movies/tv What's your favorite movie? How about least favorite?

Hollow Wind

I loved the remake too. I especially liked how much emphasis he put on Michael' s childhood. The sequel that Rob Zombie made though was just plain crazy. All that stuff with the horse was really trippy, and overall the film was hard to follow. It wasn't horrible, but it was disappointing compared to the previous film.

There was a sequel to the remake? I had no idea! But yeah, I liked that they took a step back and kind of made you feel sorry for Michael. I like most of Rob Zombie's movies though. Even if they are strange...probably why I like them

Favorite Movies:

Ghostbusters - Perfectly paced, with multiple layers of comedy, set against an awesome sci fi plot. Ghostbusters was Bill Murray's finest moment, everything he says in this movie is perfectly executed comic gold.

Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas - A movie thats ultimately about nothing, and yet it's a damn fun and funny ride. It introduced me to the writings of Hunter Thompson who remains my favorite writer and his books are some of the most bizzare and funniest things I've ever read.

Lion King - A majestic master piece. This is the movie that made me fall in love with Hans Zimmer music, the combination of his music in the background, the beautiful and expressive animation, and the almost mythological feeling storyline... just a beautiful movie.

Least Favorite Movies:

Space Odyssey 2001: Pretentious, pretentious, pretentious

American Beauty: Pretentious, pretentious, pretentious

Citizen Kane: Just boring

My favorite movie would defiantly be Chronicle. Maybe because I can understand and relate to the main character Andrew.

Least favorite movie? There are so many bad movies that I have seen but recently I would have to say Disaster Movie. It really lived up to it's name. Nothing was funny about it, it was complete random stupidity, and what was the point of the whole thing? Fucking nothing.

Brokeback Mountain takes my top spot. It's got beautiful direction, amazing actors, and a knockout setting. The plot is riveting and moving, and it did what other movies haven't often done: made me cry.

On the other hand, we have Eragon. This hits especially hard because I loved the book. They ruined the character, skipped important plot points, and doomed the prospective sequel.

Phwoar, so many films and directors.

My favourite director is Alfonso Cuarón, no doubt. I haven't seen all of his films, but what I have seen from him is outstanding. Children of Men, particularly, had mind-blowing direction - the seven minute shot of Theo running through the coastline buildings was just unbelievable, it was like a short film in itself. It should have won its own Academy Award. (The film itself got three nominations, and it's a total outrage it won none of them!)

Pan's Labyrinth, in addition, was a wonderful picture. It managed to make me feel both entranced, saddened and thrilled... (scrapes off sugar coating) It was brilliantly directed - a truly remarkable and unique film.

Actually, Alfonso Cuarón directed a Harry Potter film. The third one. I liked that one the most - it simply gave you pure Harry Potter, and I noticed in particular when watching it the skill and art in the shots and the progression of events compared to the other films.

Alfonso Cuarón as a whole is an amazingly talented director.

You sir, get an automatic brohoof for including Wes Anderson and Moonrise Kingdom. He's my personal favorite director, and likely one of my core role models for movie-making.

I'm gonna have to provide my lists a little later. I've got a bus to catch in less than ten minutes from now.

Two directors that I can think of right now are Stephen Spielberg and M. Night Shamalayan. I actually haven't seen nearly as many movies as I've wanted to by now.

I'm not going to give a long laundry list of films (not in the mood, really) so I'll talk briefly about my three favorites- The Godfather, Citizen Kane, and The Empire Strikes Back.

The Godfather and Citizen Kane are really the best examples I've seen of a director making the best use of all of the tricks of the film medium to tell a story.  They're both character studies about one man's journey in life- Kane is a little more meditative and bittersweet, but at the same time big and dramatic, and makes you think about the choices made and the direction things took, while the Godfather just totally absorbs you and sweeps you into that world of organized crime.  There are a lot of little choices that Coppola and Welles make that draw the viewer in without the viewer being aware of it at all, and that's the mark of a great director.

Empire Strikes Back is a little different.  One of the reasons why I go to movies is to be swept away into a world that is so unlike our own, so much more fantastic and exciting, with a story you can get behind and characters you can cheer for.  That's what the original Star Wars trilogy was so masterful at.  And I think that this one, more than A New Hope or Jedi, This is where the established reality of Star Wars grows and matures.  You see the bond between Han and Leia grow much stronger, the maturation of Luke, and the established universe grows even more real and grounded.  Look at some of the shots of Dagobah, or the Cloud City skyline, or the approach of the AT-ATs on Hoth. That's not just technical expertise, that's *art*.  The atmosphere generated by this film is amazing.  And the music, which also builds the atmosphere, is in my opinion the best work of John Williams' career.

You gotta watch "Y Tu Mama Tambien", and yeah it might be a foreign film. However it is a prime example of what exactly Cuaron brings to films in general.

Personally I gotta say, Guillermo Del Toro. Simply because he's able to bring to life all of those amazing fictional scenes in a way that's believable to the audience. Have you seen that trailer for his new movie? It's simply amazing.

Bladerunner, one of the last films to be made in a true film noire style, well that actually had some success anyway. The musical score is amazing and the way the writers have left the ending open to interpretation is great. No hand holding or great expositional at the end (looking at you vanilla sky) just great writing.

What makes it even better is that the world feels believable and each release of the film (4 I think now) doesn't actually give up the answer to the question....

Is Deckard a replicant? Did he kill them all? Did he escape?
