Views on Shipping?

When I first joined the fandom, I was pretty confused by it. I didnt really like it.

 

 

Now I dont really mind I sorta applaud it actually.

I don't mind ships as long as they don't get in my way.  It pisses me off when I'm sailing and the ship comes out of nowhere and destroys my boat!

Shipping? Well, I have nothing against it. I actually enjoy a well-made ship every now and then. It can be really cute and sweet and all that happy stuff, and there is nothing wrong with that. 

 

Some of the, uh, explicit stuff, is way over the top for me. I mean, seriously, ponies. They are ponies, guys. But whatever floats your boat, I guess. It's just not for me.

 

I'm not exactly sure what ships I like... I don't really have a preference or anything. As long as they actually have a point of some kind, I like them. The random OC and pony ships, I don't really like, unless it's in a story and the OC is very well described, but I haven't yet found any good ones yet.

 

So yeah. Shipping. Depends. But I, for the most part, like it!

Hiya ^.^ I was thinking. Ever since I started writing shipping stories, what everyones views on it all was. I would like your opinions on it. Do you think it's good? Or are you against it? I for one find it immensely cute, and satisfying (major romance fan). What do you all think?

As for me, it depends on the pairing, but shipfics are actually the majority of what I read. I tend to enjoy them a lot.

 

Especially Rainbowpie ones.

Sort of... but with lots of limits. It can't be Mane 6 shipping, that changes their character, which I'm against. So it has to be background ponies, like Octavia/Vinyl, Bon-Bon/Lyra, Colgate/Berry Punch, etc. And it absolutely CANNOT be NSFW/Rule 34. Cuddling, hugging, that sort of thing? Sure, its kinda cute. Graphic sex acts? That'd be a big N-O. Basically it needs to be PG, tasteful, and with background ponies only.

I like shipping. I find it adorable. But I hate is when it gets dirty. It is a clean show (For the most part), therefore it should have clean shipping. I also don't really like female x female or male x male shipping. This is a minor issue though, because I don't mind it , just don't prefer it. But I don't blame them, it is kind of hard to ship on a show where most characters are female.

Definitely none of the NSFW stuff, but a little Pinkieshy and Rainbowshy is adorable. Pinkieshy because hnnng, and Rainbowshy because they've known each other the longest and are, in my opinion, the closest friends of the Mane Six.

 

Also I ship Discord with some of them ONLY for the hilarious shipping names. Discolight? Twicord? Glorious stuff.

It really depends. There are some shippings I like, such as Discord and Celestia, Spike and Rarity or Big Mac and Fluttershy, while there are other shippings I don't.

I can get into shipping on other shows, but I have trouble with it in MLP. When I ship, I usually ship canon couples, or couples that seem likely to happen. MLP only has a handful of those. The focus is so much on friendship for most relationships, I have trouble seeing the possibility of a romantic relationship developing. So I don't really care that much about MLP shippings, since there aren't any couples I can enjoy shipping.

 I generally like shipping. I don't read a lot of fan fics, but the art is too cute sometimes  . I also don't mind NSFW stuff that isn't too graphic. If it's tastefully done, I'm OK with it. I don't even care if the ships don't make sense. What fun is there in making sense anyway  ?

Many shippings can be cute, like Colgate and Berry Punch, Fluttershy and Dash, Big Mac and Cheerilee, etc.. 

Hell, even a Changeling and a Royal Guard can be cute sometimes.

 

But then there are those weird shippings, like;

Princest (Princess Luna x Princess Celestia)

Applecest (Apple Family Incest)

Fluttershy and............... trees. -.-

 

Basically, shippings can be taken too far.

So Im sure by now, most of you know what shipping and or "pony x pony relationships" are but, if you are not familiar with shipping or pony x pony, its basically romantic relationship between two or more characters. (usually between two canon characters.)

 

It is seen a lot with in fandoms, and there is no denying that is also with in the MLP:FiM fandom.

 

There are also a lot of role plays, Fanfiction, and Fanart, that have to deal with a pony x pony.

 

Examples of pony x pony:

Big Macintosh x Fluttershy~

 

 

 

Dr. Hooves x Derpy~ 

 

 

 

So what are your thoughts on shipping/pony x pony relationships?

 

Love them, hate them, feel that they are unnecessary?

I tend to dislike the idea of shipping any of the mane 6 with anyone else and sometimes each other because I feel that it's antithetical to the nature of the show.

 

Of course, I still secretly root for a couple of pairings here and there (AppleDash, RariJack, Sparity), and I do openly ship some mostly fan-made things (like Chryssi and Fluffle Puff, and Lyra and Bon-Bon) but I feel like anything involving the mane 6 is just kinda not right imho.

I'm generally fine with them as long as they're done well...i.e., if the pairing in question seems believable.

 

Furthermore, I see pairings that either A.) force homo/bisexual behavior upon a character who shows no signs of it in-show, and B.) split up an already-established canon romance, as total bullshit.

 

Using ATLA as an example, you've no idea how many fan ships I've seen where Kataang (the canon pairing) is split apart by some poorly-written breakup between Aang and Katara, just so that the fan in question can ship Zutara or Taang or whatever. Bull. Shit.

 

Characters who don't show any romantic interest in any other characters one way or the other, though, are fair game in my book...again, so long as the ships are believable. As in, don't write characters out-of-character just to fulfill your own fantasies. Seriously - that shit's annoying. :okiedokielokie:

I personally think they're all adorable to an extent, and most of the time I support them. It really depends on the shipping for me. Like, the shipping should make sense, the characters involved should at least have interacted once or twice in the series, and it should be as realistic as it can canonically be.

 

I've seen too many shippings that just seem a little forced and really unfitting. Take MLP fan-shippings as most obvious example. Fluttershy x Big Mac, they've never interacted once in the series. Fans just like to ship them because of their personalities alone.

 

Shippings like that just generally seem forced and most of the Mane 6 lesbian shippings seem OOC(out of character) for the most part.

 

I respect that it is in most of the fan's interest to ship characters like that, but that's just not my cup of tea personally.

 

For me, I'd like it to be believable and make sense!

Just as House Greyjoy has their motto "We do not sow.", I believe in "I do not ship." being one of my own.

 

I simply cannot shake off the feeling that if I connected one char with another, I'd somehow change their personalities and general depiction, not mentioning my views on them. I've realized that long time ago already and simply stopped caring for any kinds of shipping.

 

I'm leaving this kind of fun to others
