Well, which do you prefer and why?

Personally, I own some regular books and I own a Kindle Fire HD. So, from my experience...I prefer e-books. Why?

  • You don't have carry around several heavy books at once.
  • You can keep track of the spot you're in without worrying of losing the bookmark.
  • My Kindle lets me know how long it will take for me to read a chapter based upon my reading speed.
  • E-books are usually cheaper than hard copies.
  • E-books are easier to get a hold of.

How about you all?

Real books. I can't stand e-books or reading on the internet. I find that my eyes have a hard time easily going from line to line on the internet, and I often lose my place on walls of texts. This doesn't happen to me in real books. I also prefer real books because you can own them, ya know like a hard copy? I'm sure e-books are great for those who like them, they're just not my cup of tea.

Ebooks are rather annoying in some instances. They can be altered and you can lose everything. Plus...I can not read it in school on ebooks..

I often read fanfics on my iPad but I'd much rather read them as a regular books. I just like regular books better, reading on the computer is ok but it's a lot better to read the good old regular books. They can also serve as pillows when you get tired of reading them. So regular books all the way! Seriously someone needs to turn some of the fanfics into regular books, like Fallout of Equestria, I remember reading somewhere that they were actually thinking about doing that. Or maybe my memory is wrong, I think I'm wrong but it would still be awesome. I have an easier time reading regular books.

I cannot stand reading from an electronic device. You don't get the same feel from holding a book and flipping each and every page as you get from "tap tap, scroll , scroll, tap"

It is a shame that all the local bookstores have gone out of business because of those accursed e-reader whatchya mackallit things.

For me it depends on what type of book. If it is a book I'm going to be reading for pleasure then I prefer Ebook format because I can read it on my iPhone anytime. But if it is a college textbook then I need a physical copy to touch and feel also because pages don't get 'messed' up when you have the physical copy (ie: a professor references a books page number, but in the Ebook that same page is a different number).

I like real books, I like holding the book in my hand and actually turning the page.  Yes that's my argument, I like paper books more because they have "more Character".

Physical books by far! The simplicity of physical books provide me with a sort of comfort that an Ebook reader just can't provide.

Firstly, Reading a book is usually something I do to get away from staring at a screen. I also don't like how you have to give up the more subtle parts of reading. If these guys can somehow emulate consistent 100% lag-free page turns, paper-like textures and the old-book smell (especially this), I would be a little more interested.

There are also licensing issues on books sold using electronic devices as to whether books you buy are truly yours or if you simply bought the temporary privilage to read it on your device. With a physical copy, you avoid this problem, a physical book really is yours unless you borrowed it from the library and no one (except maybe the government) can take it away from you at a whim.

The only advantage I can think of is that you can carry multiple books with you, but I still would rather carry my massive book on the complete works of William Shakespeare with me instead of an ebook reader.

Don't get me wrong I'm fine with reading from an ereader, but there is a certain charm from a real book that you just don't get from an ebook. Sure, they take up space and especially if it's a textbook it will be heavy and large as hell but the fact that I'm actually flipping the pages is just something that ebooks don't offer.

Now really it all depends on what type of book you are reading. If I'm reading a standard novel I'd be down with a digital copy but if I'm reading a friggin' comic book give me the hardcopy, please.

I think I kind of have eye problems, that is why I wear glasses.. I guess I prefer regular books. E-books kind of get on my nerves because usually, everything I use is electronic and I usually need off-screen time. I hate to admit it, but I think I might be addicted to electronics. Besides, regular books give the old feel to it and I kind of prefer it.

It's a hard choice, really. I read very often, and most of the things I read are documentations. This is why I read e-books most of the time. I can hardly get, for example, a documentation book for a Python Twisted in real life, and the e-book seems more up-to-date right?

Actual books can be read anytime, anywhere, as long as you carry it. I can read it under a tree for hours without worrying about power source. E-books need you to open your machine, plug it somewhere, and read it. Not to mention the urge to play games while you're on a computer.

E-books: easy to get, cheap (usually free), need a machine and power source.

Actual books: the distribution really depends on publishers, usually expensive, can be read anywhere and anytime, don't need power source, look cooler.

Since my main study makes it hard to go with actual books, I will vote for e-books.

I don't have anything against ebooks. They're slightly cheaper and more portable in a lot of cases, but I just like physical books better. It might be what I grew up with, or maybe it has to do with  my love of bookstores and libraries, but I just love having physical copies to try and stuff on my tiny bookshelf. :P

I would much rather read a regular book. There is just something about holding it and flipping the pages that gets to me. Then there is nothing better than finishing the story and closing the book to see the cover and remember everything that just happens to the characters in it. I never got that feel from reading E-Books. Besides I love collecting whole series of books and keeping them in order in case I wont to read them again. And with E-Books, you can't really show off your collection now can you.

A bunch of paperback and hard-cover books looks a lot more appealing on my bookshelf self than a single E-book would. The only plus side I could see to getting an E-Book would be that you can quickly download titles which are always available instead of going to the book store and finding out the one you want is sold out. That happened to me yesterday.

I'm gonna have to say real books on this on. Here are the many reasons:

1. I lovw the feel of the paper and of the cover!

2. Books smell awesome, especially new books! :D

3. I hate the glassy, cold feeling of the Ebooks. I hate it. >_>

I just love regular books! So awesome and fun to read!

As interesting as E-books are in terms of organization, I prefer regular books.

Why? Because of technology, most seem to be replaced in an advancement to make it easier, but it also makes people lazy in my opinion if you have to rely on technology that often.

Besides, if EVERYONE had an E-Book, books would be extinct, and libraries would be non existent.

In conclusion, I say it's better to have it regular and classic of a book, then something not to exciting in my opinion.

Regular books, any day. I don't even really read e-books that much, and I love picking up real books and turning their pages. It's almost sad that e-books seem to be becoming more and more popular.

Because they're cheaper and easier to find than regular books. Of course, most people including me like regular books more, but some people just don't have so much money and book distribution in their area isn't reliable.

  • 2 weeks later...

It's really important to read real books for the sake of tradition. You can read longer, too, and It's healthier for the eyes. Once I tried reading an e-book, and the pages were really big and I was like: "I'm gonna finish this soon." and when I looked how much pages it had? F*king 1024 giant pages with tiny letters! So I decided I would search for a real one.

I like the experience of reading real books much better, turning the pages and feeling the texture of the book is so much better than tapping a screen.

However, I like the convenience of reading on a tablet much better. You are able to carry multiple books around with you without having to worry about space. I don't have a problem reading from tablets because I spend so much time in front of a screen anyways.

Honestly, I couldn't really tell you which one I like more. Both have their advantages and disadvantages.

E-books. I don't see why it's so important for tradition's sake that we stay reading old fashioned books. I much prefer reading on my laptop as it's much more convenient for me. Also, they don't take up any room and I can read stuff that you wouldn't find in book form (e.g. fanfics).

Also, I just find it more comfortable. When I start to read a book, I'll read for hours and hours. With my laptop, I can read the screen comfortably and all I have to do is scroll down to turn the page. With real books, I can't seem to get comfortable and will have to keep figiting or adjust the way I'm sitting.

Also, I don't really care for the smell of books.
