I was arguing with four of my friends yesterday about our favorite classes in high school. After deciding American History is best history, we started arguing about science.

Anyways, I know everyone hates science and that science is stupid. But I'm a bio major atm and I have to think about this all the time. My personal favorite was astrophysics, followed by physics. HPA was okay.

I know, maybe I should have majored in physics. Still have time to switch.

While I'm at it, I'll just include best math class. I hate math, but I figure why not. Unfortunately, my school only offered up to Calc 3 so I had to waste a year with AP Stats, which was full of stoners. Not pleasant.

Algebra 2 was my favorite, because my teacher was a boss.

TL;DR

Vote for your favorite

So far, my favorite high school science class is Advanced Physics, and my favorite high school math class is Pre-Calculus. I'm going into 11th grade next month, and I'll be taking Regular Chemistry, AP Calculus AB, and AP Statistics for my math and science classes. I'm not sure whether or not I'll enjoy chemistry class more than physics class, but I know I'll enjoy AP Calculus AB more than any other math class I have taken so far.

Chem was a good class, I enjoyed it. I took Calc BC, and my teacher was a jerk, so I didn't enjoy it. The material is pretty interesting. You're lucky, my school had to cut AP physics so I took Astro instead. Just watch out; if your high school has it, Calc 3 is a pain.

I'm glad you enjoyed Chemistry.

At my school there are only two calculus classes: AP Calculus AB, and AP Calculus BC. They require us to take AB before BC, so I plan to take BC in 12th grade. I love mathematics, though. In fact, I plan to major in it. So, for me, these classes are things to look forward to. :P

I really hate science class. I've disliked every science teacher since the 7th grade. My 9th grade one was cool. Her class at least made sense. Last year my teacher wasn't so bad either. The classes though, my god. I've never been a science person. Never. I don't care about rocks. I don't care about stoichiometry. I also don't care about leaves. I usually just barely grind past science class with a D. Unfortunately for me, I just barely failed the first semester last year(I needed 60% to pass, I had like 58 or 59%). I have to take science for the first half of the year.  :(

I have a sleep disorder, and I find that being bored seriously doesn't help me stay awake in class. Science is the most boring class ever. In my opinion, anyways. I seriously dislike Science classes though

I absolutely loved Biology because it was literally the only one I understood and find relevant to myself in any way. I passed Physics and Chemistry with a high grade but I didn't understand anything, I just learned answers. I disliked Physics and Chemistry because there was a lot of Maths involved and I absolutely hated maths (again, I still passed with a high grade) in every single way.

My favorite subject in Maths? I voted other, my other means nothing. Nothing is good about Maths (for me, atleast) and I despise it.

Astronomy is my favorite by far. Chemistry never really interested me, and geology can be bland, in my opinion. Biology is full of triggers for my phobia.

Physics is a close second; I only really like theoretical physics and not mechanical physics.

I've never been a fan of science class. I pretty much lost all interest by seventh grade. Environmental Science was probably the only science I can say I actually enjoyed taking. The teacher really helped make it awesome.

Calculus AB all the way for math class. It made sense and wasn't terribly difficult. It actually ended up being one of my favorite senior classes. Algebra 2 was the easiest, but it left me woefully unprepared for Pre-Calc (which was the worst). Also statistics isn't a math.

Edit: Oh wow, CompSci is up there now. This changes everything. =P AP Computer Science was a really fun class, definitely better than any of the natural sciences for me.

My school didn't seem to really have any botany/zoology courses (or i just didn't take them) but i think that's more what i liked about science. I always took biology and i loved learning about organisms and stuff, but i didn't like learning about them on the microscopic level. The animal as a whole is more interesting than its endoplasmic reticulum, imo. My favorite part of biology was when we looked at pond water under microscopes to watch microscopic organisims swimming around and eating each other. No kidding, there were two of them fighting under the microscope and one got eaten. It was fascinating! Its too bad i never did manage to find a Water Bear :(

Also i hate math with a passion. Therefore i chose the easiest and most interesting one for me, Geometry. Shapes are fun :D

I enjoyed taking bio last year, I really like my teacher and I found his class to be a lot of fun. However, I HATE math. I can't understand it for Jack unless I study it for like a week REALLY hard. I failed Algebra I in 8th grade and barely passed it on 9th. I passed Algebra I with a low D, and now I have to take Geometry next year, FML. I'd do anything to never take a math class ever again...

My favorite science classes were the days we had this particular substitute come in and we'd make what's known as flaming mombas using 2 litre pop bottles, natural gas from the science lab, soapy water, a metre stick with a lit match on the end, some rubber tubing and a rubber stopper and yeah xD the gas would make the soapy water form thick, dense columns of bubbles that could go as high as the ceiling and we'd take the lit match, stick it into the foam and you'd get this big 'WOOSH!" of a fire ball xD it never set the ceiling on fire or anything but the pop bottle was the casualty so we had to blow it out quite a bit x3 man those were fun classes~~

Asking for a favorite branch of science is asking for your favorite of your kids. It seems unfair to do that.

Personally though, I'm most interested in Biology. I actually plan on going into medicine, in large part due to how fascinating I find the topic. Although I'm also big into Astronomy and Physics.

...Math though, is something else entirely. If I can avoid having to do math, I most likely will. Never found that bit too terribly interesting.

Indeed.

Biology was definitely my favorite, plus it was the easiest for me too lol. I didn't like chemistry very much, but physics was okay, except my teacher was completely incapable of teaching, all he did was fuck around.

Well, I just finished sophomore year a few months ago, and so far my favorite math has been Algebra 2 advanced and my favorite science has been Advanced Biology. I do hope both those change though, as I am taking AP Physics and AP calc BC in the Fall.

Oh, and if computer science counted as a science class, then c++ would be my favorite.

I'm only a little bit into my high school career, but I'm going to say astrophysics/astronomy, even if I haven't taken it and my school fails to offer it. (I guess it's covered in Earth/Space Science in Year Twelve?) I also am fond of Bio and Physics. I HATE CHEMISTRY. I'm really bad at it.

Maths? I haven't taken half of them in school, LOL. So I just said Algebra 2. *laughs*

Your high school had astrophysics? You lucky bastard...

Anyway, my favorite science class in high school was Bio, although I prefer Physics (especially astrophysics) and Chemistry. However, the physics teacher was senile but refused to retire, and couldn't be let go because he had tenure. It was sad, but his mind was going and he was a very ineffective teacher. I don't know this first hand, since I avoided his class for this very reason, but I had friends who took his class and were sorry they did. My chem class was full of idiots, so that was no good. And it was mostly the boring parts of chemistry, endless stoichiometry and whatnot. No cool reactions or the science behind them, just stoichiometry. Most of our lab sessions were stuff I'd already done, either in other classes or on my own.

That being said, the teacher was really awesome and had all sorts of stories and jokes and stuff that she told while we were bored doing our work :)

I read some of the replies so I added environmental science and computer science to the list. While I'm at it I'll just reply to some things because bored.

I guess scientists make bad parents lol.

 Also statistics isn't a math.

Truest thing I've read all day. I hated that class with a passion. At least my teacher was cool.

my teacher was completely incapable of teaching, all he did was fuck around.

My teacher could do both because he was a badass. He helped us vandalize pennies with magnifying glasses. I had him for astro as well. But I hate when an awful teacher ruins an interesting class. Happened for precalc, Calc BC and Calc 3.

Your high school had astrophysics? You lucky bastard...

I always thought I was unlucky because they had to cut AP Bio and AP physics AND AP computer science AB and they didn't offer anything after Calc 3 so I had to take the joke that is AP Stats. Maybe I am pretty lucky, astro was a sweet class. But I know how you feel, my Spanish IV teacher could hardly speak English, let alone teach. I had to ask my Mexican friends to teach me instead. My Precalc and Calc 3 teacher just spent the entire day on the computer, never actually taught. Apparently we were supposed to teach ourselves.

I have to ask a question. Back at my high school, Earth Science was a joke class that only stoners and people who planned on dropping out took. Zoology and AP Stats had a similar reputation. I was wondering if any classes at your schools had a reputation like that. I know first hand it's true for Stats.

My favorite science class was physics because we had a really good teacher. That teacher was too much fun and yet we still learned physics along the way. I actually like most of the sciences; it used to be my favorite subject in highschool... until I took chemistry. Chemistry changed everything -- that class was a nightmare and I think she passed most of us out of pity.

Don't have much of an opinion on math. I was pretty good at math but it definitely wasn't my favorite subject. All my math classes were pretty normal and I can't actually remember the different things you learn in the different maths for the most part. It all just blurs together, from addition and subtraction all the way up to derivatives and integrals.

  • 1 year later...

I LOVE Enviromental Science. My class learns so much about the environment by doing fun labs and going on field trips. The teacher is also really funny and so is the class which makes the course itself ten times better.

I took Algebra I my freshman year. I liked how easy and simple the class was compared to the other classes I took. I took math all four years of highschool and Algebra is the only math class I like (I'm not a math person).

My favorite math Class was my first Calculus class. Many interesting concepts and I like the teacher and some of the other students.

For science, my favorite would be Chemistry, even though my overall grade was ok. The teacher was really cool, and the other students were alright, plus the concepts were very interesting.

I took biology and zoology in high school. *yawn* My most interesting science class by far was at university - It was called Plants and People, and it went over botany in quite a bit of detail (which is actually interesting to me? Or I found out it was anyway!) and then how people have used plants since the beginning of civilization.

I learned sooo much, and then for my class project I got to pick my subject and can anyone guess what I picked? God, I seriously can't believe it took me even more than one second to come up with this subject! The woods (trees/plants) used in woodwind instruments. It was like the best subject for me to ever get to write on ever! I learned that the tree that they take the wood from to make my main instrument (bassoon) is growing in my own backyard.

Somehow I felt like I should have known that beforehand... Lol. BUT the professor really enjoyed the presentation, because it wasn't the usual reports on beer that he is so used to getting (and we had plenty of those lol). In fact I was the only one who has ever written on that subject. =(

Okay, that went way off-topic... If it was ever on-topic to begin with... xD I'm sorry, but you said everyone hates science - I don't! At least as long as it's not mathy science. Because math is a stupid horrible awful subject that I can never be good at no matter how hard I try... But sciences that have nothing to do with math (or dissections... >.<) are amazing!
