprised if schools started to do something similar to this too, actually. Like official school groups and stuff that send messages to you about homeworks, haha. Edited by Mr. Nibblers

I just dont like people teaming up on me and making me feel like a bad person for my opinions. I mean, it is MY opinion and people should not judge me. I do not post anything bad on facebook, just one pic or 2 of me and my friends. I take away dumbass, I was steamed up by another pony calling me a drama queen after saying i want to leave, I just am a little upset

;_; I didn't wanna team up on you or anything. Btw that guy was only trying to say goodbye and he didn't want to stop you from making your own decisions.

In 20-30 years? They do it now, and have been for years. My first employer specifically told me not to try to BS out of work because he'd check any social networks I was on to make sure I wasn't faking illness or anything.

If we could possibly redirect the focus from the discussion of name calling, bruised feelings, and general forum theatrics, to something a little more constructive and on-topic, that would be greatly appreciated. ^^;

Honestly, I didn't think this was new. Our school repeat it each year and it's clearly written in the Agenda.

I'm going to quote it because I can:

Now, translating time.

Private life

- It's forbidden to say things that could hurt the honor or the reputation of the school commission's staff, students from the school commission or their family and friends.

- It's also forbidden to publish or post pictures of the staff or the students taken at school or during school activities, without the direction's permission, which will make sure to have the approval of the concerned people (or their parents) before giving their permission.

- Those rules are also applied during the use of social medias, blogs, forums (I think that's what they're talking about), and other technological tools during or after the school hours, at school or anywhere else.

Well, that's what my school says quoted word by word and translated in English. I agree with it personally because there have been suicides at my school and one of the girls in my class tried to suicide herself and came back with a huge scar in the face. What you have done may not be worth a punishment, but school has the right to go and check the social medias. I'm pretty sure my school isn't the only one that does it (according to the rules all the schools in my area does it too anyway) and the government probably already knows it anyway so it's not worth suing them.

In 20-30 years? They do it now, and have been for years. My first employer specifically told me not to try to BS out of work because he'd check any social networks I was on to make sure I wasn't faking illness or anything.

I heard about it too. In fact, they can even choose to not take you if they think you're not liable enough.

I might also had that teachers must always do things that are considered good by the school because they're supposed to show the example. Two years ago, a member of a school staff got fired because they found out that she did porno years ago. This ruined her chance of getting a school job forever now.

The federal government has allowed schools to monitor your Facebooks or whatever social media you are using because you took the pictures and used the service ON THEIR GROUNDS. They are responsible for whatever action comes out of your cyber antics, regardless if it's a harmless pic or not.

Once you step forth in school, you relinquish some of your rights as a student, but not all of them. When they mean "we respect not invading privacy", it's really bullshit because if they can find a reason for your actions to be "hostile" or "disturbing" to the school's environment, then they can get that for you.

Plus, you're in school. I don't know about you guys, but I never text or go online at school. You're there to learn, not socialize on Facebook. They just want you to have a good educational career, that's all.

Employers do it too. Businesses monitoring their employees like that is understandable, because it would be detrimental to abusiness to keep people around who might be disparaging the company. The most recent example that comes to mind is a waitress raging on her Facebook wall about spitting in customers' food or something like that. She definitely had to go. Now if an employee likes to get hammered on the weekends or even every night, but arrives sober an punctually every day and still able to fulfill what's required of him, then maybe they should leave him be. But I would still find it understandable if he got canned because if somebody who knows where he works sees him carrying on like that, they may get a bad impression of the company as a whole.

Now when it comes to any pre-tertiary educational institution, that is, any public school one would compulsorily attend until a certain age:

Posted Image

Your principal may have a point about people your age needing a parent's permission to do certain things, but seeing as he isn't your father, stating his opinion is about all he can do. It is not the place of ANY government institution to determine what a child does outside of school. If you want to put something on Facebook or any other website, the government (because that's actually what this is) has no say in the matter; what you're doing is entirely between you and your parents. Anything you do, no matter how crude or vulgar, would not reflect poorly on the school because it isn't the duty of the school to give you a moral compass, so the only people besides yourselves that would look like filth are your parents, because it is their responsibility. Not saying that you did anything wrong, just saying why the school can't do anything about it. The most the school can do is revise their policy on the use of phones so that nobody can use them on campus, and restrict what you're permitted to do online from within their own network. But they can't tell you what you can post to your own profile from anywhere else. The only reasonable exception being posting pictures of people who work there, because you would then be intruding on their lives. When I worked for a middle school some four years back I was constantly having to remind the staff of this. They kind of hated me for that and because I recognize public schrewl for the sham that it is, so then I quit.

I don't have a Facebook profile myself, but from what I understand there are privacy measures in place that can keep your school from prying. You might want to enable whatever options are available to you.

Thank goodness my school doesn't do this... (I think they don't anyways...) The school shouldn't be able to monitor your personal pages. It's in violation of your privacy and everyone else's. Honestly, the educational system thinks that we can't do a think on our own. It's crazy... I get in long debates with my teachers trying to get my views across on things like this. If your parents complain the schools will listen, if you complain then they do nothing. So tell your parents, and the school system will be forced to stop.

Thats messed up. Last year some kid called another kid a and I quote. "Faggot bitch who cant decide withc face to wear to school." In a PM. The kid printed it up brought it to the school and got the other kid suspended. I think its messed up if someone can release PRIVATE information and get in trouble. Its invasive and you should have told the principal to mind his own buisness. Thats what most kids I know would have done. Either that or they wouldnt care and wouldnt take it down regardless. Also there IS a way to make Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr COMPLETELY private to those who arent on your friends. Maybe you should try that?

It is very common for this kind of thing to happen, i took a picture of a friend sleeping in class (we are permitted phones in class) and there happened to be one of my tutors stood in the background, i posted the picture on facebook and a few hours later when i was at home i got a phonecall from my college telling me that i was in very serious trouble and that i must delete my facebook account and remove the pictures. We have several warning stages, Verbal > Final Verbal > Written > Final Written > Expulsion. I was put straight to final written and told if i so much as arrived late for college i would be expelled.

I wouldn't have minded had we actually been told the rules, the rule that states we cant take a photo of a tutor is in a massive list of rules we only see once, on sign up day, it is about 5 pages long and i doubt anyone reads them. We even have MOST of the rules on our college website but not that specific rule, which really bugged me.

What if kids were like, giving out answers, or even bullying people through facebook? Honestly, I don't think you should put personal info like contact details and all on the internet, anyway. There's nothing saying that they're not allowed to look at pictures that you put on a public sight. And if your school is like mine, then you're not allowed to take pictures inside the school. Which the people in question did. So not only did you break school rules, but you put it up on the internet equivalent of a giant billboard that everyone looks at.

It might be my bias against Personal Info on the internet, but I really think that the school didn't do anything wrong.

While I would love to agree with you on this, and believe me I do. You put it on Facebook which is available to the public, you can set up security measure yourself if you don’t want complete strangers looking at stuff you are posting. While I don’t think they should monitor student’s facebooks, or twitters, I would say it is completely within their boundaries to do so.

Stuff like this is partly why I don't use Facebook. I don't like the idea of my pictures or personal life being out there for anybody to see.

I also fully support any teacher who confiscates cell phones when they ring or when a student gets caught using it in class. I can't believe kids actually complain about this, nor do I believe any kid under 12 or 13 needs their own cell. When I was in school we had REAL problems to complain about. Like teachers who were so mean they made the kids cry.
