How do you deal with the blues?

Jack Spades

Recommended Posts

We've all had those times. When we feel at the end of our rope, bottom of our hole, out of hope. We all have different ways of dealing with the sadness that finds its way into our hearts, minds, and souls.

What are your ways of dealing with the blues? Watching T.V? Listening to music? Laying in bed while staring at the ceiling?

I've got a few methods. Music generally helps. Additive Subtractive especially is very good at making me feel happy, specifically the songs "Love and Friendship" and "Phony Brony" (both of which feature Rina-chan for added awesomeness.) The Living Tombstone's remix of "Summer" by Griffin Village (Jackleapp) has a similar effect. Or Odyssey Eurobeat's remix of "Clarity" by Zedd. Or sometimes I just message my friends. A certain game, Okami, is also very good at making me feel at peace. If I'm really upset about something, I just turn it on and run around Shinshu Field for a while.

Laying in bed while looking up at the ceiling and listening to the sound of rain, whether actually raining or from this site:

Adding classical music or just piano or violin instrumentals adds to the calming effect.

I usually just lay there and let thousands of thoughts race through my mind.

Watching My little pony is one, being on the forum, lifting weights, listening to music.. Going for a drive, sometimes I just don't do anything. There are some times I just don't deal with the blues. Ponies usually do the trick though, but driving also gets rid of the blues. I guess just doing fun things in general, although sometimes having the blues prevents me from wanting to do fun stuff. So sometimes I just literally don't do anything.

I do the stuff I normally enjoy doing, even if it's not particularly fun at that moment. For me, that would be something like playing a fighting game (sticking to training mode usually) while listening to some music -- the music usually being something fast paced or really boastful. Sometimes I watch some comedy or some slice of life anime. In essence, I'm doing the same things I normally do, I'm just depressed while doing so.

Personally I sing. Shoot, sometimes I sing so much that I get a little horse. mmmhh...okay, with that pun out of the way. Here's actually a song that I do enjoy singing that this thread reminds me of.

I think distraction is the key.

Whenever I feel down, I just do what I like doing to take my mind off of things, be that playing a game, playing an instrument, watching a film, singing, listening to music, hang out with friends (when they're not being lazy and staying in), talking to someone new (as rare as that happens).

I remember when I got dumped years ago, I just played Team Fortress 2 for a straight 2 weeks :P

I will listen to classical music, eat my favorite ice cream (mint chocolate chip), make myself one of my favorite dishes (curry beef w/ onions on a bed of white rice), read a good book, play a favorite video game, and of course, watch MLP.  Not all at the same time, but you get the idea. :squee:

While it may be difficult to do at times; when feeling a little under the weather I do my best to try and surround myself with the things I enjoy most.  Primarily my friends, music, and perhaps a book.  If the weight of a to-do list is bearing down on me, or issues are piling up, I can sometimes muster up enough motivation to just get out and accomplish them for then I'm left with nothing to worry about.  It is easier said than done at times though.

At the moment, a book and some rain outside pattering against the windows sounds quite decent to me.

I do what I always do: sit in front of my computer. And when I say "do what I always do," I don't mean every time I become sad; I mean the thing I'm doing all day, every day.

I like to sit in my shower, cover my ears, and let the water beat on the top and back of my head. It makes such a peaceful sound, and it feels so great to stop thinking for a while.

The world moves so fast, I think it's nice to just hear one thing, and not have to think about what that one thing is.

After that I would usually take a nap, though I'd probably be in a better mood anyways.

A BAD alternative (for me at least) is videogames. Sure they are fun, my passion, and all of that stuff, but I play games that involve RNG and progression. Having a bad day, then breaking an item when enhancing it is no fun. Getting beat down by the current OP class is no fun. Losing rather than making profit is no fun.

i generally try to do pony related stuff. whether it's watching episodes, listening to fan music, thinking about ponies, or even just simply looking at ponies. i have 2 plushies. every so often, when i'm in a real deep funk, i sometimes just pick one of em up and hold it. it usually brings at least a smirk to my face.

I keep moving forward. I do my job as usual. I smile at people when I walk by them. I'll do small talk with them as necessary. I tell them jokes and laugh along with them. I'll try to keep myself busy, get myself some new hobbies. Keep my mind off the thing that made me sad. Maybe, if I keep pretending that I'm happy, I'll be actually happy.

I want to just lie down here and die, but I can't

I tend to withdraw from most everything and everyone, though chatting with friends on Skype can be very helpful too at times. A lot of the time I end up listening to music while reading fluffy fanfiction ^_^ .

I go to a quiet place, usually my bedroom and listen to my favourite classical and instrumental pieces. When that doesn't work, my next retreat is to take a short nap. Naps are the solution to many of life's problems. I used to hate them as a kid, but I've realized how helpful they actually can be.

Well, everyone has a different way to get out of the blue. If they are athletic, they go for a jog. If they are artistic, they may paint a picture. If they a musical, they may play music.

When I'm feeling blue, I try to go for a jog or draw a picture.

In other words, Do something you enjoy! :D

  • 1 month later...

I drink a lot and smoke a lot of pot, then I cry... a lot and get over it. Sure it sucks but at the end of the day I do feel better after all that, I do love the crying part.. because it helps me out a lot

Unfortunately I can't deal with it, I have rather serious depression. Not the kind of thing I can just 'get over' really, my issues will need counseling to see any real improvement, I'm certainly not able to do anything about it alone.

There's no specific thing that ever gets me out of a depressive episode, they just seem to end on their own. Unfortunately it always happens again, without fail, and I haven't really been happy for a long time.

If I'm really, really sad, (which doesn't happen that often) I'll write about it. Usually poems and that kind of thing. Sometimes I wish I'd get sad more often, because the poems I produce from that are actually really great. :P

But, if I'm just a little down, I'll listen to some upbeat music. When I was younger, I always listened to Party in the USA by Miley Cyrus. :3
